waiting longer than expected is a great tactic actually. As a veteran, I can say that most people can only maintain a high degree of preparedness or readiness for a short period of time. The best time to attack is either before or after this period of advanced readiness and weather and logistics didn't seem to allow an attack before the period. So, if they can manage ally and public expectations during the delay, waiting until Russia gets complacent and starts thinking it was a bluff can help catch them off guard. Even better, hitting in one spot with a modest attack and waiting for a couple days while Russia thinks 'oh, this is it,' then hitting with a bigger attack in a different target could further exploit the Russian mindset. Let's hope that is what's happening. Because regardless of how this is communicated, it IS a crucial moment in the war.

It will come down to whether or not Ukraine can break through Russian defenses at either Luhansk or Donetsk as these are the two regions Russia has had control over since the 2015 uprisings by Russian-backed separatists, which as a result have become the most heavily fortified. Any breakthroughs by Ukraine in these regions would spell doom for Russia, added to this Ukraine has started taking back land in Bakhmut and if Russia loses that land it is game over think of all the losses they took trying to take the city and now they lose it altogether, it would be catastrophic. I think so long as Ukraine makes a breakthrough in Luhansk or Donetsk and retakes Bakhmut their counter-offensive will lead to major ground retaken, and will pose a major crisis for Russia.

The more desperate Russia gets. The more firepower it will use. I see now Russia is starting to use more powerful cruise missiles. These wars often start without using huge missiles and bombs as it draws more global attention and likely intervention as more innocent civilians would be harmed. But the longer this goes on the more likely that those things start to happen. Therefore I agree with you

I don't think calling Ukrainian offensives "counter offensives" is realistic. A counter offensive occurs when you attack an enemy that is attacking you. If the front is largely static and you start an attack, its more of a regular offensive.

Danish viewer here. Denmark are also in talks with Ukraine about the training of pilots for F-16 fighter planes (as of the 21th of may). We are about adopt the newer F-35 Joint strike fighter as our main airforce plane. This will replace the ageing F-16s which dispite many modifications are starting to show their age. I cant say for sure, but along with the Lepoad 1 tanks that we have also agreed on giving Ukraine, it seems like a way of getting rid of older military hardware that is starting to be some what dated - along with helping Ukraine.

Ukrainian viewer here. F-16 most valuable as weapon carrier, such as rockets, bombs etc. choosing F-16 or nothing (we don’t producing fighter aircraft yet, and we got losses) the right option is obvious. F-16s don’t necessary need to directly fight russian aircraft, but help hold them back from our borders. I guess it’s hard to overestimate a value of a fighter with a vast amount of weapons, perfectly integrated with all reconnaissance and anti-aircraft systems, capable of the direct combat support… and many other advantages. Hell yeah, this jets will be a game changers, especially considering that russians already proved that their weapons is a soviet trash, and western weapons is highly capable. P.S. I want to say my best regards and endless gratitude to your country and it’s people for helping us to survive this war.

The delivery of F16 is likely a given... it's not a question of if, but when. I wouldn't be surprised if Ukrainian pilots are already training on F16 or other western jets (Tornado, Mirage 2000 or even Kfir).

Training is what takes the longest time, it's not like tanks where anyone can get the hang of it in two months or so, but its serious rigorous training even for seasons pilots. Ukranians are trained on soviet jets, so the transition to a western one will essentially be starting from zero. The reason they state 1.5 years is likely the training, not the actual delivery.

  • @sameggleton4124

You could be the best mig 29 pilot, train and convert to an f16 in '1.5 years' and turn out being a novice. Not realistic. Completely different platforms. I would be VERY surprised to see western jets in Ukraine. They're just so different in avionics and the way they are to be deployed. Plus they need safe air bases and a HUGE logistical trail. Also, the brits don't operate the f16 so how are they training them on it 🤔. Kfir could work I though however...

You’d be amazed at the number of high level politicians who are very poorly lacking in knowledge of history, be they from east or west (I’m from Singapore where the study of history is all but non-existent) Putin himself is one such politician. He DOES have skill in playing politics (he has a law degree and is a former KGB agent who served in Dresden), but he is absolutely horrible when it comes to history. Putin doesn’t even like the Soviet Union and idolises the Romanov Tsars instead. His number one idol is Tsar Alexander the Third (for some reason. Alex the Third was notorious for his Russification policies)

The problem is that it's hard to remain Unbiased and neutral when one side is so obviously in the wrong and their conduct is so laughably pathetic. By being "neutral and unbiased" you are unintentionally favouring the Russian side, the same way the BBC unintentionally favour climate change deniers by giving them a "neutral and unbiased" platform to be extremely wrong.
