Ok but who needs tutorials from those who dont know? True standing seam has been destroyed in america because of these types. How embarrassing really.

Great video demo on installing a standing seam metal roof. Copper is gorgeous when installed correctly. Nothing shows quality standing seam roofs like copper. Awesome job on the video...Many homes in Fairfield County CT have copper roofs on them.

I disagree with the Z-Bar, we were old school and did our tops just like everything else. The beauty of a standing seam roof is there are NO PENETRATIONS in the roof itself. Also, our seamers were foot and hand, you guys must have some extremely strong arms and shoulders to run hand seamers for both the low and the high sides on the roof itself. We roofed the old train station in Fairfax Va. Had enough hips and valleys to make life interesting and a great display of our work for decades to come. That job was done I believe in 1984-`85. Everything was done by hand, no fancy machine to make the folds.

ALF FOR PRESIDENT I have always boxed in the tops of my panels. I know with some styles of panels you have to do a top screw in case the panels was to slide, and usually with the top boxed in we will put a screw in the very top corner along with a dab of caulking in each corner.

the company i first started with, we installed the cap and drip first. A company i just recently worked with used z bar, but 10 foot sections and cut all the seams and installed across the top, which leaves a gaping hole 1" under the ridge! I like tieing everything together the old fashioned way, no penetration is the ultimate goal.

I worked with a metal tradesman in the business for a few years, he used tongs and a rag so he wouldnt scratch or dent.

That's pretty labor intensive

TShow I hope you're old enough not to pay any attention to stick in the mud people. I appreciate your detailed instructions. I wish you do a video on 3 panel slate interlocking roofing and focus more on Ridges, Valleys, flashings, hips, etc because interlocking panels are easy, but the hard part are the things I just mentioned. Just start with a full panel and hope for the best

I have done architectural copper for 15 years, and I don't understand why a fold over clip wasn't used. This would be a semi-hidden clip that meets most wind regulations, not to mention, no exterior holes through the pannels. Using an off set cleat is used so the pannels can be screwed down at the top and allows for movement of the pannel with heat and the lack of. Screws every 16 would cause tin canning, or wrinkles in the metal. everyone's different.

It's better to hem the rake edge around dripedge just like the eave .

Gerade hier in Deutschland,wo mich das Dach doch stark an das was wir hier Kupferscharen nennen erinnert, die Anschlüsse gehören alle eingefalzt, z.B. am First eine "Büttnerfalz", die Verarbeitung so ist undicht, da die kohäsionskräfte an den falzen wirken, und sich wasser hochzieht oder durch wind hochgedrückt wird, es kommt somit zu schäden da auch oben nicht die falz nicht umgelegt ist^^

Zinc is more temperamental. It is nicer to work with because its softer. Cant use it on flat roofs and you have to make sure what the temperature fluctuations are for thermal expansion.

Do you not turn up the top of the roof sheet at the ridge?

With 30 years in construction. I would say: Lowe’s is a joke. Rarely do they have the things you need. Let alone any sort of expertise. Go to a local supplier.

copper is sold by the ounce, not the gauge. copper + is copper and stainless, but that seemed straight copper by the way he bent the hem with the seamers and didnt have a super hard time putting the galvanized screw in the copper

Having a background in sheet metal, not wearing gloves PERIOD makes me cringe. I've had stitches a couple times because I didn't wear gloves on sharp metal. But yes, oil from hands on copper can cause funky stuff to copper when it starts to oxidize. Though after a year I don't think it would matter much.

thats the old way from back in the day, LOL today we use J channel on each side of ridge cap which is installed 1st then slide your panels in J channel and you dont walk on finished product. DHG Denver Co

failure to show clips close up, better than most though !!!!!

A good tool designer would design the tool to not scratch the roof... The Z closure should come precut too..

+2Awesome We always installed raw tin and painted it after installing. Scratches don't actually hurt anything except when doing copper and after 6 months and the verdigris process is well begun, you won't see them anyway.

Bob, so many people remark poorly about your details. Having some knowledge about how metal roofing is done in places they know how it should be done, I do agree with them. Your tutorial is pretentious and misleading. It has ZERO experience and knowledge about the topic. It is not that we hate you or something, but you give justification to experts on everything to fool around pretending that they are copper roofers. They do a lot of damage around and in the end hurt your customers. Take this thing down and ask a real copper roofer, a person that knows how to deal with thermal movement, wind loads, capillary suction condensation beneath the metal, making waterproof details w/o reverting to caulks or solder (among many other issues) to do such presentation properly.

These guys always have two feet on the ground and working on a small roof section. Show real field conditions and how really difficult this roof is to install when your 3 stories off the ground.

This guy mentioned in the part 1 video, that he is NOT a roofer. He is simply displaying the product and application. I'm glad he put this video up for us. It makes it easier for me to decide on buying a stand up seam roof or not.

As the presenter said, these are the basic methods of roofing with copper....you get far more intricate situations so don’t criticize this guy when you think you are so smart.

He’s definitely referring to a siding break.

you always put a screw at the top of the pannel after you slide it up and then a screw always goes at the bottom right above the drip edge and you really want to use a flat surface to cut and fold pannels. I can see your crimp marks on the bottoms of your pannels you want to use a rag in between your tongs just a tip not bustn your balls! and your seamers have two handles so you should really use both handles with both hands.

good lord!!he didnt tab the seam at bottom and didnt fold the top!and in all these videos on here they use that stupid z flash to fasten ridge or other areas.All you need to do is fold panel up and fasten ridge or whatever to the seam!!!very time consuming and costly this way !! and the gable trim some of you guys do is very slow and full of exposed screws! there is a school for architectual sheet metal in brittish columbia canada!!! please go there! PLEASE!!! Im not trying to insult some of you guys but you need to learn how to put metal together and with the right tools and direction!!! Not to mention the unsafe work practices like no fall protect!!! some of you employers are gonna get someone killed!!

Simple non-working roof. This kind of work, should be banned worldwide. In Norway this roof would last max 1 year. Simple work with no details. Probably good enough in the Favela in Rio :-D
