@@happyfeetdancingfingers This year was my third year climbing the same dreadful Benjamin Sheares Bridge for SCSM race. For 2019, it was a night marathon, so it did not count because there was no scorching sun. This time I brought some coffee powder mixed with sugar contained inside a small bottle. When I reached 38km water point, I poured some water in, shake the bottle to make cold coffee drink and then finished it off at one go. I needed this extra caffeine boost after the climb near 40km mark for sure. Then the rest was history. This was a cheap remedy because I knew I would be soaked in the rain from weather forecast reading earlier that morning before reaching the starting point around 3.40am. I got blisters on both of my feet this time but the last 3.2km well as planned. I also learnt after the race that by applying Vaseline to my toes and sole, I would have avoided this blisters issue easily. Will try it next time. The 10km run on the day before was perfect. Good weather and all went so smoothly, a big contrast to the next day full marathon. I enjoyed the 10km run very much.

@@RunUncleRun Haha, me too. I ran the 2019 half marathon and really love the festive atmosphere in the evening. The hot weather is the reason I am still hesitant to run a full marathon in Singapore. If they go back to evening race, I would love to do it.

I have been waiting for your video for this SCSM 2022. You make completing a full marathon race look like an easy long run without much struggling. In the end of it, just smiling and walked normal like just finish a daily routine workout! Congratulations! May I ask you one question: how to prevent blisters if one has to get wet with their shoes even before the 42km run get started like this SCSM? I got 7 blisters on both feet this time and they slowed me down a lot because of the pains they inflicted. Some burst near the turning point at 26km. Thanks.

  • @RunUncleRun

Benjamin Ting kah hin This time I just go with slow and easy pace since I still nursing my knee injury, that's why it looks so relax. As for the blisters issue, since I have been training to run in the rain for quite a lot, I think my feet already condition to adapt to run in wet shoes, so no blisters issue for me to run on wet shoes now.

@@RunUncleRun 42km is a very long distance to test out a runner's stamina and endurance to withstand fatigue and muscular pains, I observed your footsteps and posture for the whole video, you didn't show either fatigue or pains from your facial expressions or your narrative throughout. I salute you for your ability to run long distance and to complete them successfully. I watched your past videos when you recorded doing easy long run to get yourself ready before attempting any ultra-marathon event. It gives me hope and something to look forward to in running.

@@benjamintingkahhin1363 try running with those injinji socks (or try those a bit cheap ones coz injinji a bit expensive), separating each toes... i do still consider myself as a beginner as a runner... just up your weekly mileage from time to time.. i still remember by mileage yearly starting from ~600km, then 1400km... now its my possible 3rrd straight year of doing ~2000km... my goal is 200km per month, which i havent reach yet monthly (total 2400km), but i did achieve 2000km every year... 42km is hard for beginner. even a 21km if you are not running enough.. my friend once ran this SCSM and he ran over 8hours.. he was so shy to mention the SCSM marathon cut off time.. i told him, a finsiher is a finisher, no matter what time is.. my 1st 42km i ran 6:25 hour, considered as DNF in 2018 (5hour limit), no medals... 2019 i then ran 5:35 hour, did get my first marathon medal.. then theres the pandemic, and i was determined to improved my time.. doing virtual runs... this year i ran the same marathon event, the kaohsiung marathon and i ran 4:42 hour, going with the 4:30 pacer until 27~28km-ish... 1. ran with your pace, dont get over excited with those around you. 2. have a habit of givng time to ran in a day, maybe not everyday, but give some time to take a run. 3. from there, increase the mileage bit by bit. with all those mileage in me, i still dont do speed workouts.. also, this uncle teow inspires me to do ultra... hopefully by 2024.. i did unofficially ran 50km though 7:15hour, dedicating to my late father... planning to do 62km as a birthday gift for my mother.. goodluck to you..

Zulkhairee Sulaiman if you talking about trail running events, there are a few trail running events in Malaysia which is quite popular and they also have 25km-30km category, such as CULTRA (at Cameron Highland, Pahang), MMTF (at Taiping, Perak) and BUTM & TMBT (both at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah). You can checkout my KZread videos on these events to have a feel and looks on the terrain of these trails.

David Tanama if the race start time is after 5:30am when the public transport is available, you can take MRT to Promenade MRT Station. The race start venue is just about 2 minutes walking distance from there. As for the hotel, is depend on your budget. There are a few hotels within the walking distance to the race venue, such as The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Hotel, Pan Pacific Singapore, Parkroyal Collection Marina, Conrad Centennial Singapore, JW Marriot Hotel etc.
