Steal My Camera? We Have Drama! LS22EWT

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Occasionally, when TPS (Traffic processing services) at Marlowe House see other police involved they just drop and refuse to prosecute. I did ask them to get back to me and confirm whether they were going to prosecute this but didn't hear back, and it appears that they didn't. I'm quite disappointed in that, as I feel he should've been prosecuted.
The Royal Parks Police, by contrast, were awesome and very helpful here.

I’m starting to think this goes beyond just phone driving and drivers acknowledging the law, but rather CM is unintentionally bringing light to us a bigger problem with our society and culture: our unhealthy addiction to looking at our phone screens. @@TheGreenhillsCyclistOf course he did. CyclingMikey said he was going to report him. Took his licence plate number. Has video. Clearly the driver feels there is a serious threat to his licence: 7:56 "He's trying to do me over & my licence." 5:20 "I'm shitting myself" The fear explains his behaviour = pleading, turning round, going back, etc Cylcling mike kept saying he was going to "review the footage & think about it" but he is hyperfocused on fighting crime & patrols back & forth for hours harassing drivers & writes 15 complaints a day to the police. Therefore obviously he meant "i will report you to the police tonight"

    @@alwaysdisputin9930 The cab driver knowingly undertook an unlawful and unsafe act on the public highway. Filming this unlawful and unsafe act thence stating his probable intent to report it to the Police does not constitute harassment by Cycling Mikey (as defined by the Protection from Harassment Act 1997). The cab driver might well have been fearful of the ramifications from the reporting of his unlawful and dangerous act. However, this cannot justify his decision to act inappropriately towards Cycling Mikey. Ultimately, it was the cab driver who chose to undertake the unlawful and unsafe act (whilst driving for his profession).

    Stopping and telling the driver of the vehicle who has used the phone that they are going to be reported to the police and get 6 points and a fine can only end up very bad one day for Mike. There are plenty of aggressive people out there with weapons they are not scared to use. Just do the capture video and not goad the person who offended. Being cynical if Mike didn't generate and record an interaction it wouldn't get the KZread views.

  • @CyclingMikey

    @CyclingMikey

    3 ай бұрын

    Stationary phone drivers are still dangerous for many reasons: 1) The people using their phones when stationary are often the same people using them when moving. Being caught whilst stationary is a co-incidence, not a defence. It's easier for me to catch them when stopped, but so many were also seen using their phones when moving. 2) They are entirely unaware of people crossing the road around them. See here where a phone driver almost hits someone in the queue twitter.com/phonekills/status/1491526464520560641?s=20 See this other tweet where a 5 year old child is almost hit by a phone driver who was stationary: x.com/cmdkenyon/status/1724483042046067052?s=20 3) They are entirely unaware of filtering cyclists and motorcyclists, despite the Highway Code requiring us to be aware of this. 4) Phone distraction lasts for a good time after you put the phone away. Even if you're only using the phone in each traffic queue at each junction (which is highly unlikely), then you're constantly topping up your mental distraction and are basically as disabled as a drunk driver. 5) Phone driving is worse than drink driving for distraction rates, and that's why it's part of the #Fatal4 behaviours that police target heavily. 6) Here's a police officer telling you that he has been on the scene for 3 fatal RTCs involving drivers who were stationary whilst using their phones, and then moved off and caused a collision: twitter.com/markandcharlie/status/1604073330751197184?s=20&t=uj8sgu7spu4cTyDqqqds2g 7) Policing phone drivers will help them stop other traffic offences too - it's vanishingly rare that someone only breaks a single traffic law like mobile phone use. 8) Parliament recently chose to strengthen the mobile phone law around stationary phone use because it's dangerous and the science supports this. I'm really not interested in this nonsense of "it's not dangerous when stationary, because it clearly is and it's clearly still very appropriate to catch these drivers.

    @drama772 'Uncle', in this case, references a person that is mindful & concerned for other people's welfare. It is also a title of respect. A favourite uncle is one that acts as a mentor, expanding the range of experiences available in life, that teaches a young family member their own skills. For example, how to fish, mechanics, magic tricks, whatever. Reducing your worldview to sexual innuendo is the habit of some inexperienced, frustrated young teens.

    It annoys me when they say “I was in slow traffic, doing 1mph”. So if that is ok, is 2mph? 3mph? There can’t be a minimum speed for this, because then they’ll just keep arguing that a bit extra is ok.

    the distraction lasts well into when you speed up to the limit anyway so it's not a valid excuse. Plus 2 tonnes running you over at 2 or 30mph still hurts.

    Did you raise it with it TFL? That driver shouldn't be responsible for the safety of passenger. Given that he quite clearly said he was going to rob you of your Gopro and assaulted you in the process of the attempted theft I would have highlighted the incident to the police. And the statute of limitations is 3 years so still plenty of time.

    Didn't want to lose his license but decided that adding assault and theft/attempted theft into the mix would somehow improve things.... Nice to see Jeremy Vine waving at you at the beginning :) Someone should probably tell him what happened after if he doesn't know already. He should have his licenses at least temporarily suspended as punishment for this unacceptable behavior. Hope you do manage to escalate this.

    IMO this uploader is a con man: 1) gather evidence of minor lawbreaking e.g. driving briefly on the pavement 2) inform the victim that he's got dirt on them & try to make them feel that they are going to lose their licence & job 3) then bait them into trying to steal the evidence 4) then put the video on YT for clicks & ad revenue (thus humiliating & stirring hatred) 5) possibly also demands money & sexual favours

    Taxis should not be treated as if they are somehow far superior to cars. Sure, they can carry a few more people and do not need to be parked, but they still generate a lot of traffic due to their poor space efficiency and pollute a lot too. Even electric taxis still pollute with particles from brake-pads and wheels. Trains, trams, bikes and buses are the future of urban mobility.

    Mikey, I really appreciate what you do, but as soon as you agreed to stop and chat to the taxi driver I thought that was a big mistake (as it unfortunately turned out to be). The taxi driver committed attempted robbery (as well as the driving offence). If the taxi driver wasn’t at least prosecuted for the driving offence then that is absolutely outrageous and in your position I would also make a formal complaint to the police and TFl. I wouldn’t trust getting in his taxi as he unhinged☹
