Modern medicine treats each individual disease as if it were a distinct entity separate from everything else that happens in the body. Rather than study the root causes and underlying mechanisms of aging, we look for drugs to block abnormal processes and suppress symptoms. Functional Medicine provides a new road map for healthy aging-one in which we don’t view all diseases of aging as different things.
In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I discuss why we need to reframe our concept of aging, how and why we age the way we do, and what to do about it. What I’ve discovered has blown my mind and changed the way I approach my own health and the health of my patients. I’ve compiled it all into a new book called Young Forever, which comes out on February 21, 2023. Learn more and preorder the book at youngforeverbook.com.

Thank you for all you do, Dr. Mark. Love listening and learning from you and applying it in my daily life. I heard and started your You tube last April of 2022 and proud to say I am feeling and looking much better now than when I was on my 60's. I am 73 and not on any maintenance medication and my weight is 120 pounds. No soda, gluten, corn and beans, no processed or fast foods for me. Have been on 2 meals a day and loss over 30 pounds. My body inflammation is gone. I realized that one has to be assertive of your own health. So far this is the best thing I have done for myself! American food industry likes people to get sick for Pharmaceutical's profits.

I read your Ultra Mind Solution book many years ago. It was inspiring. In winter, here in the Northeast, I get SAD, and have since a child... I just began dosing with Vitamin B1, Benfotiamine. It instantly aleviated my anxiety. I've never had a vitamin affect me so profoundly, after one dose. I'm 72, and began the ketovore diet after being keto for a year, high fat. This diet has alleviated blood sugar issues, but the damage carbohydrates have done over the years with attempted veganism, high carbohydrates. It is my goal to reverse this damage if I can. I was always told my FBS was "high normal." What I found out too late was that it was more high, than normal, and I've damage. On this diet, my prostate has shrunk. I do not have the uninary issues many of my peers have. I developed a neuroma in my right foot. I am managing it with this diet. If I now comsume carbohydrates, this neuroma flares up, reminding me I need to stick to the program. I am fascinated with functional medicine... it makes complete sense. I appreciate the reminder of having purpose. I need to seriously ponder this. Living a long healthy life is one purpose... and this diet seems to have been a step in the right direction. I am seeking ways of getting through a winter psychologically, and developing better sleep habits, which I believe are closely tied. How I'd love to winter over in Costa Rica. I live for the summer months here.... Halloween to Easter is a slog....

My mother is 96 years old..she was doing fine until the pandemic..my grandson moved in with her during that time..feeding her and such so now that hes moved out shes not being waited on anymore and doesn't cook for herself so she only eats eggs...she doesn't want to cook anymore. She's been eating eggs every day of her life. Most of her life she ate plenty of vegetables and cooked all her meals..no fast food.

I wanted to find more on Ayurveda system and what clicked there these centenarians that you talk about I have seen them in Himalayas functioning beautifully and then with a stroke of luck I found your KZread videos and started paying close attention to your talks and other podcasts from 242 lbs at one point, I am down to 174 kudos to you for bringing this approach I figure that our system of medicine has become more protocol centered rather than patient centered. 🙏

How do we get help in the uk if we don’t have loads of money! Our NHS is so far removed from functional medicine, so far! The information you give is of some help but as you aren’t permitted to discus more than one issue at a time during an appointment with the GP! You would only get the basic bloods done even if you ask for them but to do diagnostics with bloods etc, no chance! I have had Ulcerative Colitis among other things but not once do the consultancy give any advice relating to proper cause diagnosis, you just get drugs ie biologics or threatened with removal of the colon!!

Functional medicine did not help me eliminate fibromylagia turned neurological-- done and tried it all. Brain retraining significantly helped get out of an attack triggered by vaccine. I've been exercising and eating super clean since diagnosis 25 years ago. Supplements, detox etc did not help. I'm still walking and functioning, and all I've done probably helped, but did not get rid of chronic disease.

Sir but who is going to financially support long life! I visit the homebound on Sundays after Catholic mass, I take them the Eucharist and I have a 92 yr old who is/has run out of money. The pension is not enough. People won’t have enough money to live that long. I also have an 87 who is secure but completely alone in her home, no visitors. Neither of her 4 sons gave her grandchildren. 😳

Health care costs are out of control. Going WFPB vegan can save money, pain and suffering from disease. Lower your chance of high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer by going vegan. Hospitals, doctors offices and schools should be places where good nutrition is taught and provided not places that contribute to disease and obesity. It is crazy the hospitals are feeding people the very food that caused the heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer that they are treating. Every person in the hospital should receive some nutrition education before being released. Every doctor visit should be an opportunity to educate patients about how food choices impacts their health outcomes. The fact that doctors do not get nutrition training as part of their training makes no sense. Medicare and Medicaid should require nutrition education as part of patient care. Focus should be on food choices.

  • @patriciacook2809
