This is my favorite Star Wars video on the internet. Most Star Wars analysis videos mainly just focus on the movies at face value without delving into the influences of it.

Man, I wish they stuck with just the 6 movies. Return of the Jedi was the perfect ending. They didn't need to do anything after that. The Prequels were necessary, but poorly executed in some areas. The Clone Wars were good too.

I didn't grow to love these films until I was a teenager, myself. At the end of the day, for me, these films are about a son who risks everything to save his father. And a father who ultimately gives everything to save his son. That why I resent the idea that they are considered "kids movies". They aren't even good at being kids movies.

Still one of my favorite reviews of Star Wars.

When I was in film school discussions often crossed over to something that happened in Star Wars, because there was so much content packed into those original films that could be drawn from.

I'm still bummed about the fact that you can't get the unruined version of ROTJ on bluray.

Someone took the Blu-Ray's and actually re-edited them to be like the originals. It's great.

The original Star Wars or Episode IV: A New Hope, is my favorite film of all time. I got to see Return of the Jedi in the theater for its 40th anniversary and it was amazing. Missed out on Empire because the times they had it showing changed and a lot of people were driving stupider than normal in 2020, so I wasn’t able to make it to that one. I hope they’ll release IV and V again during my life time so I can see them on the big screen.

It really should have just been the three movies. Hopefully one day we can actually get official releases of the theatrical cuts on 4K.

@@bigkmoviesandgames The prequels had problems for sure, but they still contributed a lot to the Star Wars universe as a whole. The Sequel Trilogy just felt like an Original Trilogy 2.0 that flip-flops between cynicism and slapstick. But there's a lot of great Legends material besides the OT. For example, the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games are the best Star Wars media since the OT. And the prequels did give us Episode I Racer, Republic Commando, and two awesome Clone Wars cartoons (both the 2003 micro-series and the 2008 movie and TV series).

Jame Rolfe born July 10 1980 remembers seeing Return of the Jedi and Mr. Mom the same year. He was 3 years old.

Episodes 4 and 5 were great, but I felt episode 6 was a lackluster finale. The space battle of Endor was good, but there are a few things I would have changed in the film to make it much better.

I feel like the really important figure that really made Episode's 4 and 5 great was Gary Kurtz he was the reason those films turned out the way they did and he and Lucas clashed over how to progress with the series after Episode 5 he once said that after Raiders of the Lost Ark came out in 1981 it was the turning point where George Lucas became convince that all the audience cared about was the "Roller Coaster Ride Experience" so the story to him doesn't matter anymore and Episode 6 was originally gonna be different to how Lucas changed like it was originally gonna feature the death of Han Solo and much darker and also Lucas changed the emphasis on storytelling to prioritizing toy merchandising he even said this "I could see where things were headed. The toy business began to drive the empire. It's a shame. They make three times as much on toys as they do on films. It's natural to make decisions that protect the toy business but that's not the best thing for making quality films."

If episode 1 through 3 had been written competently Anakin might have been a tragic hero but as presented in that kindergarten crap that we got, he's just a straight up villain from beginning to end.

I'm one of the few that actually liked the Midi-chlorian explanation, because i wanted to know where the Force came from, and mostly to kinda lean towards Sci-Fi, instead of the Fantasy magic, but the sequels made it magic again. It doesn't matter that much, Star Wars just never was heavy on the science part, it's not what it is made for. I wonder if we'll ever see a movie where R2-D2 and C3P0 die, if so, i will definitely be crying if that happens, i just know it.

I would agree with you if episode 6 was just as great as 4 and 5, but I honestly didn’t like 6. My vote for best film series goes to Lord of the Rings.

When I was a child, we had ESB and ROTJ on Betamax but we didn't have episode 4. I saw it on TV once when I was young, all I remembered was sneaking around on the death star. I still to this day remember scenes that don't actually exist, it was just me trying to remember the scenes. For example I thought a scene existed with R2D2 and c3P0 take control of all the doors and lock Han Solo out on the extension bridges with Chewie and they have to climb down the pipes and get angry with R2D2 and C3P0.

Okay so I’m really confused, I have never seen the B movie artwork that he shown us in this. I even looked it up and I couldn’t find it.

I appreciate his willingness to admit his snobbery unjustly reduced SW- I think many of us have made the same mistake in one way or another. Too bad much of the SW fandom is so toxically turned inside out... for some people, you can't even make obvious criticism.

Agreed. I would rather watch the originals than the rereleases. But I think there could be a version of the trilogy that is somewhere in the middle that could be great. Just keep some of the updated effects in space from new hope, minus all the other added shit. I have no big issues with the empire updates. Most of it is background stuff that makes cloud city feel a little bigger and more vibrant. But the changes in rotj are fucking atrocious. Give me the og all day.

This has got to be one of the best transmedia projects of all time.

Grew up watching IV through VI with my friends each week through the 90s. Remember listening to interviews with Lucas waiting for the sequels that felt like they would never come. While I didnt think I was the greatest film ever I think III is amazing. Loved sharing these movies with my children.

Onlg star wars that matter , Rey trilogy are some of the worst movies ever of any genre
