Consumer tech had just reached the point where digital music media had good performance, quality, and cost - decent soundcards, codecs, playback software, mp3 formats, cheap storage, etc. So the top game studios from this era invested a lot into recording their own music and sound fx. Which have since become the cheesed audio resources cheap untalented modern devs steal, clone, or mod into their own releases. Talented musicians and foley artists can still be found. It's the people making the games who don't care anymore.

I played a pirated version of Quake for years, so I got the sound effects but no music. When I first fired up Quake with a soundtrack, I was blown away. It makes such a huge difference. It's the same for movies. Watch "Star Wars without Williams" to see just how much the music makes the movie- kzread.info/dash/bejne/hp5hqbyDmMmonaw.html. It's absolutely an underrated bit of game/movie production.

When explaining how Starcraft worked, I would explain the races as this: "The Terran are humans like us. The Protoss are like aliens, but they are peaceful, and have sheilds, making them extremely hard to kill later on ( If you played Custom Games, you would understand. You had to take them out before they took you out.). And the Zerg, are like Zombies but they can heal over time. Once I beat the Campaign, I started playing Custom Games, with all the cheats, except the one that made you invincible, because 1. I don't remember any of the good missions. 2. Some are really stressful, Lol! But the reason I made this is because I wanted people to tell me their memories, so yeah, thanks for reading up to this point.

The briefing room musics are the best. The protoss one feels so desperate which fits the story perfectly. The human one is of a disturbing future which could also be in any fallout game and the zerg one is just fucking sinister.

I like the vanilla starcraft human themes. It has a "keep trucking" Human industrial development and expansion vibe. The music of optimistic human progress, with a nod to hard work and risk. Then the brood war themes a significantly more dire, like that optimism has been ripped away as the human colonists are surrounded by piles of skulls.

I'll never be as good at a game again as I was at this. Although I played every race, Zerg was my favorite and every time I got that "Zerg 1" song, I was SOOOOOO HAPPY... the intro is so majestic, a victorious vision of Zerg dominance - and part 2 of the "Zerg 1" song, more glory. And "Terran 1" @ 26:25 begin another glorious piece to do battle to

For example, the term zerging is still being used in many other games. referencing to the zergling rushes. Ahh... the memories of the defeats and victories.. :) when listening to the OSTs, I sometimes can't help but imagine seeing my younger self infront of the computer, playing SC with my cousins at times, with my uncle or dad.. even playing and replaying the campaign when I was older and understood more. Terran 3... The song brings so many memories... I'd just wait until that song came on during the campaign then freeze, and not do anything at all so I could listen to it uninterupted! If I had it my way, SC 2 would have the original SC soundtrack the way it was in original, not remastered versions... But, the remastered versions are good too.

6 years old I know but for those that might not be aware. You can turn the old music on and play with it in SC2. If its not the original I couldn't tell Ill have to pay more attention.
