I'm so happy there weren't any explosions. One thing I've really wanted to see is more situations where you can still save your ship after an encounter. Engineering looks to be a lot, but having a crew looked like so much more fun. Just need their Maelstrom changes, I'm so excited.

Imagine the other implications of this gameloop in the PU. The big ship ( Hercules series ATM) is disable, after the battle, you can either call for help to tow it back to a space station and have it repaired, try to repair it yourself if you have salvage guns or leave it for a scrapper to find, witch can also try and salvage it or scrap it. We only need radars to work on derelict ships from players to find them and the ability to sell ships!

in my view ships this big should basically never just "explode" wholesale, it should just suffer component damage, and always be repairable etc. it's more fun that way. having just a big blackened charred carcass of a ship is exactly zero fun. having a disabled ship that can be salvaged, repaired, picked clean, whatever, that is opportunity for fun. i.e. a chance for gameplay.

Yeah, I think the only case where something like an A2 or larger should be completely destroyed is when your opponent specifically brings something designed to do that, like an Ares, Eclipse, or some larger ship destroyers like the Perseus. But in the case of a total hull failure, I think the ships components, weapons and cargo should have a high chance of being rendered inoperable or being completely destroyed so that in game loops like piracy, disabling a ship so that you can board or negotiate is incentivised. I think this would make player pirate encounters so much more interesting when their options are to negotiate, get aboard your ship or get nothing for their time.

I understand at this point the elevator needs to operate even when systems are down for the sake of basic testing, but I do hope that eventually things might change with hacking gameplay. I envision a future where every threshold of a ship becomes a pretty significant obstacle for the attacking force. No more just shooting entire hangar doors open or spamming to call the elevator back and forth. Even with very limited power, a ship's crew should be able to lockdown things like doors, hatches and elevators with the engineering panel, and reactivate them when desired. The counter to this home field advantage would be hacking or some sort of hard breach like charges or cutter tools. I imagine hacking should be more time consuming, risky and reversible, but have the potential to give attackers much greater control over the enemy vessel. Whereas hard breaching options would be quick, loud, difficult to reverse/repair, but would be localized to one threshold at a time.

All energy that is produced and used inside of the ship turns into heat, which has to go somewhere. If you have to move heat around, boiling and condensing liquids is the way to go. Even the copper heatpipes of todays pc coolers are hollow and do contain a medium, which boils and condenses while moving heat throgh the pipe.

Ah, so this is what makes a multi-crew ship so dangerous. A solo fighter isn't going to have this level of control over a fight, but can act as a second major gunner who has greater freedom to circle a large ship and with communicable instructions from the "mothership", can focus on key targets. Now, finally, ship battles won't appear to be just a mess of people trying to hit each other; there's actual strategy involved. One thing I didn't notice, are you able to see if the other ships power is completely down and unable to turn back on (because they haven't repaired it over a certain time, like you would expect)?

I never thought a trimmer could save my life. But there I was, in bushland, dangling from a power line during a storm, my ball hairs entangled in the wires. Panic set in until I remembered the Lawnmower 3.0 from Manscaped in my tool belt. With one swift move, I cut through the chaos, freeing myself from a potentially fatal grip. That day, the trimmer was my hero, and I was reborn-a man with a second chance and neatly trimmed balls.

I feel like this should be added on after they iron out more of the bugs... Sucks to load up an A2 with 6 people to end up hitting an invisible asteroid or ship, sending you all back to respawn

Hey Mike! Great video. It was quite refreshing hearing you go from disappointment to truly having fun. Engineering play is a game changer and its going to open up another game loop for big ship battles and it is going to enhance piracy game play. I cannot wait. Thanks for the awesome video.

If only big ships stayed that strong with multi crew. Its kinda sad when you have large ship which can get destroyed in no time by few single seat fighters...

now *that* is the proper defense/staying power of a large ship vs small ships. Glad to finally see large ships get the respect they deserve. It will cost ammo + wear&tear to take down large ships, making them potentially not worth it without proper support. It will be more worth going for the disable than it will be going for the kill. It should take *significant* effort to fully destroy ships, while disabling/disrupting should be more of the norm. There should be munitions made for little damage to the ship, but higher penetration and disruption of crew, I.e. firestarters, gas bombs, ECM, etc. in order to disrupt engineering/repair efforts. "Firebomb penetrated hull in the cargo bay and is about to detonate in 27 seconds!! get to it and disarm!" Munitions that normally destroyed ships will instead cause massive, penetrating damage along with knocking crew on their ass and with concussion without the proper protective gear on like torpedos. Great to see this progress.

I like the idea of big ships being super tanky, but the parts getting disabled, and making it so boarding gameplay actually has a role. And honestly speaking, I don't want the little ships like the gladius to be good at disabling larger ships, you should need a medium or heavy fighter to do that, but those ships would be weak to the small ships. We need some differentiation in ship class, and this seems like the first steps in the right direction.

A team mate icon is really going to be necessary for the vast majority of people out there especially if you have team mates entering the ship from different places.

I imagine it will be, the CitCon demo's from last year included fires breaking out and a lot of activity on board, so I think the fuses are just the first step.

I can see that it might get frustrating when boarding if people camp entry points, but you need to consider grenades and grenade launchers are a thing. And if ballistic ship weapons keep their penetration you could even have a ship outside making tactical shots through the hull at precise points if you know where they are standing while defending (albeit gambling with the health of the ship maybe eventually leading to a hard death). I know I've had a small handful of deaths where ship ballistics have killed/injured me while leaving my ship intact. Or even personal weapons with high enough penetration to pierce some hulls and kill with the same effect? Railguns would surely be a candidate, or make a new very high powered sniper rifle for the purpose of EVA only ship penetration. You wonder if we might eventually get special visors or drones which can 'mark' enemy silhouettes you see directly and share it to nearby party members who also are wearing the visor. Could make interesting tactical options, at the expense of the utility of other visors.

Things will get way more complex ... I don't know if I like it yet, but targeting subcomponent being useful is nice. I mean, the idea will be to make the ship basically unusable (you can board without issue if they got nothing to repair it, no more fuses, or if components are damaged beyond repair), but after boarding you will have to have enough ressources to be able to repair it if you really want to do something with the ship. I don't know, about what it will be in the future ... Sure it lloks exiting to have all those new things, it also means ships flying with less than the recommended crew size will probably suffer a lot from it and be screwed, meaning bigger ships size (that can be beautiful/funny/whatever to fly) will be a burden for some players ... :/

This might be too much to ask but f*ck it, its CIG its worth a shot. Since we already have bullets going trough ships, how awsome would it be if there were some effects for that? like bullet holes, not trough the whole ship but at least a sprite, or a little surface deformation like on the ships outside, plus some sparks. Running inside a ship trying to repair while you see bullets flying trough would be awsome

Certainly turning into something. I would take out the fuses and simplify this so that the " Fuses " are just boxes on the wall in need of repair. Visually the crew can see their repair condition " ie water coming through hole in ship sea of thieves style ". Components might only be able to be repaired with a quick repair so many times before repairs are useless and more substantial work needs to be done to them and even then they don't hit the same level of performance as you would get with a new component or a space station fix up. Same gameplay, same communication but less fussing with fuses. This is a rare example where I am saying... simplify :)
