    Genuinely couldn't tell it was an outtake, and it absolutely should have stayed in. Incredible work as always.

    I guess they didn't want Scotty's unimpressive length to become canon.

    @@bryankehler I feel like there are two ways to take this. On the one hand, we've already established that Scotty like to tell people things (like repair estimates) are longer than they actually are. On the other hand, that's an attempt to minimize people's expectations so he can then exceed them.

    If Kirk's crew once again does time travel in the 4th film, they should go to the late 90s. Then Mister Spock can meet the Beastie Boys before they're finished writing Intergalactic.

    Cut them some slack; This was clearly the very first time any advanced civilization had thought about the idea of interfering with a radio signal

  • @Eidako

    @Eidako

    5 ай бұрын

    It maximizes the amount of "noise" in the signal. Suppose the adversary is sending the message "the swift brown fox". I try to jam that with a signal with a predictable waveform, so the message becomes "sid tvjeu asnxm gny". A sufficiently clever adversary would be able to determine they just need to +1 -1 every other character to filter out the jamming signal. But if I jam it with a one-time pad: "mez keuzq okroz mne". Much more difficult to filter. Louder, high tempo sounds like breakcore music are going to contain more noise (in every sense of terminology) than a classical symphony, hence the louder, the better. (But then again, hooking it up to a random number generator to produce white noise would be ideal.)

    Also they said they needed a VHF transmission... but that has nothing to do with the medium something is recorded on. My cd player or tape deck isnt a radio station.
