It’s nice to see someone finally using hydralisks as a Timing push.

You came out with a video awhile ago of drop lings and i got to almost 70% win rate with protoss, since the patch ive dropped down to 50 with the new stalkers. Pretty excited to try this build out. Ty lowko :)

Your opponent didn't scout. Did he really think he could go double forge, almost 0 units, nothing out on the map? It's a cheesy timing push, but if you're essentially giving up map control, you can expect shenanigans.

I've been doing this build since hots. Except I've also added an overseer timing where i can contaminate 3-5 times while attacking.

I downloaded sc2, practiced a bit, saw a few youtube vids, refined a build, im in diamond after 2 weeks of playing lol in solo ranked

Hey Lowko, did you inspire this hydras push in the SC1 experiences? I did play SC1 and hydras was just awsome and fun for rushes...

Hey Lowko, now that void rays are so present in the current meta because of their buff, do you think this build would be even more useful nowadays? And would you recommend going for an evo chamber or two as well around the same time as starting lair so the timing has a bit more of a punch to it or is it preferable to just have more units earlier?

His comment looks familiar about the amove hydra... I could have sworn I saw that phrase thrown around in Wing of Liberty.

so it's essentially a HotS style muta opener, but instead of a more expensive spire into hit and run mutas, cheaper HD into smash open the gate. Good build really punishes toss going golden armada. Think I'll start playing again and push into master 1 again

Will this be okay vs terran or zerg up to gold league, do you think? I play random & it's hard to try to have 9+ builds. But I really like hydra play.

This will be hell for protoss after the quad nerf...

Are those the war chest season 2 zerg skins?

As a protoss i play standard IACS against every zerg and if I'm not successfully cheesed, I found no difficulties in dealing with anything they throw at me (plat 2-3). I'm not an expert, but I think with chargelots and batteries you can stay strong against any ground pressure, untill you get two archons, immortal and +1 +1. And after this you just A move:)

If the toss stays on 2 bases attacking as soon as you have the hydra upgrade is important. If you wait, the toss will tech up and melt your hydras with immortals, colossus or even carriers.

I have a replay that I think would make an ok video. I play as Zerg (I tried to be as pro as I could be)

Works good vs low level terron too

I unlocked ranked silver tier2 protos this week but i have no idea how to counter this as protos. I lost to it once. usualy stalker + colossi should work but most games if no hydra or no big ling threat colossi feel pretty useless most of the time. also if hydra + lurker timing is very hard to deal with if they snipe observers/cannons (wich wont even fight are there just for detection).

when will you start wings of liberty?

I do a slower variety of this: I lurker/hydra nydus in his main around 30 seconds later. If I scout the trappings of an early push I skip the nydus. If the one “doom nydus” fails, I can nydus from third to main to natural to defense at will. It works well in plat and below :3

I have a question. I play SC with a group of friends who are all around the same skill level. I'm the only Zerg player, and I can consistently win against all my friends except one. He's a Terran player who almost always rushes with MMM. I don't know how to prepare a proper defense in the early game, and even if I defeat his first push, Marines just keep running accross the map. What should I do?

I am a terran but will try to help.Depending on how early he begins to attack(i.e with fast steam or before that) you can either go for roaches in the openinq into roach-hydra which is easy to overextend against or just ling baneling hydra into ultras.Don't hestitate to use some static defense as it will buy you time.

i'd be cool if you would also teach us what would you do as a protoss player. how would you deal with this kind of strategy. you told us the opponent's mistakes and you also told us against what this build struggle with but you didn't tell us what would you do as a toss player if you were able to scout it while going for a standard macro play. how would you react?

This is why you need to scout and don't be greedy (1.8 k on protoss bank on video lol). Once it is a macro games = get good. Protoss is macro heavy.

First of all, more shit counters less shit. The toss player in the game had like no units, zerg had 118 supply, protoss had 78 with at least 53 probes (25 army supply) and wasn't spending his money. Hydras make a lot of damage, but are light units and were hydras alone, no banes and almost no lings so maybe you can start with scouting and making a shit ton chargelots or glaive adepts.

Kind of curious, why do protoss players put up that Cybernetics core as part of a wall? When it gets sniped that tends to be such a pain in the ass.

Paulo Prieto early on its like a choice thing either they focus the wall and ignore the range unit getting free hits on the unit or.... focus on the unit with only 2 lings hitting course with range might be a different story

Honestly same reason some zerg make the natural their lair (if you loose Nat=gg so why not make it have more hp); if toss looses wall in early game we loose anyways so might as well include cyber for faster and cheaper wall

quick carriers should counter it, 7 minute is the time you can have few of them, also put some cannons and batieries in the front should buy some time to rebuild interceptors , i counter it many times succesfuly, of course I dont know are my diamond opponents are as great as you :)

2 queens with no energy for transfuse does not exactly defend the natural that well against 2 oracles.. since you can't pull that 3rd queen out of main.

he scouted that his opponent went nexus first and he delayed his spores on purpose for more income since it's impossible to get 3 min-ish Oracle with expand first

Well, you do not build a third base without any army, especially being Protoss vs Marine or Zerg. When assault came, Protoss had 1000 & 500 in ressources.

He was floating a lot of minerals and gas. That could have been a nice army.

Because you have to attack as quickly as possible since in this timing attack you dont attack with upgrades. So if you saturate the 3rd first, this times gives the enemy to get more upgrades done, and more counters to the hydras like collosus.

Thanks for the response. I understand that you want to hit before any kind of high tech that would counter your push. I was just wondering why Lowko seemed to emphasise the 51 drones and what about this number of drones seems to be important. Couldn't you do that with 49 ? with 50 ? I'm low rank, so I'm really geniounly asking :)

I tried this, (poorly excuted i believe), and got rolled by an earlier push by the toss consisting of stalkers, sentries anda few immortals. with +1 att/shields. all at like 7/8min. Like what

Just played against an attempted cannon rush, and before that an attempted DT rush, and before that late game toss playing defensively with 18 Shield Batteries - "just don't let toss get to late game brah". Fuck Protoss, no offence.

If you're playing defensive you must master scouting. Overlord placement at key points across the map is crucial. I recommend playing 5 games vs AI (very Easy) on every map just before you ladder to familiarize yourself with safe locations to put your overlords that can spot incoming drops, proxy's, and timing pushes. Winter recommends placing your first five overlords in these places. Typically you want to put the overlord in a space where infantry can't reach them and over a piece of high ground so they can't be seen by infantry unless they have air units. Once you do that its just a matter of glancing at the minimap whenever you perform an action at your base. Whenever I inject, for example, I'm not looking at the queen I'm looking at the mini map where I placed my overlords. Same thing with most of my other macro. Lings with speed are good for holding the Xel naga towers. if you research burrow you can burrow lings across the map to scout instead if the enemy decides to make Air units to hunt down your overlords.

This basically means that by doing this you end up winning 80-90% of the games regardless what your opponent does? fuf... seems kinda broken I'm sure that there's something to stop this... if not...

The counter is scouting and applying early pressure. Zerg is skipping roach warren and baneling nest to hit this timing, if you (as the toss) started throwing out a bunch of quick adept/chargelot pressure, it would be very hard for the zerg to deal with

Yea I mean that could work, but at the end most of the lather won't be able to do it without end in an all in... I'm not so preoccupied but the comments of Lowko about the "extent" of the viability of this seems that it could be a bit off...
