Strange New Worlds bumpy season two comes to a conclusion with an interest (and surprise) cliffhanger. Pop Tot and I had a blast reviewing this one. Let us know down in the comments below what you'd like to see us review next! Thanks as usual for your love and support. We will see you all on the next one! - Mr. Tot

I was initially so happy with _Strange New Worlds,_ but lately I've found myself feeling disappointed more often. Having *Christine* be the only survivor was almost a bridge too far for me. And that space suit moment too, as you noted.¹ I admit, the new gorns don't quite do it for me. And I have honestly tried to embrace the _Aliens™_ aspect. And I really do keep trying to ignore the idea that (as most likely know) we *first* encounter them in the _STAR TREK_ episode *"Arena."* Unfortunately, the _unknown mystery alien/possible misunderstanding_ was a primary aspect of said episode. I suppise I haven't been able to shake it becsuse I haven't felt the show hasn't introduced a better alternative. 🤷🏼‍♂️ While I enjoyed the _Lower Decks_ crossover, I was disappointed by the musical episode. And not *_because_*_ it was a musical episode._ I am totally down for that. I am very much a fan of musicals. I just felt the songs were lacking. Not terrible (thankfully). But also not memorable. And OMG, that klingon part was just outright embarrassing. 🤦🏼‍♂️ The one thing I didn't like about having *Scotty* show up actually has nothing to do with *Scotty.* It is that we had so much *James Kirk* already. *EDIT:* Oh! Almost forgot: I'm right with you and others here… *Pike's* delay was _too long,_ cliffhanger or not. I like the show. I like the crew and the actors portraying them. But I simply found myself disappointed by these past two episodes. Be well! 🙋🏼‍♂️ ··•●✺●•·· ¹ ─ Had they kept the space suits behind a panel (like each section has some, similar to life preservers), then I'd have been okay with it.

There's maybe 3 ways to do this cliffhanger. Riker's, "Fire." Or, saying yo warp them to safety and some line about getting them back. OR. STVI's "signal our surrender" and cut to black. Hailing frequencies has been done, not much tension. The Farragut showing up wouldn't work as a cut-to-black. Choosing nothing was an odd choice. Pike froze. wtf. As well, none of the bridge crew gave suggestions. Not even Una. If the next season isnt until 2025, they might do well to have a timejump, and tell part of it in flashback.

The point was that the colony was probably (accidently) really in Gorn Space and they think it could cause a debilitating war . . . . That was the point of why the Gorn attacked in Arena.

Would the Federation want to fight a war with a power like the Gorn over something that was their error? Would the rest of the Federation (Vulcans, Andorrans, Tellurites, etc.) stand by what looks like a unilateral colonial effort by Humans, made in error, against an implacable and inherently territorial foe? One Star Ship (which did not fall into Gorn hands) and 600 people appears a small price to pay to avoid a war that would have the potential to kill millions, which could be lost and which might tear the Federation apart. @@NaterTot

@@JohnMinehan-lx9ts Would the Federation of the Next Generation era want to do that? No, probably not. But this isn't that Federation. This Federation just fought a massive war with the Klingons that started when a Starfleet captain showed "weakness" and refused to respond to an obvious provocation. Is it really believable that they're going to make the exact same mistake again? Especially when in season 1 we had an episode that was all about how Pike showing weakness to the Romulans would start a war? It's lazy writing, just reusing the same trope over and over without real thought.

cool episode but yeah there were some weird decisions being made and how things played out. im loving strange new worlds but will say needed more captain pike he definitely got side lined this season and i really liked his character since he got introduced in std which i dropped since. love the gorn saw some practical fx there i think? really impressed with the cgi with strange new worlds definitely has some budget behind it or really good artists not sure. feel like some of these character development stuff needs to be two parters. like mbenga with the klingons and the whole some of the crew were in the war and had to do some serious stuff. this last episode definitely could have been a two parter for sure first half being on the planet during the gorn invasion and them trying to survive last of us zombie apocalypse style then part two be pikes team going down there, try to get back out but then cliffhanger. not sure where we going here im guessing gorn gonna do some alien breeding stuff or for whatever reason try to hold the hostages ransom against the federation idk something kinda basic.

The problem with the series is that it splits episodes up by different character. So you have to have Spock and Nurse Chapel do the same thing that Pike and Batel do. And then you have to cut back to the ship with meaningless moments with Una and Carol Kane. And then this makes the ending utterly absurd. Who is this guy Pike? Why is he unable to make a decision? Why is his girlfriend telling him what to do all the time? Of course you have to introduce yet another character, Scotty. For no reason at all It would have been far better to focus on Pike. Have him go to the planet, fight the Gorn, save Nurse Chapel or Batel. And then, when he is successful and the audience experiences all of the action and all of the character development through one character, then you can have the cliffhanger. And it would be far more interesting. It's a stupid cliffhanger but at least it would be more interesting if it happened to the person that you spend an episode telling stories about.

The part that I eye-rolled about was how they conveniently beamed a luggage trunk out of a cargo bay that magically provided them a cache of weapons that can neutralize the Gorn, who up to this time had been unbeatable. 🙄Oh, and by the way, there are luggage trunks of the same weapons secretly stored on every ship in the fleet. 🛅 How convenient.

I just wonder, in a year or two, if and or when the series returns, will the audience have simply moved on with their lives and lost the connection with this series. This episode made me angry. I felt manipulated and cheated. I have already lost 80% of my interest in it already. Honestly, the Gorn do not seem believable as a warp capable society. So, I guess we will have to see. Note to show runners. Always have a season or more extra in the can when approaching a writers or actors strike. Especially if you have something of this magnitude going.
