Old Steam was notoriously horrible though. Was buggy as hell, and the Friends List did not work for literally years. There is an infamous Steam gif floating around that many people will remember from that time period...Also, this is not the oldest version the OG interface was uglier believe it or not. Pure sewage green. If you search hard enough you can find videos of it. I linked the title for a vid displaying it in a previous comment but I think the AI flagged it for some reason.

I never saw a steam UI that old. First I used was the far simpler looking olive drab UI. Weirdly that older UI looks a lot closer to steam's modern interface in a lot of ways. Rounded corners, gradients, no real borders on various controls other than a few.

@@HerZeL3iDza Time only goes fast if you don't find a reason to remember every moment. The less time you waste, the more time you'll remember, the longer the years will be. There were a few years in my very late teens to early 20s that absolutely flew by, because I was doing nothing, came out of high school, got into uni, dropped out cause I realised I had no idea what I actually wanted to do, spent every day playing the same video games with the same friends working the same boring dead end entry level job. Then I started travelling and time slowed down, months felt like years and weeks felt like months cause I was constantly doing something new every day. Then I got married and my partner helped me realise what I wanted to really do with my life and I found a career that I love, where I do something new and something that very few people get to do, every single day, I get to help people that no one else wants to help, excitement happens all the time and I routinely experience the thrill of rushing, often blindly, into situations where my help is needed, I go to work and have no idea what's gonna happen or what the day will be like. Now time feels even more slow, in good way, and I remember all my days fondly, even the bad days are at least good stories once they're done. You just gotta find what you wanna do with your life and always be learning and experiencing new things. Don't let your life become boring, it's a sure way to wake up on your death bed one day wondering "where'd all the time go? What did I even do with it all?".

The fact that the steam UI looks so old yet extremely nostalgic for some people that probably were born in like the earliest generation of zoomers before gaming was this popular makes this video a huge piece of evidence and a historical source on what steam really looked like back then. I'm really surprised in how it turned from greyish darkish lime to basically just a shade of normal and dark blue. Steam ages hard.

this video gave me so much nostalgia man. I remember back in the day using my father laptop to play CSS on winodws xp and it was so laggy because the laptop only has 512 mb of ram and powered with intel pentium 4 only no GPU i got like 10-15 fps, and for me at that time i find Source Engine has the most realistic graphics in gaming haha.
