Star Lord and Gorr Should Have Met

Enter Star Lord; a character who James Gunn once said had the sole superpower of luck. He has some gadgets and gizmos but he’s a relatively low power character. Enter Gorr; the villain of Ragnarok, wielder of the necrosword - able to go toe to toe with the mighty God of Thunder and grab a hold of stormbreaker without losing his marbles - there’s no doubt that even the nerfed mcu version of the character is a force to be reckoned with. A fight between Quill and Gorr would be over in seconds, and probably wouldn’t be very flashy.
But here’s the thing; these two should have totally come to blows in Love and Thunder, and I think there’s one very particular reason as to why which wasn’t even mentioned. Quill could have, and should have had at least some kind of interaction with Gorr. It would have been to the benefit of both characters and I think it would have sold me on the team being in the movie in the first place…

Had the director from Empire been overseeing episode 1, it would've been a masterpiece imo. Just cut out JarJar give Obiwan more screen time along side Quigon, as Anakin shouldn't have as much as a role, i don't get the whole pod racing thing, its not needed. I'd also cut one of the plots at the end, either the space battle cut down entirely or the raid on the palace, both plots are to disable the droids.

The same piece of Godhood caused their deaths. Further reinforce that Gods aren't only redundant, but also toxic. They destroy even the worthiest due to what? Lack of blood relation. Original Gorr storyline refutes that idea, Thor is at his peak when he put the heroism and being a "God" in the same principle, he's already selfless, he just need to reinforce that, being able to be everywhere in the 9 realms. Let's not forget Drax, who suffered the same fate as Gorr, having to live on failing to save your daughter from death.

Star-Lord is one of my favourite characters in the MCU and while I enjoyed Love and Thunder a lot for being the first romcom in the MCU, I do think that Quill and Gorr interacting would have fit very well thematically. I would have personally removed the "save the children" framing device and instead given Gorr more scenes of murdering gods on-screen and let the Guardians team-up with Thor and the Mighty Thor during the final battle instead of the kids. They could have kept Gorr's motivation of being a father the same as well as Quill and Nebula would both have arguments about Ego and Thanos

  • @peterfrank3365

Indeed, the children served no thematic sense and it only betrayed Gorr's motivation - He hunts gods because he deems them careless and yet the "kidnapping the children" plot would only work if Thor cares about the children.

My problem with quantumania wasn't really that they had to get rid of Kang's suit for it to be a fair fight. My problem is that without his suit, it shouldn't have been a fair fight. Kang is a god, or as close to one that a mortal can be, yet he lives for passion. He fights wooly mammoths with his bare hands just to feel alive. He destroys civilizations with his armies, yes, but his true power is his absolute willpower. Indomitable will to rival that of Peter Parker, but not restrained by morality. Immortus isn't just a future version of Kang. He's Kang when Kang gets bored. When Kang loses the will to keep conquering, keep pushing the bounds of the universe, of mortality, of time itself. Nobody really reads many Kang comics so they don't realize his true character, but Quantumania, for as good as Jonathan Majors is, did kinda a character assassination of Kang. The idea that scott without his suit could survive for seconds against kang is ridiculous. This isn't even a batman v superman scenario, give ant man a million years of prep time and he should still literally be an insect under the boot of Nathaniel Richards.

Going off the writing in Infinity War, Starlord changes his accent because he's threatened by Thor. I thought he'd have Gorr after him too by claiming his own God-hood during another pissing contest-style scenario. Outlandish, but that's the Guardians for you. I was surprised when literally nothing of importance happened with them.

  • @peterfrank3365
    @peterfrank3365 Жыл бұрын

The Guardians being so minimal in the movie isn't just a missed opportunity to have them adventuring the cosmos accompanied by classic tunes, but both parties are very familiar with loss. It could've even be the central core of the movie. Quill banded the Guardians together by calling each of themselves as losers. Thor lost his family and friends, and in here, about to lose his love. And of course, Gorr lost his daughter. Even the dialogue between Ego and Quill as the latter rejected his godhood rings familiar to Frigga's words as she comforted Thor. I did a re-write on this movie and I instead have Quill interact with Jane. Both she and his mother fell for a spaceman and subsequently dying of cancer; a parallel that's hard to miss which the movie did anyway. Beneath her Thor facade, she's already in an advanced stage of the cancer but still uneasy on how to break it down to Thor. And Quill's there to encourage her to do so anyway. Jane is also the one to challenge Gorr's beliefs. He fatally impales her and gone is her facade. He realizes she was a mortal and in her dying moments stood by a god, her love. He angrily brands her a fool, but this serves as a catalyst as Thor further challenges Gorr by allowing him to kill Thor, in the name of his love. Gorr decides not to. I can post the summary in here if anyone's interested. Going back to the classic tunes, the movie didn't even make it sensible. Guns & Roses' tunes play through the movie but why? They don't come from Quill's Zune. Thor wouldn't even know them.

@TheGlassesPro It's just a plot summary, so more of the nuances are not included. It's to be narrated by a woman. It begins with a montage of Thor working out and going on adventures with the Guardians. After a brawl with other galactic bounty hunters, which started after they question Thor's identity, he recalls of his old days and plan to move on again, not most suited with the Guardians' lifestyle. He and the Guardians tend to another SOS call, revealed be Lady Sif, fighting the Shadow Beasts. In the battle, Thor finds Jane, wielding the Mjolnir. Sif is injured so Jane, Thor, and the Guardian head to New Asgard on Earth to have her treated. In there, Sif reveals that the Shadows were summoned by "the god butcher". At the same time, Thor reconnects with Jane, who says that the worthiness came to her "like a calling". Realizing that Jane is now known as him, Thor believes that the God Butcher would come after her; he seeks him out by going to places where others gods bave been slain. Korg as company. In New Asgard, Quill calls Jane and Valkyrie unfair to have not informed Thor of Jane's development. Under Darcy's encouragement, Jane reveals to the Guardians that she's dying of cancer; she has lost her hair and appears frail whenever she drops the hammer. A flashback reveals what she has been up to as Mighty Thor up until that point. She have been reluctant to tell Thor, as she didn't know how to break it down for him, especially since their relationship have ended. The group eventually learns of Thor's absence and track him down. Thor and Korg find themselves in a trap by the God Butcher; though he himself is nowhere to be seen, he raised the slain gods as his undead army to confront Thor and Korg. Jane, Valkyrie, and the Guardians came in nick of time. At this point, the narration begins to breakaway from what's actually happening in the story. Understanding that they do not have the advantage, they set out to the Omnipotent City to seek help from King of the Gods, Zeus. On the way there, Quill apologizes for his earlier behavior to Jane earlier and encourages her to open up her condition to Thor. Zeus seems jovial towards the group at first, but gradually turns against them, as he holds low opinion on Asgardians. He and Thor clash, but only briefly, before the group is held captive in the city prison. Zeus and his fellow gods hold a festivity, just vainly celebrating their godhood. They're eventually interrupted by someone Zeus assumes to be one of themselves. He reveals himself as Gorr, the so called God Butcher. He wields a sword Zeus recognize as the Necrosword. He calmly taunts Zeus, enraging the latter. Gorr, after killing several gods, unleashes his Shadow Beasts, including the resurrected slain gods, onto the living gods while he goes on to fight Zeus alone. In the chaos, Thor, Jane, and the Guardians escape. Thor rescues Zeus, though the act goes unseen by Gorr. Zeus maintains his disdain for Thor, ungrateful. In return, Thor kicks him away and steals his Thunderbolt. He and Jane form a duo, combating Gorr and his minions. An overwhelmed Gorr calls for a truce and presents an ultimatum: whoever it was who saved Zeus, they must to come to his place, the Shadow Domain, where they duel until the death. If not, he unleash his Shadow Kinds upon the universe. The heroes regroup back in New Asgard, planning the battle with Gorr. Jane insists on going, despite Thor's reluctance. She then reveals to him that she is dying of cancer, Mantis confirms it, saying the next time she reverts to her human form, it'll be her last. Jane have settled with her fate and wishes her final moments to be with him, in the battle. Thor becomes upset and leaves the room to process it. He is suddenly pulled into another realm. He lands in a pond and standing tall before him is Yggdrasil itself and the Three Sisters of Fate (I decided to blend the Moirai and the Norns together); the oldest sister is revealed to be the narrator. She tells Thor that they have found him quite pesky, having constantly move away from the fate they've written for him since Thanos' defeat. But Thor's rescue of Zeus is one act that irked them most; Zeus, being King of the Gods, is the only one of the gods to hold sway over the Three Sisters. He used to be wiser but grew vain, and they grew to despise him in return. Zeus' latest request for them is to make the Necrosword itself, to be used to murder a god over a love affair with a goddess. The Fates arranged this to be his hubris and thus, complied to his demand. Zeus killed the god but was so self absorbed that he left the sword in the corpse of the god, and it would later be found by Gorr --- The Fates intended Zeus to be killed by Gorr. Thor calls out out their hypocrisy, stating that their desire for Zeus' death instead cause more deaths of other gods and now risk the universe into total chaos. He states that he'll kill Gorr and retrieve the sword to them. The Fates are willing to accept; in fact, they offer to grant a wish from him should he be successful. However, should Gorr kill him, his wish would be granted instead. At this point, there is no more narration. Thor returns to his group, allowing Jane into the fight, saying that he could save her. They set course to the Shadow Domain, which unlike the movie, is a shattered planet and in pieces, rather than a whole round micro planet. Nearly all is absolutely black and white, with the exception of the lightnings from the axe and the hammer, which are blue; the bolt, which is yellow; and the Guardians' blasters' beams, which are green and pink. In some walls, the group see shadow plays based of Gorr's memories with his daughter. When they find him, the Guardians try to reach him through his plights and loss. Gorr rebukes them, and calls them silly for risking their mortal lives for that Thor's, an immortal. He summons his Shadow Creatures to battle all of them; he himself sets focus on Thor and Jane, though he doesn't know who the real Thor is. In the fight, Jane manages to wound Gorr, but in turn, he manages to fatally stab Jane, and he senses that she is a mortal all along. Thor rushes to her and Gorr stands still in bewilderment, practically giving the two a moment. In Thor's arms, Jane states that at a point, she knew dying to the disease is certain and have accepted it, she just had trouble saying goodbye to him. With her wish fulfilled, she dies. The Mjolnir comes apart again and unable to be used. Thor then returns to another fight with Gorr. The latter's wounds grow fatal; however, Thor "forfeits", giving Gorr a chance to kill him. Gorr swings the sword but stops before it strikes Thor. He deems Thor "not like the other gods" he's killed. Time then stops, freezing the battle with the Guardians and the Beasts. The oldest of the Fate appears, in full color, and she comes to both men. She scolds Thor for seemingly renegading their agreement; Thor must be the victor as Gorr is at the point of certain death. However, Thor insists that Gorr could've killed him still at that moment. The Older Fate yields and offers to grant a wish to Gorr; he chooses his daughter. She appears and reaches him. Gorr makes Thor vow to care for her before dying. The Older Fate then says that she and her sisters will not interfere too closely within the realms of mortals ever again before vanishing, taking the sword with her. Thor and the girl come out to greet the Guardians and Asgardians, now in color. In New Asgard, Thor part ways from the Guardians to care for the girl. Quill congratulates Thor for finding his peace. Thor, in turn, wishes Quill would find his when he finds Gamora again. Later, Thor puts the girl to bed, offering to tell a bedtime story. He suggests the story of Iron Man or Captain America, but the girl chooses the story of the Mighty Thor. So he tells her the story, starting with how he met Jane in New Mexico. The POV pans out the bedroom through the window into the starry night sky. The credit rolls with the actors' name linked to their roles based on figures of the constellation. The post-credit scene is Oldest Fate narrating directly to the audience; saying while that concluded the chapters of Thor's love and thunder, it is not the end of his story, for he shall return.

@TheGlassesPro Yeah, I found Eternity and the Necrosword in the movie as non-sensical. Eternity is supposed to be the embodiment of the multiverse itself, but with all that power, all it is was a plot point of granting wishes. The sword's purpose also goes against Eternity's, so why does it want Gorr to reach Eternity? So I covered the pot holes by weaving it together by the Norns/Moirai. They'd actually serves the story, allows the theme of fate for Thor to resume, and a way for me to take MCU's self-awareness to a next level, and not just for jokes. Anyway, thanks for reading.

The God Butcher's head turned towards Quill, slow and creepy like; with his piercing yellow eyes almost reflective as they projected Quill's own stern - yet terrified - image back at him. With sword in hand Gorr stepped away from the blood drenched carnage behind him; purposefully dragging his foot over Drax's beaten body as he walked towards Quill. The sword dripped with red plasma and what was left of several pieces of clothing now impaled on the razor tipped blade, and as he raised it to force his way into Quill's chest: he stopped. Gorr hesitated and just looked at him. Quill took a step back and promptly raised his twin blasters, his nostrils flared with every angry exhale he made, his fingers, quivering to pull the triggers and let Gorr have it all. But... Neither of them did. Gorr let out a winced grunt and cricked his neck a few times, a gutteral growl coming from his throat and he pointed at Quill instead before speaking in a soft, commanding tone "I sense the God's in you. You're not like the others, a mortal. Like me... Who are you really?" Quill didn't say a word for what felt like an eternity but he eventually blurted out "My name is Star-Lord! And you're right; I was once like them. But not anymore, I changed for the better!" The tensions were high. Drax was slowly coming too, and he struggled to sit up clutching his ribs where Gorr had hurt him the most. For the first time in a long time The Destroyer felt like he'd been beaten. He noticed them both talking rather than fighting, and had to resist the urge to get involved himself "Kill him, Quill! He is no man! He's a monster! He killed them all and you'd rather talk with him!?" Drax said, very concerned, confused and a little angry. "This matters not to you, Destroyer; silence or I'll send you to where your family could never meet you again..." Gorr didn't even look in his direction when he spoke. Quill nodded at Drax, and Drax - although very determined to fight - shut his mouth. "I lost my powers a long time ago, Gorr. Believe me I was once like you. I lost someone close to me." Quill continued, but Gorr's look of disarray morphed into an evil smirk and then straight into a sneer "Liar. What did you do, Quill? Lose them when you refuse to help like the others? Gamble them away in a bid for your own life?" Gorr couldn't believe it: he didn't want to believe a God would reject their ego and become a slave to the ones above. "He's telling the truth, monster!" Drax shouted out and he inhaled sharply at the pain he was currently facing. Gorr snapped his head in Drax's direction and yelled "Wait! He's right! M... My father was a Godlike being. Some of his essence rubbed off on me. I had to fight him, Gorr. I had to *kill* him! He was gonna destroy the galaxy and everyone in it! That includes you, Gorr, and whoever you lost!" Gorr stopped what he was doing and gradually lowered his sword once more, sighing deeply before pulling his robes hood back over the scars lining his head "Maybe there's hope for some of you after all..."

I imagine Peter leaving Rocket in charge while he’s gone (if you’ve seen Vol. 3 you know why this is a good choice) and being a good supporting character. The two were standoff-ish in Infinity War and Endgame but they could’ve built a brotherly bond. I’ve seen it mentioned a lot here but the connection Peter could’ve had with Jane with her cancer would’ve been pretty impactful. The movie’s heavy use of Guns N’ Roses in the soundtrack would also make a lot more sense with Peter there with his Zune. Each time I think of this movie I just think how much there was to be desired (I walked in thinking Khonshu would be a quick blink and you’ll miss it cameo in Omnipotencity but thinking about it now I’m glad he wasn’t in this)

Honestly I don’t think Love and Thunder is as bad as many people say. The movie has some good stuff, it was just a bit disappointing with some missed opportunities and the Guardians are one of them. I think Love and Thunder could’ve been much better and more fans would like the movie if it just had a few small changes to it. Like these…… - Less cringey jokes (obviously) - Longer run time. So the movie can be around 135 minutes long to 145 minutes long. - The Guardians of the Galaxy stay with Thor and help him with his mission against Gorr. - More serious moments. - Less screaming from the screaming goats. - Some of the deleted scenes stay in the movie (like Thor and Zeus talking on Earth and the Grandmaster appearing). - Less conversations between Thor and Jane on catchphrases and on who broke up with who (maybe one or two of each and that’s it). - The ice cream shop in Asgard has the Stark Gauntlet on it instead of Thanos’ Gauntlet (not very important to the story or characters but I have heard some people questioning that detail). The final thing I’d add is a small change to Thor, Jane and Gorr. I thought all three of them were done well in the movie, but this would make them better. Thor can still be funny and have that arc where he closes his heart so he can’t get hurt again, but add some serious moments to show how losing so many loved ones affected him. Gorr was almost just right so I’d just have a few scenes where he’s murdering Gods and soldiers. Jane’s story was probably one of the best in the film but I think she should’ve had a more personal reason for joining Thor on his quest. For that, I would add something from the comics to her story (warning I don’t read comics so this is all just what I got on the internet but I would add a twist to it). So when Thor and Jane’s relationship began to grow distant, Jane would meet a doctor called Keith Kincaid and she would see him behind Thor’s back. Weeks after Thor and Jane broke up, Jane found out that she was pregnant. The twist is she doesn’t know who the father is (yeah I know it’s inaccurate to the comics but it’ll work into the story later). She ends up having a baby boy called Jimmy and everything is fine but Jane’s work takes over and when arguing about it, Jane blips away (it is confirmed that Jane ended up getting blipped). Two things could happen to Keith. Either he dies in a car crash weeks later causing Jimmy to be in an orphanage or Gorr ends up murdering Keith in front of Jane in the present day. When Jane returns and learns that she’s been gone for five years, she is upset that she missed out on most of Jimmy’s life who would be around 5 or 6 years old in 2023 so (if Keith is still alive at this point) she decides to make an arrangement with him. She’ll try balancing her work out so that she can be in her son’s life and he agrees. But then she gets cancer and tries to find a cure, more determined now that she has something other than her career worth fighting for. She figures out that Mjolnir could help cure her so she goes to New Asgard and ends up being worthy. While fighting the shadow creatures, Jane briefly fights Gorr and somehow he would do something to find out her weakness but all he saw was a man and a boy. When Jane flies around the world to try find Gorr and the Asgardian kids, she comes across the old building where she lived with her husband and son years ago (at this point in the movie, Korg would then do a narration of everything I just said about Jane’s family life). She then heard bullets and flew a few miles where she saw Gorr murdering a bunch of police officers. Then he grabbed hold of Keith and Jimmy. Jane jumped down and threatened him to let them go. Gorr would almost instantly find out that she was the ex wife of the man and the mother of the young boy. He said that he had a daughter but he lost her because of the gods and now he will kill all gods. He then swished the Necro sword near Jimmy. Keith punched Gorr telling him to get away from Jimmy but then Gorr placed the Necro sword through Keith’s heart. Jane froze, horrified as she watched Keith fall to his knees. But when Gorr grabbed Jimmy’s wrist, Jane charged at him but he escaped into the shadows. Gorr said he won’t kill her because “it’s not her that he wants”, then he disappeared with Jimmy. Jane was mad that Gorr escaped with her kid but she turned to Keith and flew him to the hospital begging for help. As he laid on the floor, Keith looked up to Jane and told her that he was sorry for everything that happened between them. Two nurses then picked him up and put him on a hospital bed. His last words to Jane were to “promise him to save their son” before he was taken away by the nurses and doctors. Feeling angry, Jane flew back to New Asgard where Thor, Valkyrie and Korg were waiting for her along with the Guardians of the Galaxy. They had arrived not that long ago but their ship, the Milano had crashed and was now damaged. Thor told Jane that the kids were in the Shadow Realm and that they were going to go to Omnipotent City and put together an army of Gods to fight Gorr. As they were preparing for their journey, Jane was pacing in a room. She felt horrible and smashed the sink, even seeing a more sickly version of herself in the mirror. Then there was a knock on the door. It was Valkyrie and Mantis saying it was almost time to go. Valkyrie saw the sink and asked if Jane was alright but she brushed it off saying she was fine. Mantis then touched her arm and said that Jane was feeling nervous, anger and sickness, also love for a little boy. Jane then ended up telling them everything about Keith, Jimmy and her cancer, asking them to not tell anyone, especially Thor as she will do it herself later. When the goats were hooked up to the Viking boat,

I think an interesting way to tie this even closer to Thor himself would be for Gorr to discover Thor refused to become the king of Asgard at the end of Dark World. Thor at the time wasn't capable of discarding his raw power like Starlord could, but the what he could give up, he did. And perhaps if the movie is so focused on Jane's cancer and making her like Thor, perhaps Thor voluntarily attempts something Odin once forced him to do in the first movie. He gives up his power, granting it to her instead. Ideally this could happen after a moment when Jane actually earns Mjolnir instead of Thor just being able to give out his powers to whoever. Thor gives up his near immortality and effectively cures Jane's cancer at least for the time being. You could even lean into this further and have this start killing Thor, since Jane was dying and he's taken her place. So Gorr has not one, but two examples of gods giving up their power to save those they love. Gorr is nearly convinced, but ultimately doesn't come around, and he kills Jane. And since Thor's power was within her, he has at least for now killed that as well, to add some actual stakes. When Thor parts ways with the guardians, he says that he feels oddly relieved to no longer have his power. He's tired of fighting. He returns to New Asgard to continue building a new life for his people, which leaves the character in a place where Chris Hemsworth can leave the MCU if that's what he wants. And I think it works well thematically, since at the beginning of his first movie, all Thor wanted was to prove he was the strongest one in a room and to rule Asgard, all to stroke his own ego. He would end his potentially last movie having given up power, and ruling out of responsibility, not ego.

That’s actually a really good idea and the reason for why makes complete sense. I think it couldve happened if the Guardians went to Earth with Thor. Most of the movie would stay the same but Thor asks some of the Guardians to come to Omnipotent City with him. Star-Lord, Drax and maybe one more Guardian joins Thor while the rest stay to protect Asgard. That way, this scene can happen and maybe near the end, Star-Lord and Groot can go with Jane to the final battle so that Quill and Gorr can interact one more time. Not sure what could happen by then but it would still be pretty cool.

Your sketch is way more emotional and thoughtful than entire phase 4 combined.

Its extra frustrating because Thor had some really great interactions with Rocket and Groot, and I really wanted to see more of them together. Especially since, (while my friend only showed me the parts up until the GotG left), Rocket seemed like he could’ve played a pretty big role in Thor’s character development? Along with the other Guardians considering their relationships and UGH idk I just thought it would’ve been cool to have more interactions between Thor and the GotG.

Most fans, myself included loved Thors chemistry with the Guardians, and they even teased an Asgardians of the Galaxy movie in Endgame. It honestly seemed like a no brainer. The decision makers at Marvel, Kevin Fiege and Taika Waitit included, really dropped the ball with that. Thor L&T had all the potential ingredients to be a great movie, but they completely screwed it up. Limiting the Guardians to roughly 10 minutes of screentime was the first big mistake

I totally agreed the Guardians were underutilized and your idea of having Quill meeting Gorr is pretty much well made. I might add having Quill talk to Thor about Jane being terminal, pairing both the experience of loss that either Godhood is the cause or doesn’t help. Wish they stayed longer, and would give an extra half star if the Guardians were given the Thor boost when the final battle was a little higher stake. Yes that is hypocritical and I know it will never happen. Just throwing in notes “looks amazing but doesn’t have the feel earned” file.

Not only have Peter and Gorr got a lot to talk about but Peter and Jane. Peter's mother was given cancer by his god father, he can relate to both of their griefs for the same reason and i think that ties all the characters together thematically. Theres also a large argument for peter to gain the necro sword. His demi god dna might give him some resistance to the corruption as well as a strong motive to not like the gods. Or Drax. Even if Peter was in it for just a little bit longer, you could easily justify the necro sword finding him in the post credits scene. If Gorr gave him any kind of cut and Peter grew it out of that cut in the post credit scene the audience wouldve been struck. Obviously none of that happened and we got a guardians 3 which had nothing to do with symbiotes but if he got that sword we couldve found ourselves on Klyntar the symbiote homeworld tying a version of venom into the non sonyverse mcu.

I think some of Marvel fans need to cut Taika some slack. During the production of Thor:Love and Thunder, Taika was voice acting for Lightyear as a character who was quite involved so maybe he wasn’t on his A-Game during the production of Thor 4.
