Stationeers - Episode 1 - Getting started...

Ойындар

Hey everyone,
Join me as I stumble my way through survival on the moon. My aim is to build a moon base capable of sustaining life (mine in particular). However I have to overcome the science of the game. There will probably be death and explosions but hell, that's just life... isn't it? Or maybe just my life...
I don't think I'm clever enough for this game.... What does H2O mean anyway?
----
This is a minimal edited series. No intros, no transitions, no background music. Just a guy playing a game whilst having no idea how it works.
Enjoy!

"you cant boil water at 30 degrees" Actually, yes you can. You're correct in that you can't at 1 earth's atmosphere worth of pressure. But the lower the pressure around the water, the sooner it will boil. The liquid pipes are essentially at a vacuum, the only pressure in it is the amount of water you put in. If that's not enough then what happens is part of the water evaporates, and evaporation is an endothermic reaction which means it lowers the temperature, which means eventually it reaches a state of equilibrium where the temperature is low enough at this current pressure to no longer boil.

Direction of stripes on iron windows is determined by initial orienatation of the window module when installing it. And yes, it's annoying, because C key rotates them against all axis and there is no way to tell it's orientation at that point. I think there are keys that rotate modules against particular axis, but i don't remember.

You have steam (evaporated water in your base, you can get rid of it by either lowering temperature in the room to -0°C or lower until it turns into ice or reducing the room pressure (2ways that i know of), i always keep my ice crusher outside just for this reason >.> You can pressurise the room with oxite and not use the O2 tank on the lander (it has a port for your O2 canister to refill) Doing that increases your time to spend on other things before having to work on atmospherics and filtering gasses For plants you want to have your atmospherics built, O2 and Co2 tanks with filtration devices, you can setup simple circuit when pressure drops below 96Kpa to introduce Co2 in the room and if pressure goes above 102 (bcz plants produce more O2 than they consume Co2) you can vent it out and filter the O2 and Co2 again back to the atmospherics system that way you also get permament O2 supply production from the plants, Getting Co2 is easy on mars, it has 95% Co2 so just vent atmosphere inside the tank trough Co2 filtration machine to get rid of nitrogen and pollutants Use portable scrubber with pollutant filter to get rid of it in greenhouse Before atmospheric system, steel is recommended to make solar panels and better power storage (helps a lot) Batteries left at night on mars wil discharge overtime due to -50°C enclosing batteries inside glass walls then vacuum out the air inside with active vent Null temperature is not the same as 0°C so it won't deplete For base temperature green house will keep warming up bcz of glass walls you can put down wall cooler but it takes lots of power, central air conditioning is recommended(kit atmospherics electronic printer) Good luck!

Okay nvm you're on the moon, to get Co2 that plants need you have 2 ways, mushrooms produce Co2 and consume O2 Need a dark room, Burning things in arc furnace/furnace releases gassess among which is Co2 (Make sure to cool it down before putting 800°C gas in your greenhouse) For start, your waste tank contains Co2 releasing it inside greenhouse will help grow few plants

Personally I don't think that you'll ever have enough time for your Co2 in greenhouse to deplete, only of you'll build another base 100500 km away and eventually forget about it😂 You can pump the excess oxygen into your oxygen tank from time to time for refilling the canister. You'll need at least 21% of it in the room with ok pressure (60-100kPa), the other 79 can be Co2. If your AC's waste line is too cold, it will cease to work eventually, so you'll need to heat it up a little (it is in case, for example, if the waste's temp is about -150°C) You don't need too many plants to survive, just a few ferns for making pills, and something to eat - mushrooms, if you are lazy, potatoes, if you are a bit less lazy, tomatoes, if you have a bit more time to grow it and make a soup from it, and so on.

So to answer all your questions, I hope it's still relevant... Where did my power go? The ice crusher has a small heater now to heat the ice up, it doesn't just crush by magic any more. That's obviously power hungry. That's why it doesn't release the stuff it holds immediately, too. How do I get rid of the water in the room? Kit drain, build a passive liquid inlet, pipe it outside or just into your existing water pipes. Why is there steam in my water pipes if it is below 100°C? Water boils at any temperature, you just need to remove pressure. That's why water boils at lower temp on mountains, or stays liquid above 100°C in a pressure cooker. The graph in the 'pedia tells you at which pressure things become liquid for any given temperature. Everything left of the blue line goes solid (Pure Water Ice in the case of water, the ice you find outside on the moon contains traces of nitrogen). Ice in pipes means broken pipes, that's why the ice crusher insists on heating stuff up first. Why is there fog in my room? It's actually liquid water (it has the little blue wave for liquids on your tablet), they just didn't want to spend much time on fancy visual effects and liquid simulation, which is why it behaves like a gas in atmospheres and just gives a fog effect. Fluids also ignore gravity so the game doesn't grind to a halt simulating water falls. Why does the wall cooler suck so much? It needs some love, the air conditioner is much better/efficient, but for you the portable AC you have in your lander is enough right now. It will automatically remove some tiny amount of gas from your room and dump heat in to cool your room. When it is full you can just take it outside and vent the hot gas out. Just be careful, though, it's *very hot* gas under a lot of pressure, don't stand too close to it when pulling it open. :/ Hope this helps.

@@PanicAndDieGaming glad to watch, happy to see a new series and learn/re-learn alongside you. As other explained, with the steam in the water pip, don't know if you drain it by episode 2 or later, but you probably want to keep it in there. just as long as the pressure doesn't get high enough to burst the pipe open. But, like others said, the lower the pressure, the easier it is for water to boil. Also, a point that might be helpful for you, like when you were looking at the confusing graph there is a checkbox to change it to Celsius instead of Kelvin so it's more readable for you.

52:41 there is no such thing in the game as oxygen toxicity or CO2 toxicity, so player can breathe pure oxygen at any pressure(if it is high enough) and be just fine. In regards of minimal oxygen, you'll get "oxygen low" warning at oxygen partial pressure less that 18 kPa. So if your atmosphere is pure oxygen, minimum pressure for breathing is 18 kPa. If it is a mixture, partial pressure is calculated as Pp = P*(Np/N), where P is full pressure in the room, N is total moles of gas in the room, and Np is moles of gas in question in the room. Again, partial pressure of oxygen must be at least 18 kPa.

11:02 A breathable atmosphere in the game is the same as real life. 70ish percent nitrogen, 25ish percent oxygen and 5ish percent others. However, in the game, a 100% oxygen atmosphere is breathable too, as well as one with higher CO2 content. Hydrogen (volatiles) will kill you, as well as pollutants. Also, so long as it's for extremely short bursts of time, you can open your visor in a vacuum environment to eat and drink and not take damage. 1:13:07 In the graph: The blue line represents the point where a liquid will freeze and turn into a solid. The black line represents the pressure and temperature at which its phase changes. So, to the right of the blue line and under the black line, it will remain a gas. To the right of the blue line and above the black line, it will turn into a liquid. The black line itself represents the boundary of the phase change. For example: If you want a pollutant to go to 25°C, then the pressure must be at 3640.6kpa. This is important to know for the phase change devices. Another way to look at this is that if the temperature of that pollutant is currently at 25°C, then if the pressure is below 3640.6kpa, it will remain a gas, but if the pressure goes above that, it will turn into a liquid. By dragging the mouse along the line, you can determine the temperature and pressure of the phase change at any given temperature or pressure. Then all you have to do is build your system with that in mind. It's not the easiest thing to understand at first, but once you do, it's fairly simple.
