I often see the fist supinating at the very end of the punch, so that it snaps around at the point the arm has reached full extension. It looks powerful to the untrained eye and feels strong because it snaps hard. BUT, I believe the fist should be completely overturned a short distance before full extension so that the snap/thrust/kime is moving in the direction of the target.

She's obviously a world class karateka. HOWEVER, she is probably the WORST offender of slapping the dogii during kata performances. If you do a review of her championship match, slow the speed to 0.25 and you'll see just how often she open hand slaps herself to produce sound. Which should be considered a foul in WKF rules.

The 3 things you said is quiiiite frequent in competition katas, specially the last one, competitors like Luca valdessi use to smack their bodies, specially in shuto uke with kokutsu dachi in order to make it sound and look powerful. The sound made from a karate-gi shouldn't come from the gi but as a result from the kime

Hmm like u pointed out in the video. Maybe it’s only in certain schools where loud breathing is not allowed. I’m from the Goju-Ryu style and especially when we do Sanchin kata, we actually are encouraged to breathe heavily. But yes, you can tell which part of the body they are breathing with just by listening.

But what is considered "too loud" when you "stomp" during movement. I understand that intentionally stomping for the sound is a horrible habit but what about unintentional "stomping" when trying to move quickly in a stance or if you are preforming on hard surface or a tatami (you can generally hear "stomping" when a kata is preformed on the floor more clearly than a tatami) so what is the rule of thumb to know that you need to work on stomping less or if it is fine? Wish this doesn't sound like nonsensical rambling

A lot of people fakes. On the other side I have friends who has never ever trained karate (only watched it on TV) and you would be amazed how good they are at it. One time we were out with friends, and some smartasses attacked us and he could, in 10 secs, get them all to the ground. We asked him if he was a karateka and he said - no I have never trained officialy. I have learnt it watching on TV.

These are all good points but if you look at all the WKF stuff and the All Japan Tournament everyone is doing at least one or two of the things you listed in this video. As much as some people do not like it, the reality is that if the judges like it and the person who is doing it wins tournament, that becomes the standard. The idea of doing proper kata died when the tournament system was implemented, everything went to showmanship. Just look at the team kata bunkai, it's a mess.
