I think people really do miss the point of these videos. It's not to say that you will have these exact things with you to do this exact thing. It's more to inspire people to be creative with finding ways to do things in the wild, especially when you don't have the proper gear all the time. You're not going to have a store-bought apple with you when you are desperate for a fire, but the point is that there are lots of means to make fire, combining things that you might have on you and things that you can find. You might not plan to have a broken lighter, but it's pretty common for lighters to lose all their fuel when stored due to the button being pressed down the entire time, unless you've specifically prepared it to not do that (which most people don't). But you can also just run out of fuel, or find a discarded bic as trash. You might not have paper, but you can find a leaf, or catch the ferro dust with a cotton ball or something. The point is to not follow this like it's a tutorial, but as inspiration to be creative. Maybe you just want to screw around and try a fun way to start a fire once. Or maybe it's something that could save your life. It's the mindset. But I guess it's more fun to just dismiss everything that isn't directly applicable to every situation.

The ferrocerium rod (the black rod inside the lighter, under the flint wheel) makes the lighter's spark, and is actually a really good firestarter. This can really introduce a healty dose of fuel into the mix to help with the early process, like the video, and then you can start adding small pieces or shavings of wood or paper 😊

That's interesting! I have eaten many different raw garden apples from small crops of some folks, but none have that thick wax and "shinnynes", they are also smaller. It's interesting because there is little wax on them, also more the newer they are of if they are green apples, so I ve come to the conclusion that it's more likely to be because of been genetically selected(genetically modified) to enhance features of the fruit that make it more appealing, but also last longer on the shelf. By thickening the wax from the skin it makes it shinier and the bigger layer of skins preserves the fruit better from the outside ;)

Be prepared or don't go.. 3 do y'all really think it's that uncommon to take snacks with you on a hike? Apples are a great choice, other than a sticker, zero waste. That apple core is fine to leave wherever you finish it.. 4 even if you don't smoke, it's a really good idea to have a lighter while camping or such, they take up very little space/weight. Even if it dies or breaks, it is still useful, as demonstrated here
