Steakhouse Rules, Explained
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Steakhouses are not like other restaurants: they're more like clubs with their own rules and conventions. Don't be caught breaking any of these rules when dining at one.

Dude at editorial meeting that morning, "I'm gonna eat a hundred fifty dollar lunch all by myself, and be able to expense it!"

do it everyday...and see how you feel....lol.
so wait let me make sure I get it 1. don't dress like a slob 2. order what you want 3. don't order a bunch of add on crap just because the lady offers it 4. enjoy what you ordered seems unorthodox but I guess I can try it
So pretty much, you walk in not looking like a homeless person, order what you want, the way you want it, and refuse what you don't want... Man, how have I been alive for this long?
Is it just me or did I not learn anything?

@@JorgeCanovas In this situation, the boss is senior, so the college student should just follow his lead. In this situation, the boss needs to be 100% in charge.

In theory I agree with the idea of dining well dressed. In reality most occasions when I have an opportunity to dine at a fine steakhouse are when I am on vacation and are impromptu opportunities. And with the kids. So I end up being dressed more like a tourist in shorts, etc. I have never been turned away. I can't even really say I have been treated poorly. The kids are well behaved. We don't overburden the staff. And tip commiserate with service which is always well.
You know what gets you treated better than being in an uncomfortable suit? Going in flip flops for the 20th time that year and having tipped well the 19 times before. They will all remember you. Especially the only people in any restaurant that really matter... the bartenders.

After like 3 months, there was one time I just came back from school, 4pm, wearing my uniform, and nobody got a problem. Another customer complained about me, and the waiters and waitresses calmly explain "they are our regulars, and the young man just had a rough day". Now I know why my father says that the tips are to respect their line of work, coz now my father also earns their respect.

Sometimes, and ONLY if it is a house made sauce, do you use the steak sauce. But you NEVER put it directly on the meat, only on the plate to dip it in. Quite a few steak houses are proud of their house made steak sauce and want you to try it. The ones that do make their own sauces are worth taking up on that.
It's common sense I guess. Weird enough, I still get the same reception when I'm wearing a leather jacket, v-neck, jeans and chelseas as I do when I'm in a suit.

dont talk to me about your fantasy steakhouse rules when you button both buttons on your suit
I've been going to steakhouses in flip-flops for over 15 years and not one time has a waiter/waitress treated me poorly. I don't know what this guy is raving about, I come eat my med rare prime rib/ribeye and leave, only leaving them a $5-$10 tip everytime.
Where a suit and order the cheapest bottle of wine. 😂😂😂😂
Nothing is better then Keens NYC
While I agree with the dress code note, don’t be a hater when you’re the one pairing a beige/olive tie with a red/blue plaid shirt
Now my rules: walk into your local Texas Roadhouse and order a 16oz ribeye mid rare, ask for extra honey butter with the free rolls and a house salad with blue cheese. Pay you’re 24 dollar tab, throw your waiter no less than 5 dollars and have a good day.
I'm excited when I can afford a $15 steak. I can't even imagine the glory of a $99 steak!!!
Keens creamed spinach is amazing.
Every ham, steamed to perfection.
This is all common knowlegde in almost every venue except maybe for fastfood type venues. Only the wine thing is somewhat knowledgeable, however it does sound very logical especially for more chic venues..
Dude has on the crappy suit explaining how a suit is key lol
HOW THE HELL AM I TO REMEMBER ALL OF THIS?
So... 1. Dress up 2. Avoid expensive appetizers 3. Don't fear the less expensive bottle of wine.
If it’s not a bone in rib-eye I’m not even getting out of bed
went to Sparks in 2012 wearing shorts and a plain white t-shirt.... got great service.
ordering bottled water does more than being dressed nicely, also if your old fashioned comes with more than one big ice cube you're being cheaped out
"Let's do..." Yeah, when I talk to a waiter, I always start with "let us do..." #jumpedupgoon
Went in with sweat pants, jogger shoes, and an ugly hipster hoodie, we got a private booth for free hahaha

$99 for a steak. You can get a better quality steak here in South Africa for R150 or $10. No wonder tourists flock here.
There's a special spot in hell for people who order a 'well done' steak.
$99 dollars for a steak?!! WTF... Here in Texas, if you're willing to drive a little, you can go to your local cattle rancher and they will butcher and prep for you AN ENTIRE COW that you get to take home in steaks, ground meat, rounds, etc. You can get a whole cow for 4 of those steaks. Plus your money stays local and you help out your local ranchers.

Eating a Cow’s carcass should always be a formal experience. And I put A1 on every steak, don’t care how expensive it is.
It’s so fun to watch people get all moist where called out for dressing in a shitty way.
So this guy wanted to eat steak for lunch, he told his producers that he is going to "make a video" so he could eat expensive steaks and foot the bill to his employer.
$200 in flip-flops is the same as $200 in the suit
Wait! That is the end? Dress nicely and refuse high end specials?
If I were the kind of person to give special treatment to strangers based on how they dress, I'd rather give special treatment to the unassuming guy in regular clothes because he might not (or might) afford fancy restaurants as often.
No wrong way to order a steak? The kitchen will laugh at anyone ordering well done and give you the worst cut since there is no point in ruining a good steak.
filet minion has very little flavor the same person will say prime rib is packed with non existent flavor.
Just relax & walk in. Be presentable. Aka a human being.
What he said about a guy in suit being treated much better than a guy in flip flops got me.
Is anything wrong in ordering a well done prime rib????? I
0:04 was the only error i noticed. there aren’t rules, this video is a guide to some of the “conventions” if you will
Highest margin wine on the menu is the second cheapest. The restaurant got wise to people choosing the second cheapest wine over the cheapest.
essentially just have money lol
Never been into a real steakhouse before, only cafes which serve steak. Maybe I should try
That old fashioned had a maraschino cherry in it and not a luxardo
So basically if you like steak and have money eat at a steak house and also if you have money dress for success lol all these things equal one thing that is work as much and as hard as you can and enjoy what you love
I appreciate these videos, but the concept of spending 100$ on a cut of meat is so far removed from where I'm comfortable in life, "It's absurd" doesn't even begin to address it. Also, I like how the server tried to give that 15-20% tip a kick in the ass by suggesting a damn "Seafood Tower" For the reasonable price of 100+ USD ahaha.
@captainapaullo
8 жыл бұрын
+SainnQ servers in high end establishments are salespeople whose livelihood depends on a percentage of meal and beverage totals. seafood expires. when one's manager tells one to push the seafood, one complies. also, you're not just tipping the server, you owe gratuity for wine steward, table steward, bartender, and maitre d. in an upscale joint, 40% or better is not unusual. if one does not have the means to afford fine dining, and tip generously, one should find a good butcher and learn how to cook.
@EraChanZ
8 жыл бұрын
+Simon Beaulieu Not only that; why is it the customers job to make sure the waiters have a livelyhood? We are not employing them, the restaurant is. In most (if not all) european countries; the waiters are only tipped if they performed properly, or if the diners had an outstanding experiences. It rewards ''that little extra'', but, importantly, does not expect it. A proper, normal service, requires no 'tips' if the customer isn't comforable with it. Why not? Because the bloody restaurant pays their staff enough to live of off... America has got it all backwards, as it does with so many things.
@captainapaullo
8 жыл бұрын
EraChanZ SainnQ Simon Beaulieu You don't live, work, or dine in most [if not all] european countries, so moaning about how it's better elsewhere is ridiculous. Most [if not all] european countries have national health and considerably higher taxes. You live, work, and dine here and should act accordingly. Proper normal service here in the states requires a tip. You surely are aware that most [if not all] servers [according to current state and municipal statute] earn less than $4 hourly from their employer. If or when that changes... if or when your dining bill increases by 2x or 3x so that establishments can afford to produce quality product, and pay servers a living, and turn a profit, what will be your comment? That restaurant and those servers are there for one reason: to make money... not to make your life better for free or supply your dining experience with "that something extra" without being compensated. Did you think you were getting "that something extra" because service industry workers like you? No. Service industry workers produce "that something extra" for those who tip generously. Those are the patrons servers like. When the bellman or cabin steward brings your bags to the room the hand is out. You tip. When the delivery arrives, you tip. If you can't or won't tip for service, you can't afford service. If you can't or won't tip generously, you're just an ass. Beware returning to a restaurant where you have dined without tipping. Those servers know you and are instructing the kitchen to ruin and pollute your food in filthy and disgusting but not obvious ways. And filthy, disgusting non-tipping diners deserve it. When you are seated at a servers' table you are employing them, in the same way they are using their skills in the service industry to earn your money. You don't want to pay $100 for a meal, and you don't want to tip. Those who cannot deal with the reality that service requires tipping shouldn't be dining out. Most [if not all] servers don't want those like you at their tables anyway... so, you should patronize fast- or fast casual establishments or stay home and learn to cook.

SainnQ The server pushed the seafood because management instructed them to. Shellfish expires. Items need to sell. Yes, the seafood tower would increase the total bill and the tip because it's based on that percentage. But when a server offers a fish special, that is not the motivation. Specials are based on moving what is in the restaurant's inventory prior to spoilage.
