I've been b-boying for years. If I knew, or practiced, other styles today, I would be a much better b-boy. Just by watching how other dancers interpret their dance and the music, there is a lot of inspiration that you can get from dances besides your own

Do you still dance? If so, just throw yourself into other styles, capoeira, floor work (contemporary) and house (in my opinion, it's completely different in terms of mechanics and rhythms but it does fit quite well) are amazingly connectable to Breaking 🤘🏼

What does it mean to "siphon" a dance form? Is it mimicking? I'd be ok with somebody trying out any of these styles even if that sombody doesn't know much about the history. Most of the dancers in the video emphasize self-expression as well as community. And, really, dancing isn't the saving the world; it's dancing, so why not? Let people have fun and do their thing.

As a shuffler and as others have pointed out, it is crucial to also include the "T-Step" along with the Running Man as the foundational moves. These two together is what makes shuffling and the illusion that one is gliding through the dance floor. Also as someone from the Chicagoland area, "Mike n Ikes" is not a name used in shuffling. As you said, it has a lot of names and shuffling commonly uses "Crab" like from hiphop or "Heel Toe", but the name "Mike n Ike" is directly referencing Chicago Footwork. While the move is very similar, the name and style differentiate the two. Look up Chicago Footwork by King Charles and Pause Eddie and you'll see where "Mike n Ikes" comes from. I love that the video is showing a glimpse of the history of each dance so it's important to know these terms and where they came from! Otherwise cool video!

Heel is different from Mike n ikes. In funk social dances from 60s/70s this move was the Watergate or the funky chicken. Even further back to Vernacular solo jazz its connected to the Mashed potato or the twist

One thing that I really love about being a (mostly) self-taught dancer is that I've never noticed all the different styles that I've incorporated into my choreographies! I'm mainly a hip-hop, shuffler and waving + whacking dancer, but I've recently looked into breaking to spice up my solo performances. It's amazing how you could use multiple styles in one choreography to compliment each other!

I'm not gonna be a gatekeeper like the old shufflers were saying that "its not true shuffling unless there's t-step" but its equally criminal to only include running man as the main step and completely overlook the t-step given how fundamental it is/was to the origin of the style.

In my opinion, it will be great if you review and edit the subtitles because it is quite confusing. for example, in Thai, we don't call "Shuffling" as "สับไพ่". We normally call it 'shuffle/ชัฟเฟิล'. Your subtitles are not consistent as well. This is really good content and it can be better

My main style right now is Waacking and I really really love waacking as a whole. I'm currently exposed and training to other dance styles such as afro and dancehall because of my current crew. Dancing these 3 dance styles for me has this amazing feeling of freedom and comfort. Dance styles like these made me respect and appreciate all kinds of dancing even when I'm not practicing them because every dances has a history and origin that should be recognized and respected. This video is one step for educating new dancers about the various dance styles. Thank you so much for this amazing video Steezy !

I am so amazed at the seemingly innate connection with music we all have. These were all great. Special shoutout to the robot gal: the first couple moves looked good but were slow and I was thinking 'okay, yea, definitely robot, not bad', but then she kicked into gear in the second half. Amazing. Thanks for all of this.

These were so interesting to learn the history, heart and energy of these dance styles! it really strengthens the strong notion of us all as one nation of people - who inexplicably MUST express ourselves through motion! i was feeling and rhinking a LOT from these amszing segments but i really found myself SMILING fastest at Bhangra - the pure PLAY got straight to me!
