i was in college when this remake dropped on psp. was a kid when the original dropped on PS1.

The fight with Dias has a different meaning when you realize he's just the big bro of Rena that's making sure that Claude has what it takes to protecc his imouto

This game was so underrated.. everything in this game was perfect, storyline, characters, battles, plot etc..

It has character art consistent with the in game stuff as opposed to the first one let alone Ashlay's missing arm is flipped when he faces left despite the graphics and such have him as the right. I will live with only the first one being available on the switch as first departure R did update game mechanics to fight and super specialty similar to the second game (while both having better acting compared to the ps1 lol). Would have been nice to have Dias as a main character choice lol but I guess that's what Rena is for.

This is my favortite game. The only downside was the repeated voice lines when spamming spells. ESPECIALLY when playing characters like Precis 😅

While ally friends were playing final fantasy I was busy falling in love with star ocean and 20 years on I still love this game even the remake is perfect

This game was great if you do all the side story. This game goes really deep. It has really good character development as well. Shame that many games now do not go as deep as the older games. Now many games are more quantity over quality.

I agree! They should make more with the story as deep as this! And not many rpg games has a private action system like SO though... They should consider it to make the game more... enjoyable I think?

Star Ocean made into the 4rd ones, but it's not as good as 1st or 2rd or 3rd. It have good graphic but in 3D and not anime so it's not connected with before, boring music, bad stories, undevelopment character.... (it already merged with Square Enix)

I agree. Games nowadays place way too much focus on graphics. SO3 has great graphics but the story is just so random. There is not much side stories either. Not much romance in it either. Then there comes SO4 and SO5 which have one of the best graphics I have ever since and can have over 8 characters fighting at the same time. They must have spent so much time optimizing the game engine to make that happen. Not sure about their story though.

I've played most of them to me S.O.S.S. Sticks out the most I haven't played the remake "yet". Its probably on my top 5 games of all time that I've replayed the most. That was back on the PS when you fought each monster 3 times but different colours lol. I beat the game 3 times I think then someone said dude you know its made off an Anime right? I went to check that out. Fairly good Anime sadly unfinished. Wonder how the game would have looked if the anime went all the way. If you haven't seen the Anime, its worth watching. Just expect Celine to be a different character lol (thank god they revamped her personality lol)

I played this game when I was a child and I still play it at least once a year, for me it is the best game ever made in history.

Star Ocean 1 and 2 are my favorites and can't wait to reply them on the switch :D

Well it finally happened, Star Ocean is getting a PS4/switch remake for all us who missed the chance to play this one. 15 years I've waited.

I loved Second Story so much that I wore out the discs. I was so happy when Second Evolution came out.

The guy with the blue hair (the one that fights against Claude with Rena in the middle), Dias? Its been so long since I played the game, he reminds me of Byakuya from Bleach. The stance, hair, the whole fighting style (in th way of how he shows no mercy when attacking) etc just makes me think of him.

when i first watched this on my game, I started thinking to myself at the end: " OMG that better not be Welch..." When I got her in a PA scene, i was laughing my ass off. In First Departure, Welch was fricking funny.

This one is my favourite Star Ocean. It's just amazing. I maxed all characters and beat the archangel in the cave of tribulations and then summoned the strongest boss with the silver trumpet and beat her. After a couple of attempts xD That battle is for REAL. But yeah, love this game so so much

OMG! This opening ROCKS in everything!!! I love the scenes! And i loved this game when was out on playstation! I will REALLY play it again on my dear PSP without doubts! I still like more the animation from Star Ocean EX - anime, but this one is not that bad too. :3 Thanks for uploading. ^^

Second Story/Second Evolution is definately where the series peaked. Til End of Time and Last Hope can't hold a candle to it.

Adam Clark I played SO:FD and this one way back when I was a kid, they were my intro to jrpgs then I moved on to the FF series. Been a PC gamer for the last couple years and randomly remembered these games but didn’t have a PSP. Then I remembered ROMS yesterday LOL.

I remember playing this on my psp and i will spend hours on it sadly lost the game after moving but i managed to find it at a pawn shop and got really excited to start playing it again 😄

Best intro of Star Ocean and love this game including Star Ocean 3 and 4. I know that Star Ocean 3 is good and Star Ocean 4 is kind of in the middle but it's good though.

I love this game

Love this game, great story, great gameplay. I got this with my PSP and I loved it ever since. Completed it 3 times with different endings then my brother got my PSP and he now plays it every day. This soundtrack is one of the best things about it

First departure and second evo star ocean is the best from 10 years ago until now, i restart and finished the game again and again every year

I need this game now. I only have First Departure out of the remakes (Mainly for the PSP), but I can't wait to get this one. I'll wait for it to come stateside, though. Anyways, this opening is great. The song sort of reminds me of Tales of Legendia's opening song.

my favorite out of all 4 best everything. star ocean 4 was fantastic and i loved the fighting system but this one was fantastic in the way they brought everything together

@mccinley17 There are two methods, I think: - First, either equip a Meteor Ring. You can find this in Eluria Tower and other places as well. - Or a Gale Earring. You can also find this in Eluria Tower and other places, but i think it's for girls only. Um, I dunno other methods, but I only rely on these methods. I get alot of Meteor Rings when I progress thru the game. Happy finding the rings!

i forgot a little bit how exactly how it goes, i havent played in a while, but basically shell be in the inn in the town where the torment is being held, she says shes looking for "someone: you go back to the king in the first castle you were and ask him about the women, hell give you access to a cave in the area and you meet up with her somewhere in there. you get ernest much later in the game, close to the end of the disk, opera will see a ship or something near the ruin where yu take Leon

@dannywolfpero I don't -know- this as a fact, since I haven't played The Last Hope, but it's a persistent universe from First Departure up through Till the End of Time. Claude (in the localized U.S. PSX version, at least) is explicitly Ronixis' son, even if it has no story value, and the meta-setting of the games is the same (even though the games themselves all take place on different planets).

I just started the game recently, right now I'm at Linga. Meeting mechanic girl and other things..

Im currently just starting to play this version of the game on ppsspp! Wish me luck!

I meant the original version of Second Story (PSX), not the original Star Ocean (SNES).

I've had hard luck finding the stratagie guide for it. But what i've been doing is I just checked out the Stratagieguide on Gamefaqs for Star Ocean The second story that was released for the PS1. Many of the names have changed. Like, the talent "dexterity" (I believe) got changed to the talent "Nimble Fingers". And the awesome item "Mischief" Was changed to "Sprite's Bracelet". There are also new PA's that the old strat doesent cover. But it has good common ground.

I would love it if this and the first game came to steam and modern consoles! I used to love playing this on my PSP (although I never completed it!) I always thought Ashton's singing was hilarious!

For those who are clueless of what the equation means - Daisuke Namikawa who is voicing Claude, is Al from Gundam 0080 and Nana Mizuki who is Rena is voicing Hinata from Naruto and Fate Testarossa from Nanoha. In short, these seiyuu are voicing the characters for Claude and Rena in the remake.
