STARTING And FIXING My Honda Helix After Sitting For THREE YEARS
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
It's time to build the creation of our dreams... the StreetJET (or the HelixJet). My 1987 Honda Helix was picked up to be the base of my jet ski for the street, but it needed a few things and lot of space to build the project in. Now we have a lot of space and it's time to get the bike finished up. I'm going to bring it back to life after 3 years of sitting outside, try to fix the things it needs to pass the VIN inspection if they look any deeper, and take it out for a ride.

What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make KZread videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?
Instagram: WatchJRGo
Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

Glad to see the Helix back! After watching your first Helix video last year, I bought a 2004 from a family member that had one sitting in a garage for over a decade. It’s now running and back on the road, and I drive it almost every day.
I drove one of these for 30,000 miles (many of them on the freeway at wide-open throttle) and have done EVERY service imaginable to it in my living room. For several years, I fielded questions on a polular Helix forum. Let me know if you have any questions. Also, you cannot kill these engines - I lost my oil plug at 77 miles per hour where it seized up… and after letting it cool off, I refilled it with fresh oil and drove it another 10,000 miles before I sold it. The connector you found under the dash is the power supply cable for the optional Kenwood stereo.

Hello there. I'm not sure id you're still passionate about this bike. I'll be getting one for really cheap from a local dealership in a couple days, and was wondering what to look for the most. And what to do maintenance on that is most crucial.

@@jaxd7206 Good questions. Without even seeing it, here's what I know it needs regardless of miles; Note: DO NOT BUY PARTS OFF AMAZON OR EBAY UNLESS your local Honda dealer cannot get them. Seriously. Chinese parts have FLOODED the market and are total garbage when compared to OEM parts, and Honda has been good about providing parts for many years - yes, they're expensive, but they will last. 1) Carburetor mount (these ALWAYS break). 2) Muffler gasket set (these must be replaced anytime the rear wheel is removed for any reason). 3) Carburetor cleaning (at a minimum). Some replacement parts may be needed, such as float bowl seal. 4) Front brakes if it has over 12,000 miles on it (I usually got around 10-12,000 miles on a set of pads - the rear brake shoes last FOREVER). 5) Stator wiring harness grommet WILL leak oil, it's a fact of life. Don't worry about it. 6) Battery (if it cranks without a jump, it's fine - otherwise, replace it. There's no kick-start backup on these, so a dead battery can ruin your day!) 7) Oil change (unless the dealer did it already). 8) Lastly, the belt should be replaced based on age. The belt is good for about 12,000 miles or 5 years or so. I'd change it. While you're there, get a belt case air filter and change the final drive oil with synthetic 75w90 gear oil. These are VERY well built machines and can actually go for nearly 200,000 miles with proper service. I wish I kept mine, but I've moved onto other stuff.

Look at that dash... The Helix is basically an S2000. Also... Is it in my mind or was there talk of a street driven hot tub as well..?

This is honestly my favorite vehicle on the channel right now. Can’t wait to see it completely cleaned up.
It's been so long since you bought that I barely remembered it. Glad to see it going again.
I remember when you first got that thing. 'The Supercar of Scooters' you called it. I also remember when you announced your plan to join the two. I've been subscribed forever.

Well this brings back some memories. When I turned 16, instead of a car my parents bought me a Honda Elite 250cc. Needed a motorcycle license to drive it. Not what you have but looks very similar, mine was black (this was around 1988 or so). After I left for the Army after graduation, my dad drove it for awhile until he wrecked it by sliding it into a parked car on a wet road. It was still rideable but would overheat for some reason. Front end around the headlight was smashed in a bit. I would have liked to of kept it and have it repaired but they ended up getting rid of it.

I love this so much. I just had to replace the flasher on my F-150 two weeks ago and I noticed it uses the same one you just made work on the Helix. My F-150 has also been sitting in my driveway for four years not running until last month when I finally got it going.
of all the things I've seen you repair...........this blinker repair really made me smile.......nice work !!!!
I used to have a Helix. That thing was amazing, I loved it. Then I got stupid and decided I needed a regular motorcycle instead. The motorcycle is definitely faster but the Helix was just way more fun
For some reason I was expecting THE GOLD RATCHET.

the despair in your voice when you realized you got a Chrome Battery lol made me laugh. I love rare scooters and mopeds. I have a Tomos Sprint ST moped that I daily to work.
Wife had a blue one back in the early 90s. Was so fun to just jump on and zoom. Really enjoying all your different content. I totally forgot you even had this…. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Peace
9:55 Um, actually, that's NOT the "flasher connector" - It's the power connector for the optional AM/FM radio.

Rain mode is better than the next two weeks of 100°+ days... the upper left of the US is heating up!
Get yourself a CHonda if you want to hack up something to try and make a rolling jet ski, leave this Helix stock, those things are such tanks after 3 years and pretty much started right up, amazing.

That'll be perfect at the shop for quick hops to Ryley's because of the reliability, storage and zoominess. Thanks for the fun. 😍👌👀
Wow, nice to see the Helix running. I have a 89 for 7 years. If you have any questions just let me know.
Sweet play set in the backyard.
This is my dream scooter
Always loved the Helix. And the OG Odyssey (the buggy, not the van). And the Fat Cat. And the Wagovan. And all the oddities of the 80's when Honda wasn't scared to try something, even if it was anything; or nothing at all.

It's a good thing you bought that Mud Truck, it's taking up the slack while your other truck is in the shop. You should convert that Helix to all LED then the battery might never go dead. (You would have to replace the blinker unit. I found an adjustable blinker unit that I put on my 73 XLCH when I put all LED lights on it)
i have a helix and the Chinese Clone, They are a blast to ride!
Looking forward to this and Ultimate Rebuilds' scooter jet ski build.
You should bring back to life the black plastics and paint to show the end result mate, great vids
I had a helix when I was younger powerful scooter!
JR Please don't Hack up the Helix...Its survived this long stock....and I'm pretty sure you won't find a cleaner one...You've enough auto people around that could find you one thats not as nice.
Searched Honda Helix on Google Images and you are first result!
Thats a cool machine 👍😀
Since you have a few days until the shop is ready, how about revisiting the John Deere 422?
hi from Ontario Canada
Lots of love for the Helix content. But equally as much hate for the jet ski body. These scooters are becoming increasingly valuable and hacking one up is blasphemy.
This was the vehicle that brought me to the channel in the first place.
Honestly the 6” of rain isn’t bothering me and I’m looking forward to the 4th in the 80s. Sorry Northwest and Northeast you’re getting a taste of Kansas/Oklahoma/Texas August.
Do the heat gun trick for the dull black plastics!
Man, I do miss me some motorcycle content!
I live in Missouri and it has been raining here too
I have a chrome battery in my Harley. Been good for a couple of years so far.
13:55 "It looks completely stock and it's done really well" .. ♫ Oh Lord it's hard to be humble....♫ I'm sure it was done well, but I totally heard that song
that display really reminds me of the c4 dash. Same style, colors. fonts etc.
Howdy from Arizona
I have a 2009 clone of the Honda Helix made in China. It is a Fashion Moto 250 and is indeed the most comfortable seat anywhere around. It also has pretty much everything you have but mine has a different front end. These machines are indeed the cadillac of scooters. I bought mine brand new in 2011 for $2200 on sale as the store owner wanted to get rid of excessive stock. Sweet deal.
I wish it would rain like that in NJ, we’ve been 3 days with 100+ degree weather
Gauges are straight from a C4! 😂👀
wow 72 thousand miles....damn
Love that Super Scooter. Best Looking. When are getting it wrapped Honda Gold?
You should wrap the helix like the gold wing!😆
Josh might be able to do the inspection for you in the future - in many states military officers and SNCOs can conduct the VIN inspection in lieu of LEOs/DMV.
I got a “chrome” brand battery in my moped (only use it once a year when at a race track) and it’s been in the moped since 2015-16 and it still works great. Outlasted other batteries that cost 6x more
I enjoy this content
