in Jpn it's well known that Baba was recruited from pro baseball as the next big star in Pro Wrestling, while Inoki didn't quite have the magnitude. Inoki was beaten as the errand boy while Baba was treated as the future ace. Baba ends up with all the NWA connections, while Inoki didn't. If Baba was ruthless he could have squashed Inoki, but he never did only when Inoki made challenges. Inoki on the other hand is struggling to star in a promotion, he has no connections, so he's gonna do wilder riskier things, because if he doesn't he isn't gonna make it. He can't compete with Baba. However I do think that not only was Inoki the way he was because of circumstance, it was also his personality to be an extreme self-promoter that took many risks and went down paths that were unconventional. In a way he had no choice, it was do what he did or be the number 2 guy under Baba until however long it takes for you to get the torch passed on, if that ever happens because there were plenty of other hungry wolves.
