    I genuinely suspect that the impetus for this was someone on their corporate board (the type of guy who calls himself an “ideas man” and NOT anyone from their actual product r&d team) was like, “Hey! Bulletproof coffee has been really trendy for the past decade. We need an answer for that! We need to have something like that on our menu, with an oil that’s a lot cheaper for us but that people still think is healthy.” It’s a VERY bad idea, to be sure, but I really feel like this had to have been the origin point of the idea. Anything else is honestly too insane.

    Allegedly, this happened because someone on the higher rungs on the corporate ladder went on vacation in the Mediterranean and got inspired to put olive oil in coffee based on that. Thats it. A overpaid idiot with way to much influence basically told RnD to put olive oil in their coffee and the people with actual qualifications who knew it was a literal shit idea just had to do it.

    Not just that 1) it was the CEO, 2) he claimed he learned it was from some local Italian tradition of putting olive oil in your coffee. Such a tradition does not exist -- every Italian is calling him out as making stuff up, 3) pretty much the only reason this product exists is because he did some under-the-table partnership with an olive oil company. Making business was a priority in making this, not actually making a good product.

    @neraslight4997 I found out what the main idea behind this atrocity possibly is. So there's this trend of putting MCT oil in coffee, right? It's not a new idea. People have put butter in their coffee, too. The reason is that it's filling, which is great for when you don't have the time (or the food) to eat in the morning. ...and that's when some bozo thought "mct oil, olive oil, whatevs. People will buy that!" And they were right. People will buy anything.

  • @Mythraen

    @Mythraen

    3 ай бұрын

    @@ingasparrow Not sure where you got that from, but the reason I found is because in Italy, they have a tradition of eating a spoonful of olive oil in the morning, and they also like coffee, and someone got the idea to combine them. And yes... I am contradicting my above comment.. if you incorrectly assume someone can do something for only one reason.

It was first an Italy/Seattle/NYC exclusive item, and then quite recently it became an item available all across America. No, I don’t know why. Spaniard here, average consumer of coffee, I love extra virgin Olive Oil in a salad or in bread, I can confirm that, in fact, this is the stupidest idea they ever had. My grandma used to ingest a spoon of Olive Oil to alleviate constipation WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING.
