Starfield Doesn’t Suck, Your Imagination does! / Starfield / Let’s Play EP: 1

Ойындар

This is my first attempt at let’s play for Starfield. I have much love for this game, but it seems like the gaming community has nothing but I’ve vendetta against Starfield for whatever reason. Needless to say I complain a lot about people and their expectations for Bethesda games. I love Starfield and there isn’t enough content on KZread about Starfield so I’m here to fill the gap even if it’s not good or entertaining I at least I’m making Starfield videos because I love it genuinely even if they don’t get any views thank you for watching if you’ve made it thsis far into the description then please like and subscribe or comment below. Let me know what you love and hate about Starfield. All are welcome until next time a smile!

Sorry, I'm STILL enjoying this game; I'm now lvl 117 and STILL haven't done ANY of the Main Quest; I've simply enjoyed the experience of discovering, playing, learning... just ENJOYING the experience... Honestly, a good part of the so-called 'hate' is just Playstation fans' 'proxy battle' with Microsoft for MS having been smart enough to buy Bethesda's parent company Zenimax before Sony could buy Bethesda... Starfield has so many different experiences, and is just a plain beautiful game... If you think about it, Bethesda easily could have created a complete game just on a single planet, they are so huge... The fact that there are actually almost 1,700 planets, etc give us endless options and opportunities for expansion and discovery... I think people are so used to 'instant gratification' and 'impress me' right away, that they view as a negative experience having to at times WORK, STUDY and LEARN in order to advance an aspect of a game; a perfect example: Shipbuilding - I absolutely hated it and it's implementation, until I literally decided one day that I was going to sit down, see youtube videos and force myself to learn it... now I absolutely LOVE shipbuilding and have a collection of ships from 'endgame fighters' to an awesome Razorleaf rebuilt that looks like the Batwing, to a massive Outpost Creation/freighter that holds 30,000!! Just did the UC/Crimson Fleet storyline and am so happy that (spoilers!) the Crimson Fleet survives/can survive even if you take Delgado and The Key down (the conversation with Delgado in the brig is eye-opening)... There are so MANY twists and surprises (and emotional gut-punches) if you just explore and discover... As it was so aptly put, 'The more you put into Starfield, the more it gives you back'... Thanks for the video... CAN'T WAIT to see the Va'Ruun backstory in the future DLC (also, MORE CRIMSON FLEET PLEASE!)

@@thewhizbang Thank you Whiz! 😄 UPDATE: Now lvl 119, thought I was getting CLOSER to doing the Main Storyline.. however, I got started learning to build outposts and, after a few hours struggle(😅), I'm hooked!! Just the planning and execution of sophisticated Outposts, Inter-stellar Cargo Links, the assignment of crew and then planning out the defenses of your Outposts is a game within itself! People complain that Bethesda left the game too 'empty'; no, they've given players an unimaginably MASSIVE galaxy to build and create in for YEARS... Really hoping the Creation program comes SOON ..!!

I love playing this huge, fun detailed, game. I think it looks gorgeous and the “empty” worlds are hugely atmospheric. I think you are right about people’s needs and expectations and it’s not so much a lack of imagination but I think these folks do not use their imagination at all but rather they engage with the game purely on face value. I hope you can be bothered reading this but I understand if you don’t, it’s super long. I believe what you’re highlighting goes hand-in-hand with a theory I have about the negativity that I really believe in. If Todd and Pete stopped 100% being old-school 80s style salesmen and always giving those awkward time-share style presentations where they gently infer that their next game is the best the world has seen and if instead? If instead they proudly 100% presented their games honestly including all the foibles like perfectly describing instancing, there would be no platform for at least 80% of the post release hate they get. Because while you and I might maintain realistic expectations, thousands of people seem to completely believe their hype every time and every time they’re shocked and every time they feel that they were misled. Bethesda need to recognise this and they need to be 100% proud of their games 100% realistically. Todd and Pete are salesman and they just can’t help prevaricating and insinuating that their product is The Greatest and their sales method needs to go. I love the game and I would have loved it no matter how it was presented but a combination of the expectations and needs and limited imaginations you’ve described combined with these customers always expecting to that the game will match the hype endlessly bamboozles thousands of consumers all the time. A lot of people don’t role play anymore, they play the game simply for the mechanism it is and do not involve their imaginations and these folks would have nothing to say if the game was promoted 100% honestly. But brother, I love the game too. It’s crazy! So huge and beautiful and insane! Like being inside a stage play with a giant budget🤓

@hectorm.a4868 I was trying to say that you were making a false equivalence. The issue with Starfield isn't that its systems are too complex and require time and skill to learn how to play it. The issue is that the game feels like a walking simulator with inventory management and heavy amounts of fake dialogue options. Those things aren't universally considered fun.

What I wanted and expected was another huge open world BGS-style sandbox experience. And that's what I got. For sure, their games don't feel as modern in certain aspect or look as pretty, but man the insane amount of content and gameplay systems in 1 package make up for that. They are unique, almost a genre of its own. That's not to say Starfield isn't without flaws or that no one can be disappointed with it for solid reasons, but I'm satisfied.. and honestly that is the only thing that matters to me.

My imagination is fine thank you. My biggest problem with Starfield is, for a game about exploration and discovery we only do 1 ground breaking discovery in the game and that is the Unity. everything else is already discovered and already catalogued in the universe, all the star systems are on the map, there is no cosmic hazards like nebulae or black holes, no uncharted planets, hell discovering the planetary perks literally means nothing, even all the life forms on all the planets are technically already discovered before we touch down since 99% of the planets have been colonized or have/had an outpost on them. So yeah main selling plot of the game kinda sucks, because i dont consider finding the exact same research lab, with the exact same layout, with the exact same "unique" notes, emails, and audio logs on 500 different planets to be a lack of my imagination. The rest of the game is just standard post Skyrim Bethesda design you either like it or you dont. Personally i like it more than i hate it but not by a large margin.

I have played all the big space sims a fair bit and I think Starfield is pretty good to be fair. It’s biggest strength compared to others I think is it’s flow your always doing something. I see a lot moan about Space travel but then if you look at Elite Dangerous who has all that you get awful lot of people moaning they get bored travelling, so I think it is good to have those differences between the space games as if got busy life and only a hour or two spare Starfield would be the one I’d suggest to you of all of them.

A couple of months after I put skyrim down I wanted to go back. Same with fallout. I do not feel the same about Starfield, and I know I’m not the only one who feels that way. The hype they put into this game- “this is the game I’ve wanted to make since I was young”, the best description I can use for this game is “UNDERWHELMING”. It’s actually kind of ironic also, because a game w this scope has zero business being underwhelming. Another sad thing about this game is I don’t see any effort from the devs coming out to give us a long term roadmap, stating “we’ll add vehicles by x date”, or any other equality of life features that would make the game enjoyable. There are sooo many little things holding this game back, it’s not just 1 thing. It’s the 30 little things that together make up the most underwhelming Bethesda experience to date. Pretty damn frustrating as a major Bethesda fan, they have definitely lost good will with a large portion of their fan base.

Admittedly, I am using some quality of life and reshading mods while I play Starfield...because I always mod moddable games. But I really enjoy Starfield so far. Bethesda RPGs have something special, a kind of personality and a charm, that has me playing them more than games that are clearly more sophisticated in terms of graphics, gameplay, or technology. Once Bethesda finally releases official mod support, it's going to be a gamechanger. I can't wait.

I also enjoy this game, almost 400 hours in I beat the game and am looking at end game stuff to do. I think people hating should just move on and just not play it if they don't like it. I think at launch there was already a build up of negativity some people were creating, some warranted but not all of it. I think the game is really good. But I do wish some things were better (or just more intuitive). Somethings that are more endgame and have been better in some of their other games that I find surprising they didn't just bring into this game. I like that Starfield is its own thing, but some things like camp building, resource management and crafting which is great in Fallout and Fallout 76, are not as good in Starfield, in my opinion. We've also already had mounts so why not have a vehicle at launch. If they are able to do it all of a sudden, I think it should have been there at release. Overall, however, I like the game and I see a lot of potential in it. Both in future updates, DLC and community mods. I believe Starfield will have a long lifespan.

My main disappointment with starfield is the base building, theres such a small amount of variety in buildings compared to fallout and its hard to let your imagination run free. That was the main thing i enjoyed about FO4 and 76. The ship building is okay, the gun modding is meh and most guns feel like nerf guns, and i half expect to see orange darts poking out of some. I thought they would have learned after giving us the war crime that is pipe weapons. Bethesda has been shooting themselves with the amount of projects theyve been having active at once, theyre clearly being overworked in some areas and i think Starfield has quite obviously been neglected because of it. Thank you for making this video, im glad to see some positive content on starfield for a change

And there’s a lot more competition now with rpgs like cyberpunk and bg3 who do things a lot better than starfield. Bethesda needed a game like this to smack them in the face to realize (hopefully) that maybe we need to update our formula for our next games.

I believe in time the same will happen with Starfield where mod creators can literally create entire settlements, ships, quest, NPC's and so much more. It is modders that make bethesda games so amazing! If you haven't played Skyrim with 2-3k mods on a good PC you are missing out. I would recommend LoreRim and Nolvus absolutely incredible modlist and experience's.

Dude, Starfield is baller. The more I play it, the less I understand the hate. Last night, I spent a while in New Homestead on Titan, moon of Saturn. I learned about its composition, resources, how humans might gather them, and lore in the setting. Still had time to go to Mars, take out a group of evil space mercs to rescue a scientist who will help in defeating big xenowarfare monsters. 340 hours in, still not bored. I'll be mean to the haters, too. People have complained about not being able to land on a gas giant, and that there aren't radio shows across 50 lightyears of space, and that's before they go to a barren moon for no reason and run in a straight line in a lame attempt to show how boring it is. Oh - and lying to their viewers about game engine features for attention and clicks. I think the main problem is not Starfield, it's the audience's reading level.

Its really not about the grind like other titles. One of the biggest problems I have with the game right now are some of the members of constellation are just downright boring. Second biggest problem is the economy seems a little skewed and selling items can become time consuming instead of being seamless - we need more fun options to spend credits instead of ship building. Third and last problem is having to do all the temple mini-games all over again during NG+. It should be that if a temple power has been obtained you can just open the door to the temple and the cinematic begins. I have tons of hours in this game and really learned to appreciate it for what it is. Like I said before, it'll only get better from here with added DLC. Great video, thanks for your input!

There's nothing wrong with subjectively liking a game that is objectively a step, or many steps really, back from previous Bethesda titles. I have games on Steam with hundreds of hours of playtime that were not highly received or had poor launches and I have really enjoyed them. However, I don't pretend that because I subjectively enjoy them that they are objectively good or quality games. Nor do I feel the need to convince other people that the game I enjoy that is objectively bad is objectively good. That being said I hope you continue to enjoy your experience.

The game has a great foundation for modding, but I coulda sworn they said they would be releasing the creation Kit for Starfield within a few months of release (by Jan?) and yet we're in May now and Starfield has barely any modding community left, cause they didn't release the creation kit. Once that's out, there will be a boom in interest and in modding. I'm hoping its out with the first DLC. If you're interested, check out the modded Starfield vids on my channel. Which is fine to be fair to them, everyone is entitled to their opinion! But man, i fell in love with this game the first time i built a ship that looked cool & unique, but also like it'd really exist in this universe. Had a great interior layout, flies nicely etc. From there i started to get starfield more & more. Eventually i even figured out outpost building!!! Most of it really don't deserve I am not a "casual" player, tons of hours in BG3, Cyberpunk and more of great recent titles that seem to do everything better than Starfield. But not setting expectations, just go for it and play how you should play (don't play it like NMS lol, cause it's not) and you will have a lot of fun. Yeah, the main story could be more grand, the game has issues, but cmon what other game let you build a freaking Rosinante from Expanse and hunt pirates as a UC special force, dealing with more delicate UC problems, cmon now. I am at 760 hours and on my second playthrough (to pick the traits I learned I liked on my first pt). First playthrough I did all the missions, this playthrough I am building my character through other means like exploring. This newer character is also way tougher than the first one mainly because I know what skills to train now. I've found SF to be a lot more challenging than a lot of other games, which may chase away a lot of other players. I liken the haters to someone who hates pickles so they boycott McD's. A lot of the complaints I've heard are actually things I like about SF, go figure.

Starfield was fine, solid 7/10. I'm glad people love it, but I'll never understand why. I have 2500+ hours in NMS since Day1, I actually have 800 hours in SF (built a lot of glitch ships). Is it beautiful? Sort of... How many of those beautiful screenshots have either: A) A Shining Sun, or B) A Ringed Planet... Have you modded Skyrim? I'm not being negative, I just wish, we as longtime fans held Bethesda to a higher standard. Would people feel the same way if EA or UbiSoft had made this? I wasn't disappointed, I'm a Day1 NMS, Anthem, FU'76 player. I liked all of them. I will forever remember the first time I heard; "Wake up, we're here. Why are you shaking?" I hope in time, Bethesda puts in the work to make SF worth loving. Hello Games are heroes. PS: The Moon was so boring, Michael Collins couldn't even be bothered to set foot on it.

I finally found someone that actually loves this game, I honestly love this game to death. As someone who gets hella into the role playing side of the game and voice acts for all my characters and their different personalities it’s an ass load of fun. My pirate character is up there with one of my favorite play throughs in a Bethesda game of all time and I love that for once it is actually rewarding to play “the bad guys” so to speak. If I had one gripe it would probably be that there aren’t enough in depth followers at the moment but I wouldn’t be surprised if modders came through and made a load of them. All in all, Bethesda through and through 10/10. Already around 700 hours or so between 4 saves lol

Also, like you were saying about playing the pirate. The biggest draw for me is running my character like it’s One Piece lol, my goal is to have the highest bounty possible in the settled systems and my “missions” I set for my character are things like taking on the entire UC fleet above Jemison/ New Atlantis. It’s a blast seeing how far I can take a non overpowered ship and watching that bounty rise. Currently sitting at around 4.5 million in the UC. Like you said, the “good guys” take the place of the pirates. So rather than being attacked by the crimson fleet in certain places, the UC navy jumps in and attacks me instead.

I had another play through of Cyberpunk 2077 going, but I felt the need to give Starfield another go and another approach. And then Final Fantasy Rebirth came out and I gave that a try for awhile before going back to Starfield. What I need is release date for Shattered Space. If it's later in the year, I think I will set the game aside and continue other games, but if it's this summer, I might just continue playing. I recently started a brand new character to play out my new approach to the game.

I am about 200 hours in and i have not gotten past like two missions after getting Andreja. im serious. my group of 20+ does domestic terrorist attacks on big cities and small. permadeath enabled. Roleplaying as the ceo of paradiso, literally oliver campbell. (got rid of real oliver through console) Also took over paradiso and placed unlimited storage crates in my player home areas. my group of 20+ makes money off of looting bodies (100% of loot drops) and harvesting bodies to sell organs to the trade authority. we kill for money directly as a game loop. i manage my followers depleating ammo (expensive) and equipment, keep them from being killed in battle, and pay them a salary. survival mode is enabled (eat, sleep, drink) The idea is to make the settled systems dangerous and drive wealthy people towards paradiso. have an imagination, guys. Im waiting for more traversal options too, but as an old no mans sky player im fine with not being able to fly off of planets (it gets old). for now im cool with modded animation replacements and a modded jetpack. all travel is fun with a whole gang in matching starborn spacesuits. 90% of my poi's are populated with nonrepetitive enemies that have good AI and ammo limits. Stealth is viable (even with a group) Im not rushing through the game because we have plentyyyy of time until es6. Im going to enjoy this while its brand new and offers me surprises. And permadeath for all characters is an awesome concept with the multiverse. you can kill a sidequest essential character and then come back in the unity and do that sidequest you missed. THAT is replay value and adds gravity to death.

Not hating on the game, hating on ANY developer that releases games when they know there not ready for release. There is nothing wrong with holding them accountable for releasing the mess it was, there is something wrong with just excepting it as normal. Eight years this game was in development, it should have released almost bug free at the minimum. I like the game, but its more of the same like you pointed out, all Bethesda releases are very buggy. Many have complained they are just stuck in the past, they are not innovating. The way they ignore their community is telling, people are busy. Buying a game that is an unplayable mess, then not patching it for months until well after those people have moved on is unprofessional. Eight years... is an eternity in gaming.

Just type in "Once Lost" and "Wayward Realms" for the preview trailers. I am doing my part typing this out. You should pass on the info as well. More hype encourages them to work harder and faster and put more effort into it. In the meantime we have Daggerfall Unity to play while this is being developed.

It does have flaws and the critics are not wrong about them, but the hate is unwarranted. It may be that all those who got into open world RPG were ones that started at Oblivion. But prior to Oblivion and Morrowind you had Daggerfall which had the same feel of a Starfield with lots of open and empty space in the overworld. They are used to open world maps being cluttered with stuff that is mashed really close together. (like Morrowind onwards) They want "hand crafted content" and what they mean there is no procudeural generation. However for a space game procedural generation is inevitable due to the sheer vastness of space. This is one of the reason people didn't like Starfield since as a space game towns and interesting places have to be spread apart long distances making the overall "world" seem boring and empty. But in reality its the same as other bethesda games but seperated by a lot of empty space. (which is understandable because it's a space rpg) The overall reason to not like it: they are used to smaller maps with all the fun stuff packed into tiny spot. Not a game where the world has the interesting things spread so far.
