Big company. More opportunities More money Easier to escape toxic environment More benefits Less top down management (yes, I mean it , more collaboration and less dictation from my experience) More paycheck stability More knowledge of employment laws More people to collaborate with and learn from More projects to contribute to More distance between the tech people (me) and the people that have the personality that wants to conquer and crush others Less mucking about Less demands on social life being intertwined with the business Less personal with more options to meet people that actually end up being your friends or professional connections

I have worked for both. best scenario. A startup purchased by a large company .Benefits of a startup ? Continuity. benefits of a large company ? Job stability and perks. Downside of startup responsibility by far surpasses pay. large company downside Politics and favoritism per department resulting from lack of continuity were each department puts their own interest above the company .

I've worked at both: Apple, Inc., Samsung Electronics and Google (Super Big Tech) and Grind Reel (Start-Up). Big Tech you can't really think outside the boss and use all of your tech skills or new acquired skills. Start-up, you can think outside the box, create your own processes, learn on your own and experiment with new ideas.

This was an excellent overview! Really appreciate you taking the time to make this video.

@@JenniferBrick Thanks. I am considering Logistics or Process Improvement in the Supply Chain.

I come from a military background, so strict structure and protocols are a must at any company I work at. Worked 2 years at a Startup and will never do it, again!

startup sounds to me like tons of unpaid overtime. which means no life outside work. also depending on the company there maybe an inner circle or old guard. those people are kept fully up to date and are included in all conversations.

I've worked with startups that have gone both ways; depends on leadership and the culture they create. I worked with one Founder who expected undying loyalty and non-stop work, but I've worked with others who leave promptly at 5:30p to be with their families. Poltiics exist everywhere, but the big company politics and work demands definitely trend to be less intense.

@@JenniferBrick yeah i get what you mean. i have found i don't last if im overworked. i tend to work aggeesively for a few hours and then i slow down and keep pace. then submit my work. so that my overall pace is more normal. i found in the past if you get work done quick, and hand it in right away you set a trend of expectations that this how you work all the time. now if a last minute request comes by i will come through. but im in no hurry to take on more work because my team is not working fast enough.

Energy management is really important, and finding the pace you can be consistent at helps immensely! I like your approach of strategic overdelivery. More professionals need to do this to keep themselves from burning out.

I've been working for Big Companies for almost 15yrs. Some great, some worse than a startup. Just recently got offer from a Startup, 4yrs in business, got $26M in Round B funding 6 months ago. Offering me 44% pay increase, 100% paid Health benefits, stock options. Their exit plan is IPO. Any more specific advice or ideas? Lol

Dig into the stock options (I have a video that will help). Ultimately, ask yourself 'will this being me closer to my career vision' Whether that is growth, cash, visibility or just working on interesting products align on that.

I worked at a startup from 2015-2017! Will never do it, again!

There is pros and cons with both. Smaller companies have a nicer feel, but might be too close knit. Larger companies, better staff benefits, disadvantages are can be soulless

I declined amazon for a start up
