I have two 1988 Escort combi vans they have the 1600cc engins in. They are the same bomb proff.like the van. The one van I brought was sat up for about ten years and started streight away, The engins are easyer to do than the 1800cc, the cam belt can be done by me in around 3/4 of an hour, it has only one belt as opposed to the two on the 1800. Love the way your engine was not bouncing all around the floor there. Cheers pete

We used to have a 1.8D Ford Escort Popular van and this engine is an absolute work horse and loads of torque a great engine although a sod to start sometimes, had to keep on the glow plugs a few times lol.

those old ford 1.8 diesels are bullet proff and run on almost anything! they just dont die!

Had one of these in a Fiesta, ran it for 20k and took it for a MOT, and it took 3Litres of oil to make it read on there temp probe. One engine I completely forgot to maintain - bulletproof engines!

engines out live the cars. the endura diesel is very good not alot of power but used all the way focus era

The engine doesn't care about the car. It just needs fuel, park and if run for more than a couple of minutes, coolant.

would it not make sense to not use throttle to start it? its not a petrol plus it should start with no throttle. these engines are pretty solid

Most prima engines end up in boats and land rovers u know! The turbo ones r good. I just got a 1.8 diesel fiesta with bosch fuel pump, oh that 60bhp pulls like a...mouse!

Oil and cambelt change these engines will outlive the vehicle.

U can have them modified for about £600!!! I belive u can use a twin tank system but veg must be over 45 degrees C and pump must be hot, u have to purge pump before shutdown. Mind u veg oil can even kill bosch pumps eventually by varnish build up seizing rotor head, additives can prevent this evidently.

Looks a lot like the endura DE, had one in the fiesta, good old engine. Can u adjust the rav limiters? how high can u run the engine b4 it keels over? great stuff mate.

be good to put this in a mk1 or2 escort or any model cortina.

The lucas pumped ones die on veg oil! Pump rotor head siezes! Still, my favourate engine type! Ford developed it with deutz or mercedes (same thing?) evidently, well the 1.6 origional.

Keep pumping primer when airlocked these pumps can be buggers! R u selling engine or keeping it? My mates escort needs new head.

Best engine ford ever made have a fiesta van with that engine runs on the smell of diesel not a lot of power but will run for ever don't make them like that any more

How about a intercooled prima, with uprated pump and boost in a mk2 escort?!! Or even this engine? I always wanted to do such a retro fit.

no bleed a high line after hte pump is primed or else you will just compress air nad never reach the super high psi needed to open an injector

car only weighs 900kg though, will do 90mpg and get 60mpg! Has the same engine as the one in the video in fact!
