    When i first started with music production I basically tried to learn on my own. Then i always started with some plugins on the master, because i found out it really helped me narrow down the final sound. I really had no clue how to mix at that point, but it helped me out a lot. Then after a couple of years i heard from some people that you shouldn't do that, so i quit doing it. Some years after that again I realized that how i started out mixing was actually the right way, and not how those people told me to do it. It made me go from a bold mixer to a scared moron behind the faders. I am back where i started. Bold moves makes bold mixes!

    Stroke of genius and a wise move getting this guy involved Waves. Thank you. He has a very "Clean and Open" approach. He's "Clean" by his humility and "Open" by not exaggerating the limits of his skills and experience - he can keep it fun. He's very accessible for new guys and learners. I'm looking forward to the next instalments. Thanks Waves and thanks Mr Cochrane. Grand job!

    The weird thing is I've been mixing like that since 2003 and didn't know if it was wrong or not,I guess there's isn't a wrong or right way of mixing as long as the song comes out right..Great tips though Gram..Very inspiring

    Great to see someone like Graham working with Waves like this. I find both him and Joe Gilder quite grounded and realistic in what they do. And as a parallel I think the waves bundles have become more realistic in the deals they offer out from time to time for those working on a budget, or in a home studio environment. It would be great to see someone like Graham working with Waves to put out videos entirely focused on those more affordable bundles such as Waves Gold.

    I don't know what all the fuzz is about. Graham has been doing his thing at TRR for six or seven years, besides being in the business for more than 15. Still people just complain. The fact that waves has reached out to him to do these videos is just a way to tipping their hat to someone who they think could help them market their product. Im pretty sure that he's been using their stuff for quite a while, he's said it on a number of his own tutorials. But still he straight up tells us that you don't need the expensive "gear" to get a great mix. A person in his position, with the kind of audience he has on his own will always be reached by the big boys (waves) when they see an opportunity to market their stuff. I still think that, as he has always said, you can make music sound great with the stock plugins on your daws. I will always appreciate what he does on TRR, taking the time to share his knowledge. Heres to making better music, now.

    Edgar, could not agree with you more. Some people will never be pleased no matter what one does. Graham has helped many of us reach our goal to create music with very limited resources. Graham has been instrumental and has literally speaking created a "Recording Revolution".

    For me this video omits the crucial information of HOW does one even put plugins onto a master bus vs putting plugs on an individual track. The other monster thing is that the adjustments being made here are so subtle that I almost cannot hear them at all and can only notice the improvements because you point them out as being improvements - so it convinces me that I should not ever consider mixing anything ever.

    I didn't want to watch this but it's very good. The tape sounds more like "glue" to me than the SSL which is typically described that way. I'm hearing the compression as adding punch, if not a bit of level in this example. The tape sounds like it's melding everything together just a bit. Thanks.

    Why do you change the dynamics of the whole mix before touching the tracks one by one? İ mean,İ'll have to bypass all the plugins on the master channel when mixing tracks into each other,if İ start like this.Of course this is my point of view,İ just want to know the idea behind this.A good mix is a good mix at the end no matter how you do it and what plugins you use.Thanks

    What about a limiter at the end of the chain while mixing? Is it good practice? I'm guessing you take it out prior to mastering. But is it okay?

  • @horriblemind

    @horriblemind

    4 жыл бұрын

    I'm not Waves, but if you want to bring the overall volume up for being able to hear everything better, or if you mix really hot and you're peaking over 0db then yes, use limiter at the end of the mixing chain. You can also use it for dithering your mix (if your limiter has a dithering option) when you bounce it to a single .wav track for mastering. You don't have to take it out prior to mastering, just make sure you're not slamming the mix too hard. Cheers!

    the mix doesn´t sound "master-channel-ready". it lacks everything a good mix has. even the basic levels aren´t right. i know it´s for demo purpose, but please invest some more hours in the mix. what do people learn from this video: don´t take your time on setting up a good mix, don´t work hard, just trow some plugs on the master fader.
