Staying at abandoned farm in rainforest

I hike for three hours to Leitch’s Hut, an abandoned farm deep in the Waitomo rainforest. Unfortunately near the start I trip over and fall on the track leaving me with a large scratch on my leg and bruised ribs. Find out whose farm this was and why they abandoned it over one hundred years ago.

See exactly what hiking or tramping in New Zealand is all about with a behind the scenes look at the state of these unmaintained tracks, when the track reviews say “expect changed conditions” this is what they mean. Ideally, those tasked with looking after the conservation land will find the necessary resources and better weather to catch up on all the maintenance work needed as this is a beautiful area to hike in.

Glad you enjoyed it Lex, the bush is magnificent and so dense once you get away from the previously farmed area 😀. I can’t even imagine trying to cut a track through 😳

Thanks @beyourself3711 glad you enjoyed it. Lol a split second after I hit the ground, the solar power pack hanging off my pack swung over and smacked me in the back of the head. Talk about adding insult to injury 👊😁😖

It would have been so tough Shane, clearing a couple more acres every year 😅. There’s a bit of dead wood in the mac’s, not a good place to camp under but all the hunters dog boxes are under there 🐕🏕️
