A film that set a standard for sci fi that has still to be matched.

Umm Star Wars kicked Star Trek's ass... And Star Wars is an older movie. Without Star Wars there would be no Wrath of Khan. Period.

In all honesty, however, it WAS a Star Trek movie in the original series sense. That is a good base to grow from.
R.I.P Leonard Nimoy. I have been and ever shall be your fan.
R.I.P James Horner. Your score to Wrath of Khan is one of my favorites.

First Contact was incredible, and Generations and Insurrection were merely mediocre, and still heads and tails above TMP or TFF
I take a radical view of importance of movie soundtracks, James Horner's were so great that they were like 90% of the emotional experience of the film.

I am with you on the importance of movie scores. Horner, Goldsmith, Williams, there arent many like them anymore.
This music is amazing. It just exudes adventure, romanticism, and drama. A hint of the mysterious too in the very beginning and end along with a nod to the old Star Trek series music in the opening. Every time I hear this I feel excited for an adventure to come!

Strideo1 why don't they use this as a series theme opener like TNG recycled the ST TMP theme? ST:DSC seems like a good fit.
One of the most outstanding soundtracks I've ever heard. I was eight when it was created & it has given me chills ever since. Condolences to the Horner family on his tragic passing.
Beauty in the form of music.

Sometimes the needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many.
Your music lifted so many films from good to great. Star Trek II was already an amazing movie, but like Williams did for Star Wars, your score blasted this film into history. Heroic, moving, and indelible.

Thank you James Horner for all you did for us.
I've always loved the soundtrack to Wrath of Khan most. It reminds one of a naval theme, but still with that epic Star Trek feel.

"It's about you flying a goddamned computer console, when you want to be out there hopping galaxies!"
I can't...I can't even express how incredibly awesome that is.
Beautiful incorporation of the Original Series' theme song. God, I love the score for this movie. It just fills me with excitement and awe of the great unknown, the final frontier -- space.
This is THE BEST Star Trek theme ever, beating out even the original series. It embodies the excitement, wonder, and eventually the sadness and grief of this movie.
I once called a tech support and THIS was the waiting music. It was the most epic waiting ever.
0:00 --- 0:20 Calm begining. 0:20 --- 0:55 It's out of my scale, this is driving me crazy !!! TOTALLY EPIC 0:55 --- 1:10 Breathing space 1:10 --- 1:40 Another wawe of amazing music. 1:40 --- 2:52 Star Trek style ending
Masterpiece
This movie, made for a fraction of the cost of its predecessor, managed to look, sound, and feel more epic, grand, and intimate than The Motion Picture. The Wrath of Khan is still the absolute best of the series, followed closely by The Voyage Home, and then the new Star Trek. The soundtrack plays a huge role in this.
When you're sitting in front of a giant curved screen age 13, that music starts, and you know this is gonna be the biggest thing you've ever seen.
This is without doubt my favourite "Star Trek" theme tune.
Revenge is a dish best served cold. It's very cold in space.
The best Star Trek movie ever made!
Came by to listen because of James Horner's passing. Should have brought tissues with me.
More!More! R.I.P
this is my favorite music
i love the whole soundtrack for st2
next to the actual star trek theme this is my favorite track
This is the best Trek theme by James Horner..
I just rewtched this and the new Trek, and this is still the best film in the series. More depth of characters, a more compelling villain, battles where tension and cunning played a great part. It's a great movie, let alone a great sci-fi movie.
undoubtedly the best of all the trek films in my opinion
Someone told me that the theme was trying to give you the sense of the unknown and trying to make space seem like this ocean voyage with how it ebbed and flowed.
@RickMHobson I thought the exact same thing. Love this soundtrack.
Rest in peace Ricardo Montalban as khan.
You've got to learn WHY things work on a Starship.
fantastic music
Whenever I hear this, which is a lot, I see tall ships on the ocean. and starships.

Hey James... what!? NOPE, we haven't forgotten you, we will NEVER forget! Thank you, James Horner!
R.I.P. Mr. Leonard Nimoy
This theme made me think of the movie as more of a naval adventure in space wrather than your traditional Star Trek adventure.
I think what does it for me, re: this theme, is that there's something epically nautical about it. You can almost see the old ship, wind filling the sails, as it sets off for a voyage of adventure.
I loved this theme as a kid.
It's the original from Wrath of Khan. This one also happens to be my favorite.
"Don't mince words, Veritech Girl. Tell me what you REALLY think."
Bones "Suppose they went nowhere?" Kirk " Then this will be your big chance to get away from it all."
@mjmorrow76 who can forget the animaniacs ultimate line "His amazing fake plastic chest" I get the feeling he laughed at that line. One of the best villains in SF history played to a T by Mr Montalban.
@Sephirothwolf The funny thing is, that's his real chest. Ricardo Montalban was a bodybuilder and he kept his physique for quite a while, much like Schwarzenegger.
@dude75able While I agree TNG expanded the franchise, you have to remember that ST was a dieing franchise with the flop of The Motion Picture. If it wasn't for the success of ST2 TWOK, there wouldn't have been anything further. This film was without a doubt the rebirth of Star Trek as we know it.
RIP Mr. Horner
I freaking Love James Horner's music.
There's something about this that sounds very Star Trek....but also very 80's.
Listen to the theme from "The Legend of the Glass Mountain" (film, 1949) before you get too excited about the theme tune for WOK :D
You almost got me there.
To me Wrath of Khan is still the greatest Star Trek movie of all time
Khan!!!!!
Khaaaannn!
Im glad to be a trekkie
Sometimes the soundtrack version you buy on CD or Tape or whatever medium is slightly different to the version used on the movie. This may be the "soundtrack" version but thx is right there are some "subtle" differences between this version and the on screen one.
Well, if there is mentioned to marry with this score, i would like to tell that this song is very simmiliar to what feelings i got when i meet with my truly loved girlfriend. I know this is an action/sci-fi score, but its still awake feelings like when there is suddenly appear my love. Funny. Oh, and to comment directly this score, it's awesome. If i ever going to marry with my gf, this song will surely used.
HORNER!!!!!!!!! THE SCORE!!!!!!!!!!
@Stopmotionist Heh, yeah, that too. But you can credit STI as being responsible for the great uniforms in STII and beyond, and for STII's greatness in and of itself. They really overhauled it for STII as a result of STI's blandness. Those boring uniforms paved the way for those sharp, squared away, genuine military looking uniforms in STII. If STI had been just O.K., then things may have turned out poorly in the long run, if that makes sense.
This shit is awesome.....
We all knew it was the sequel to the TOS episode Space Seed.
I'm trying to play this on piano!!! It's almost impossible!!! XD
Best ever pirate adventure... I mean sci-fi movie.
Thanks @Linkara19 To me this should have been the theme for all the films and not the one that became the "TNG" theme
I did, actually, think that this might have made a good theme for "Voyager," possibly because they used it in the promos. But I got used to the theme that they wrote for the show.
I'm just curious as to why this wasn't used for the theme to 'Enterprise' or any other series. TNG used the motion picture theme, and it was awesome. If we ever get a new trek series, they should use this theme or the 'Voyage Home' theme.

I'm glad this theme will always be known as the theme to _The Wrath of Khan_ instead of some shoehorned TV series sequel.
this film and or this theme is totally better then all the star wars themes combined (not including the prequels)
RIP James Horner
yup, some of the more sinister parts sound similar to Aliens if you listen

heheh James Horner youve done it once again 8D heheh epic theme
I've been thinking about getting a pet.
@thx291 this is the real one
A real Star Trek movie not that other crap pretending to be Star Trek movies !
They could potentially put Khan in the new Star Trek. Rather than the "Eugenics Wars", make Khan responsible for the Third World War (mentioned in "Star Trek: First Contact") that devastated the Earth before First Contact with the Vulcans.
Jerry Goldsmith is incorrect. James Horner composed the theme for Wrath of Kahn as well as Krull.
I am sad ;-(
0nly topped by imperial March and holtz himself
@caisediab they wont abrams understands what this film means to the fans besides it is a new timeline and would be silly to have two the same
Nah, it's epic in a different way. ;)
@dude75able What about TMP?
If they do recast Khan (God forbid) I think it should be Nestor Carbonell. He couldn't replace Ricardo, but that's okay because nobody could.
I don't remember the chimes around 1:57
DEVY
click the soccer ball
Isn't it from Star Trek 3?
Is this Horner?
Not even Jerry Goldsmith could save The Motion Picture from Khan. STI was buried alive by STII...buried alive...
