I'm now imagining that several thousand years in this galaxy's past, some mercenaries were bored and kicked off at some asteroids, only for one to go flying off and signal this invasion to begin. (It's a 'blink and you'll miss it' convo with Canderous Ordo in KotOR 1. He and his Mandalorian group triggered the probe that signalled the Yuuzhan Vong to invade millenia later. Legitimately such a cool lore drop to something otherwise totally unconnected.)
