Starting the X-Plane ZiboMod 737-800x from Cold and Dark

Ойындар

A quick look at starting the ZiboMod 737-800x from Cold and Dark in X-Plane. I'm running the latest build of the ZiboMod (3.44.11) in X-Plane 11.5 - a number of small tweaks have happened recently that have resulted in slightly different procedures - therefore I thought it might be worth going through the startup. This is NOT the proper procedure - I was just interested in the functional side.

    This is hands down one of the best tutorials I have seen (And I've seen a lot). I am an absolute beginner, I did however just understand 10% but that's okay. I'll be watching this again and again, please do make more video like these, I like the fact that you didn't just flip switches like a boss but patiently walked us through what some of them do & mean. I will be keeping a lookout for more content like this from you. Also, would you be able to recommend any tutorial resources (like this) to learn the 737 or airliners in general. I got X-Plane 11 a few days back but unfortunately their "Flight School" is below below-average & very half-baked. Thanks Jonathan! Have a nice day. 😀

    EXCELLENT basic review of Zibo mod 737 startup, to give an overview of the process and also explain some of the things going on. Of course it's not intended to cover every action crew would take between power up and taxi but nonetheless the intended purpose is achieved, and very expeditiously. Nicely done, Jonathan. BTW, I use XP-11 and much prefer the Zibo Mod 737-800X and its EFB over the stock Laminar Research 737-800. I can't transition to XP-12 because my graphics card is near its limit now, running in 4K, and XP-12 is much more graphics intensive than XP-11. Your channel is especially rich for those who use MSFS.

    Hi Jonathan, I’m impressed. I’ve run through a number of videos and checklists to learn how to start it up (which I finally managed). I must say that I found yours the best one in giving a nice reference to how individual switches and gauges refer to the systems of the airplane. Putting aside the sequence, I just wish I had come across your video earlier. It surely would’ve saved me some try and error loops ;-) Great job.

    Good evening Jon. I recently subscribed following videos on Littlenavmap tutorials. As a professional B737-800NG pilot I would like to give a little tap on the shoulder. Nice video! This said, we can hear / feel that you aren't always sure and knowledgeable about what to do. I believe, if you are interested into reading, that PMDG or maybe Zibo is providing some pdf file that could lead you with more guideline about what to do, in which order. A big point here is that you wouldn't start your engines at the gate and all your FMC, MCP, overhead panel, radio, etc would be set before starting the engine ( most of the time even before starting the APU). I'm saying this following your video title. I was excepting to see everything but engine start. This said, thanks for your videos!

    I had to turn off the IRS NAV knobs and then start up the engines or an alarm would go off. After engines start then I had to enter the departure airport and then enter the GPS-l numbers to the scratch and then to the FMC and then turn on the IRS knobs to NAV. That seems to be the best way to do it.

  • @jonbeckett

    @jonbeckett

    3 жыл бұрын

    the alarm is going off because you're using power up and you're still on batteries. The better way around to do things is connect ground power first, switch to ground power, then switch on the IRS system. All you are doing by switching on engines is providing power. In the real world you wouldn't start the engines until pushback is complete (pretty much the last thing to do).

    In the 737, it's not done for you - the flight plan, and NAV radios are not connected at all. On the console between you and the co-pilot the NAV radio tuners allow you to tune in VOR and ILS frequencies. Once tuned to an ILS frequency, the bars will appear in the displays - showing the diamonds for the horizontal and vertical position *WHEN YOU ARE WITHIN RANGE* (typically from about 15 miles out, but it varies a lot).

    Thanks! I did not explain my question well, but I played with setting up the IRS. I mean that I was able to place IRS numbers to scratch pad and then place it in the previous page to get the proper IRS alignment. What through me off is that when you did it I noticed that your mouse pointer went to the CLR button and I thought that you had to select it. I should have known better. Also, I notice that you never placed the knobs to ALIGN, but only to NAV. When do you place them to ALIGN? Also, what about the Isolation valve? I would think that you would have to set it back to open??? Hope you can help explain? Thanks!!

  • @jonbeckett

    @jonbeckett

    You don't have to set the IRS knobs to align - only to NAV. Did I set the isolation valve to closed? (if I did, its a mistake)

  • @jonbeckett

    Just re-watched - I always think of the isolation valves as just the packs, and the APU bleed. APU Bleed should be switched off after the engines are running. Packs should be on auto after the engines are started.

    To start the APU you need at least battery power - then depending on if you have ground power, it may take a while for the APU to come up to speed - you can monitor it on the small dial to the left of the APU switches. It should climb to 7 and fall back to 4 - at which point you can switch power over to the APU (the inner two switches).
