There are a lot of hip hop dancers on KZread. A lot. However, watch black/African American hip hop choreographers/pros to get the best education on that genre. Imho.

Self-taught dancer here, I absolutely agree with the stretching point haha. I started at 12 but honestly never took stretching seriously and boy do I wish I had!!

I really like your channel Kirsty! Please post a follow-along stretching routine. I would love to see how you maintain your middle splits!

It is completely up to you. As a dancer, I never competed whilst training however, I wonder whether my confidence in terms of performance may have improved at a faster pace if I had. It may be controversial but I do believe the beauty of dance can be lost in the world of competing because dancers often get lost in the idea of trying to win/ impress rather than move and feel with passion. You could try it out and if you feel like it's not for your at least you gave it a go! You don't have to compete to be a dancer and you never have to do anything you don't want to do!

Fantastic video! Do you have any advise for a 16 year old starting dance?

I would recommend you give it a go; choose a dance style and try it at home or you could take a class and see how you feel. Just a note if you do decide to go to a dance class: it's very normal to be terrified and uncomfortable in your first few classes. Dance puts you in such a vulnerable position where you will definitely be out of your comfort zone so don't put yourself down if you struggle at first. I'm not sure where you're based in the world however, training solely in dance at college when I was 16 really made such a massive difference in my training. My improvement simply over 1 year was incredible and all because I was training everyday and learning multiple styles of dance.
