    @@iityiwhtsy There are actually differences, most of the aftermarket thermostats really last a week. Even worse is buying a aftermarket radiator cap.. Didn't regulate the pressure at all. The difference in pricing is so minor that I won't be wasting more time buying cheapskate versions. Obviously there are lots of parts that are very high, OEM quality, available.

    I have just cleaned my EGR valve thanks to this video, and am delighted with the results. The rev counter used to wobble / lose power when going up a hill. I had initially been advised that the probably cause was the torque converter. I have just brought it for a test drive in the Wicklow mountains and the problem is now resolved, no more loss of power. Thank god for oven cleaner and elbow grease! Thanks again

  • @Spollie
    @Spollie4 жыл бұрын

    Some tips from a nitpicky fellow M57 owner (335d in my case): - Don't delete the swirl flaps, you'll lose power down low. Instead, replace the intake manifold with a remanufactured one that has improved steel swirl flaps (for example from PMG Technik, only costs 160 euro's) - Do an EGR delete, it's the biggest cause of all that gunk in your EGR valve and intake manifold. I recommend a full EGR delete (also deleting the EGR cooler), I used the kit from Bimmertune which is fantastic quality. You'll have to have that coded out. - There's a big chance your glow plugs and/or glow module need replacing, since oil escaping from the swirl flaps ruins them. If they are not working, your DPF won't regen and clog up. - Replace the PCV breather, it tends to clog up and is an often overlooked maintenance item. - Replace the fuel filter, this is also often neglected. Looking forward to more E60 videos!

    Worst part of the thermostat issue is that the lack of reaching the normal operating temperature will cause the DPF regeneration to be suspended, which will eventually cause the DPF to clog up. And BMW in their wisdom has chosen not to inform the owner about this, by giving a warning in the console/display. The Stealers are of cause delighted by this. You will discover it the hard and potentially expensive way, depending on your DIY skills.

My transmission cooler failed as described so I fit an 85deg thermostat inline in the pipe the rises vertically and Tees into a pipe running from the reservoir to the water pump. It was a cheaper option than replacing the heat exchanger. I’ve never see the tranny get very hot, it’s usually below engine temp in mine anyway.

    Was there a nack to bleeding the air from the coolant system afterwards?

  • @focus550

    Fairly lengthy process: Fill with coolant You have to set the heater on the central vent in the car to hot, and the blowers on low fan speed Open the bleed screw on the EGR thermostat until a steady stream comes out Allow the car to run up to operating temperature Let it settle/Cool and check the level is good.

    Just been skimming through the comments and I've got to say there's a lot of pikey shit going on and people who just don't know much about these cars talking there ill informed gospel, just reaffirms why I get so many people through my business to correct people's bodge jobs and fuck ups on these cars. As for the video there are a few things I'd of done differently such as OEM thermostats, circoli normally don't last very long, some people saying to of got mahle/behr stats with scrubbed off bmw number but these can be iffy at times because they were bmw production rejects, OEM parts carry a 2 year parts warranty when ordered with a vin number but last much longer, the repair procedure I'd of done it differently but I do 100's of these so have just learnt what works best for me, also I hope the coolant has been changed to blue. The video is is top notch though, very well presented, filmed and edited nicely, look forward to seeing some more.
