Cut the concrete where the posts are, remove posts, pour new pier footings and put up an all steel building. Yes, go taller put in a mezzanine deck to store your bulky blinds etc.

Wouldn't an all steel building be way more pricey than what he previously had? I'd just rebuild the same typa building just a bit bigger to do the mezzanine/2nd story style storage like you said. But if another nado comes through it's gonna just destroy whatever kinda building he puts up so I'd go the cheaper route

I work in the concrete industry. I would not tear the whole pad up. They have concrete grinders that would help with the marks from the excavator and the crack you can buy epoxy's and seal the cracks. Then seal the pad with a non skid coating or do a plan sealant. And got to give y'all a shout out for the selfless generosity and raising all that money for the worse off communities! Heart of gold young man!

There’s no way I’d spend the time and time into replacing the concrete, weather insurance would cover it or not. They make products for patching concrete. Add 2ft or more to each side of the shop, patch the concrete and paint the concrete. You’ll know it’s been done but you’ll never notice it. Also I would 100% take to porch concrete for the boat launch.

Regarding the columns for the new building, You would need an engineer to figure out the dimensions and tie-ins, but you could cut out small sections (notches, squares, rectangles, etc.) of the concrete slab where the new columns will go. Set (plumb) your new columns. Then as per the engineers specs, you hammer drill out some holes in the existing slab for rebar, Most likely use an epoxy anchoring compound for the rebar and then infill with concrete. You should have control-cuts in the slab for the columns so the infills can be made to tie in to the existing slab nicely. You could also laydown epoxy flooring after the new building is up an make it look better than new.

All you have to do is get a concrete cutter out cut out the old post put the new shed in and fill the concrete back in. I’ve moved plenty of steel sheds. We don’t use wood because we have termites but that’s how you put the new shed on a slab that exists.

  • @sonofamerc

Id keep that slab, cut around the edges only where the wood and posts are and then re-pour concrete where the new posts needed to go, pain in the ass but still cheaper, and you could also top off all the cracks and gouges then paint the concrete to cover the scratches

Definitely!! Use the concrete from the porch for the boat launch great idea. I'd say leave the pad intact due to the amount of mechanical stuff you got running through/under. I know they make some pretty good anchor bolts to fasten the sill plate. Ideally, drill right through the pad and get some kind of expanding anchor bolt. All the best of luck to you 👍 its a bit of a tricky situation, to say the least😅

Having done this kind of work before, mostly by hand, that thumb on the mini paid for itself within an hour of you getting started. I really liked Banjo's idea of preserving that one panel off the DUX trailer. It's a great reminder of your original brand, your first enclosed trailer, your rise from a small self-starter business into bigger and better things, as well as a reminder that things can change in the blink of an eye. Total nostalgia trip every time you look at it. Keep that pad and polish out the scuff marks. Look at a steel frame contsruction.

If you have any of the dux tin left, you should cut it up and put it as a package with the jerky...for your concrete, you might want to get a Mason in and ask about fixing the cracks with epoxy, then you can possibly grind the surface and do a recoat..OR if the sections are really bad, they can come in, saw cut the, drill in rebar rods then pour new concrete... they do this all the time in shops.. with the concrete you have cut out, can you possibly bring a few sections down to the animal pet to place the buildings on, then anchor them down to help save them in the future> Good Luck!!

For the concrete I say that would be the best boat launch in the county with those slabs. For the paint there are heavy acid chemicals that will strip the concrete clean. I would seal it then after that. For the claw marks you can use a resurfacer, they make vinyl concrete, concrete with fiberglass, even patching concrete you can always add chemical hardeners, glues, or your own fiber. Lots of them can withstand 3,000/5,000/8,000 PSI. For the large cracked concrete on the edges I would just use that concrete saw, cut out the bad parts and re-pour those sections. I don't see why you couldn't build off of the original structure but if you plan on going taller you might as well pour new footings and put longer rafters in going wider. Either way it's what will fit in the budget and either way you choose to build it will work just fine. It's always a plus if you can go bigger. I say that everyday I work in my garage or as my neighbors call it my Taj Mahal.

I would leave the concrete cut out around the poles then put new poles and footings in. Then build the building structure the same way. But get like super nice epoxy floors not like the home depot kits get it professionally done. They say they can hold up to oil stains and all kinds of stuff like that so should be good in the shop but maybe if one bay of the shop isn't all messed up then leave that bay concrete to pull the skid steer and heavy equipment in the shop.

They make stuff to repair the cracks you just have to get a builder that isn't trying to milk you for a big job and just repair what you have. Then build back how you want. I'd go taller and if you want go longer but there is no real reason to go wider. I'd the builder doesn't want to do it seek a 2nd and 3rd opinion and price. On big jobs always get at least 3 quotes and recommendations. Great videos!

The slab can certainly be saved, we just had to have several sections repoured in the building I work in and we have forklifts running through it all day long. At the very least I would pour pier footers to anchor to and I would seriously consider a red iron type steel structure. Best of luck, hope the little one is doing well!

If your original footings are large enough move left/right of original post like 8-10 inches. inspectors and code seem to like to see things over built. Your layout should be close may have to add/shrink the shop. If you have to cut the apron get a stihl concrete saw cut it up into more manageable size pieces a 6x10 chunk may be a bit much for the ole skid steer. She might pick it up but your not gonna be able to get her to the pond very easily. Hope this helps

Idk what contractor you talked to, but you’d cut the concrete around the posts, set new ones & patch it. ALSO, you don’t need to pull the porches out either! Unless plumbing itself is damaged, all you need to do is seal cracks & skim coat the top with self leveling concrete. Don’t spend more money making a bigger footprint, just go higher. If you don’t need clearance space for large equipment all the away across, put in a bigger loft space with an access spot where the skid steer can lift things to unload up there. It’d make it really functional storage up there.

I would cut out areas that the builder wants to posts and pour a new pier with weld plates in them. Then make your new frame out of steel. This would provide you with stronger bones and ability to have a larger loft area. Also an in floor drain with an electric animal hoist would be awesome to have. Maybe when demoing concrete you could add the drain. If you don’t like how the slab looks, maybe do an epoxy coating?

Use the slab. You can cut out specific areas for your main structural posts. Your plan of removing the porch slabs and using them at the pond is solid.

Scratches can be repaired. Your going to need to either patch it or sand it down with a buffer and relevel and finish it. Post can be redone with concrete saws and any plumbing can be repaired without pulling anything. They cut them flush and they make special couplings for stuff like that. Id use the same plans you had for the first one for all the burried things and change what you want.

On the concrete once the shop is done, add design to the floor. If you look up garage floor design people pour something on the floor that looks like resin that protects the floor.

Being in concrete/masonry, you could definitely reset that slab and reuse it as a boat ramp. We have removed slabs and put them elsewhere for homeowners. It takes more time, but you are doing the work so no money wasted! Also, be careful lifting with the skid loader as it will be heavier than you think. May want to haul it down on a trailer to reduce the risk of it breaking also! Good luck and look forward to the rebuild!

Also, a new pad if insurance won’t cover it will be a waste in my opinion. You could have a company come in and fix the cracks and epoxy the whole floor and make it look awesome. If the insurance covers it, absolutely get a new floor. Even if you left the concrete the way it was, it won’t matter much to anyone but you and the guys that pay attention to it.

I’m with what the other guy said, I would saw cut and demo inside of the posts, re pour how ever far you want to extend it from there. Go with steel beams, they could even be bolted on top of the slab. Run some concrete leveler over the pad with a buffer and stain it, it would look brand new and you’d probably like the look of it stained better anyway.

If you have to remove the previous porch area concrete using is as a boat ramp would be a great recycling of the concrete. Might have to use the large excavator as that is a lot of concrete in a 6'x8' slab, especially if it is 4 in. thick. Hoping for a full recovery of the land for you and speedy rebuilds for all of the community up there!

I worked as an insurance adjuster on the Catastrophe Response Team for a major company until last year and I would definitely try and talk with your Insurance Adjuster before making a decision. It will depend on your policy if they will cover a new pad. If you have a RCV (Replace Cost Value) policy they will owe to bring you back to a pre-loss condition, or up to the coverage limit. Another thing to note is most insurance companies will only pay the ACV (Actual Cash Value) upfront. ACV is calculated by subtracting depreciation (calculated using an industry standard based on the age of the building) from the RCV. Once you have rebuilt the shop they will then pay out the additional amount to bring you up to the RCV. Just a little info

Don't let the insurance company push you around! As an example, we had a detached garage burn down, they initially wanted .to give us around $25K. But we documented everything that was destroyed, took lots of pictures, found some "before" pictures, etc, etc. In the end, they wound up paying out $150K+. We weren't trying to rip off the insurance company, just wanted to get everything replaced....

Flair love your videos, started watching when you did the nuke bunker. So you are right concrete will crack, the outer edges maybe cut the concrete and remove it but if you have rebar that might not be so easy. Once you have all the concrete replaced you are going to replace hire a company that does epoxy flooring it would look amazing very durable and you will never see those cracks or flaws when they are done. Hell if a lot cheaper than replacing the entire pad. I was very impressed with the drains, electrical and plumbing work you did think ahead. Good luck look forward to seeing how you deal with it.
