Starting Over and Leaving Everything Behind

Remote life is truly just that, remote. It gets lonely working when you're not in the right environment or not around the same type of people. After a while, it wears on you and you just can't take it anymore. You don't grow anymore, and the environment is not going to help you, so I told myself it's time to do something about it and I just plain moved away to Texas to force a new positive environment to reinvigorate my lifestyle as a remote worker. In this video I talk about why I did it and without a plan...

I left everything behind in Louisiana and moved to Northern California. That was the best decision I've made because I finally escaped all the negativity that was around me. Yes I took a leap of faith and it worked out very well for me. I have a very good job and a nice place that's super comfy and cozy to come home to. My state of mind is at the best it has ever been. Yes it is scary to just up and leave everything behind but if you stay positive and focused you will be fine.

Hi Chris, thanks for the post. Great to hear that you are doing well. Similar situation here; live in Louisiana and quit job after 14 years. Felt stuck and extremely unhappy. Quit last week and not even a plan. I have some financial leverage, but I just know that I need to get out of La. Had enough here. Single, no kids, not even a dog. Spending my time now seeing where I'd like to go, but it must happen soon. A bit scary, but I have to do this.

I pretty much did exactly that, sold everything I had and kept the necessities that can fit in my car and just left. Anything to reduce stress will help as making a life decision to move is already a stressful transition.

Now I am back into a new situation where I am once again not happy. And just like last time I am going to down size most of what I own so I can get back to my minimalist roots. I feel free when I don't have hardly any possessions. The more stuff I own the more trapped I feel. I am at the cross roads where I can't continue my life style because I am simply not happy with it. I am moving again to a different state, and I don't want to move "stuff" again. What do people who move with nothing actually take with them? Thanks for watching my video! 🙏🏻 Great question, I basically narrowed down to only the essentials and I got rid of everything slowly. I made a pile of things that were a definite no, a pile for maybe, and a pile of essentials. From there I either donated, gave away or sold. It wasn’t easy as I accumulated quite a bit over 13 years at the time living in my house. I then look at my essentials and figure out what fits in my car and from there I lived a minimalistic lifestyle since to keep my life simple. I made myself “move ready” and stayed mobile while being in Dallas. But yes, I’m still here and I never regretted my decision, my quality of life is 100x better since the move 😊.

Hi Eve, what helped me was having the right support system with specific friends and trusting in myself that I’ll figure things out once I made the leap (which I did), and reminding myself what’s the worse that can happen? I simply go back to where I was before. I also asked myself constantly will I regret not doing it and if the answer is yes, I’m committed to doing it. I don’t want to live with regrets anymore. So that helped me gain the confidence to just do it and figure it out along the way, after the initial leap it got easier. I got comfortable being uncomfortable and it led to a much happier life for me. Growth comes with pain so there’s no way around it, it was certainly not easy but totally worth it in my opinion as I’m so much happier now and do not regret it.
