This is interesting because yesterday I was talking to a friend who just bought an Xbox. She was asking for some help, as she’s never owned one. During setup, it asked if she’d like to link her Xbox account with Steam. I’d never seen or even heard of that before. I think this is something that might be closer than we think. 🤷🏼‍♂️

you've been able to link with steam for a long time. They use it for games like Halo MCC and Infinite, Forza Horizon 4 and 5, Motorsport, and anything else that's cross platform to synchronize you progress

If they just made an xbox that was a full-fledged PC so it could serve as both your PC and console, and make a laptop version, it would be the one computer that every college kid wants and needs. It would be able to play all xbox games, all PC games, and all PS games that have PC versions.

That’s a pipe dream, because then there’s no way Xbox remain cheap. Consoles cost ~$500, so that you buy into the ecosystem.

@@re6_vlogz There's no such thing as a $700 gaming PC and there never will be, as long as there's inflation. Again, consoles are sold at a loss, that's why a similar gaming PC, let alone laptop, will always be much more expensive.

Maybe that’s why Phil Spencer did that computer keyboard shortcut update for Xbox controllers that allows you to set computer keyboard shortcuts by hitting a certain amount of buttons programmed on your Xbox controller, he said it was for some computer games they were planning to bring over, but maybe he knew that they were planning to bring steam to the Xbox console, that would be great !

No testing for plain PC games on your Xbox has been going on for a while now. I’ve actually talked about this before a long time ago and there is quite a few testers. Can’t say more than that though.

Ah, now I can run those performance-heavy games in my Steam library without needing a gaming rig.

If Xbox went that way I'd definetly want a piece of that. They'd be selling best price to performance ratio PC, leading many studios to optimize with that hardware in mind, meaning you would get the most ironed out version since it is for a specific hardware (theoretically). Though I bet they are going to limit the acquisition of such version to happen on their services but it doesn't matter much, since you can choose to go steam and run it anyways or take that Xbox version and run it on a PC if you already have one or switch later. However, they have to really work on the system. Many of those who have chosen Xbox so far is because you just turn the thing on and play, no driver, compatibility or intermediate windows nonsense. This has to continue.

Xbox would be the supreme system with the Steam store on it. The options would be limitless as far as the games. I would love it.

​@trancepilot5962 thats wrong. They would make more money by doing so. Steam doesnt care on what you are buying their games from. A small fee from Microsoft wont make them lose money. It will bring in more than before. Also porting games to xbox is not as hard as to playstation. Xbox runs on a modified version of windows 10 already.

For me personally, there are some games I just like to have on my Xbox account, and there are some I will buy on Steam. It depends on the type of game, really. I mean, there are even games I will buy on both ecosystems. So, having Steam available on an Xbox console would just give me another place to play ALL my games. I would still buy games through Xbox and Steam accordingly.

@@kylespevak6781, accessing achievements on Xbox or Steam, mods for some games on Steam. I don't claim to know how it would work, so maybe mods wouldn't be available on a console version of Steam, but who knows. But like I said, having Steam access on the Xbox console would just give me another option of accessing all my games on one system. I still play Steam games and Xbox games on my PC. To me this would be no different. Just a cheaper version of the PC with an Xbox dashboard front-end.

Honestly I'd be down with a xbox brand pc. Or a custom xbox OS. That's essentially hyper proformence versions of windows. Kinda like steam os. A os that can put in console mode (big picture mode) or pc mode.

@@lutzb.606 Well yeah, you are right! They've been PCs for quite awhile now.... in fact many people use them that way ever since PS4-XboxOne days. Why shouldn't the producers, MS and Sony treat them that way? They would certainly make more money (and they are businesses after all, you know "to make a profit"). Actually I remember people using PS3's like PCs, after they were jailbroken, and of course, Sony threw a fit.... how dare people use THEIR property as a PC? Yes, Sony is a big company, but please note, they have been a big company for awhile, but they never grew much... where the likes of Apple, Google, and Microsoft grew to be much bigger in a shorter time frame. Consoles are just PCs under a pretty slick GUI.

Sweet i have nearly 3k games on Steam and it'd be awesome to kick back and play some games on xbox especially when traveling.

It baffles me that people don’t understand what PC in IT-terms means, it litteraly means personal computer. It’s an umbrella term for computers, which are personal. Your phone, your console, your laptop, your stationary computer, are in fact a PC. It looks like a reverse tree, at the top is Personal Computer, then under are the different types of Personal Computers, niches you can say.

Now that Xbox one/series consoles allow keyboard and mouse you should be able to connect a 360 controller for windows wireless adaptor to experience the original peripheral

For sure would commit to a solid single platform. If you really think about it people are always looking for a deal or a code they can use to get a discounted ultimate or Ps Plus. Mostly because they have both consoles and don't want to pay full cost for the upgrade per year to play online with friends or game libraries. If this were to happen I would pay full price Plus game price if it were part of my library.

So finally time to a keyboard/mouse combo for my X. Not upset by that.

Just put a cheap version of windows on the X-Box and add keyboard and mouse support as an option in game. Make it a game box cheap PC. but make it upgradeable. As it you can turn it in to a real PC with all the functionality. Maybe what we know as Xbox will just become a series of cheap gaming components to build a cheap mid end PC that meets a minimum set of gaming standards that can be updated to premium 3rd party PC components. They aren't that far off now.

Considering you have been able to make a better preforming PC than console you can get at a set price for a few years now, Xbox should focus on PCs instead of consoles. Or make their consols able to register wireless keyboards and mouses (bluetooth) as remotes, and maybe add some browsers or whatever. Heck, Microsoft owns windows and xbox so why havent they done that yet?

xbox has never abandoned arm because they never built an arm based console, they’ve always been x86 based. so they’ve always been sort of like pcs just optimized for gaming and all

Steam coming to Xbox would actually make perfect sense because with the direction the Xbox is going Xbox might in future no longer be like games console but become like a pre-built gaming PC in the box like you get your brand-new Xbox whatever it’s gonna be called you turn on and it’s the Windows machine. It is affectively a PC a gaming PC pre built, including a Controller. Well, historically, the way the Xbox game consoles have been built. They’ve always been built with some PC components they’ve effectively just been gaming PCs in console clothing. Newer Xbox consoles have been continuously getting more and more PC like. And I wouldn’t be surprised with this concept of Microsoft putting some of their Xbox exclusives onto other platforms would no longer matter if they also bring those other platforms like steam onto Xbox and it’s also down to the fact you can get Xbox game pass on PC you can use Xbox Controllers on PC flawlessly. So the idea of the next Xbox is basically a pre-built gaming PC with Xbox game pass just preinstalled onto it and you can just get steam on it and bring everything that steam has to offer on Xbox. I would get that I would 100% get that. So it could be a PC on the inside but on the outside it looks like a console exactly what you would expect. It looks like a consul. I feel like a console at functions as a gaming console but ultimately is a gaming PC and you can take the case and do your PC upgrades whatever do you want it’s your PC That would be cool. That would be really cool.

I’d love for Microsoft to just fix their current store on consoles and web. The storefront on mobile and desktop searches and loads so slowly and isn’t intuitive. Important info is left off on games information page on both devices and consoles.

I can tell you 3 Walmarts in Colorado 72nd and Sheridan 90th a bad Sheridan some other wall marts there are no Xbox games when they used to have a massive display of games

Sony shapes on buttons confusing. Nintendo backwards button layout also confused people. I remember both what Nintendo & Sega attempt to do with controllers before awkward shaped buttons that wasn't even standard when they first switched to discs. Remember 007, dual thumb sticks is standard for a reason in modern gaming. Imagine elite paddles, even creative functions to practically console tuned designed controls.

I also see Xbox games everywhere physically so I don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon tbh and I’ve seen stores actively restocking physical games like starfield so they are definitely selling

So the Nvidia Shield? I own an Nvidia Shield TV and that allows me to play PC Games on my TV using their Virtual Machines.. sure the free version of their membership has a timed experience but playing $100 every 6 months gives you your own machine more or less, bo queue and no time limit... I can play on any TV.. it's not a console but doesn't need to be... Since adding the Xbox Portal and the Play Station Play portals as Games allows me to play Xbox and Playstation streamed from my PC.. It works I feel like if Nvidia dropped onto the console scene using Nvidia Shield as the base.. it could work well..

Steam Machine failed because it was produced long before Valve unveiled Proton, so it was Limited to native Linux ports and at the time that wasnt a huge thing, it would be diffrent now as we have Proton so a lot of Windows games can be played under Linux now.

Rumor has it once Xbox will be supported by ps5 and rumored ps5 pro mid gen. The software that xbox runs its already based on a version of the windows 10 with directx support etc. Thats why games are easier to port from PC to xbox than from pc to ps5

(thinking out loud) If I were Microsoft I would make a quality hand held. I like what I have heard about the upcoming controllers. I would double down on that- (push them to PC users). Then I would work on an ecosystem around the Plug and Play PC-XBox Wouldn't it be cool, if different models were offered. A base line, with R5 or i5 with graphical power of a 60 series card from Nvidia (ie. RTX4060) A model up might be a Super Sport, with the equivalent of an R7-i7 CPU with Higher rated Video Card Off Topic thought- I wonder if they will use Video cards, and if they did, is it going top be Proprietary? I could see MS getting all bent out of shape if people start swapping out hardware. (or if an XBox prebuilt will become better known as a source, to harvest parts from. Remember Video cards and 2020?)

I see no point in currently buying an xbox. I have ZERO benefits I can think of to choose it over a PC, Switch, or PS5... if they add FULL Steam support I will go out and buy the newest xbox same day no questions asked

tbh, all those steam on Xbox stuffs, I think it's about the Xbox Handheld, which runs Windows. Those aren't about the Xbox Console, which runs Xbox version of Windows Core.
