I used to have one back in 96 when I was in college in the Philippines. Bought it brand new with Toyota 4K engine.

Lots of memories riding around in my family’s massive Jeepney in the Philippines. Fit all 22 cousins in the long twin benches with no seatbelts. No glass windows so all the sights and smells went inside. That thing had no suspension haha and riding it felt like riding in the bed of a truck.

We had one of these and it was an "in" thing back in the day that it was really shiny, i meant like chrome shiny category. You can spot this thing miles away and it was banned a year after since its reflecting sun rays here and there. We always bring with us 5 poncho raincoats for mom,dad and 3 brothers just in case it rains. It was eventually sold and this video feels nostalgic to me. Thanks man

This is actually what the ordinary people drive here. And the sample you have, you are really fortunate with that. Coz that is one really good example of an owner type jeep.. That would normally have steel rims, a 4K or 3K, or a 2C Toyota engine, pain in the ass seats.. Crap suspension and stuff..

Get your story straight. After WWII, the US left their jeeps and the Filipinos used them in a variety of ways. They transformed it into public transportation, utility vehicles and as a basic means of getting around. It was never a status symbol. Marcos and especially Imelda would never be caught dead riding in one. Stainless jeeps were used in transporting fish from fishing boats to the market. If I am not mistaken it evolved in the Malabon and Navotas area in Manila.. As you should know salt water will eat up your metal pretty fast. Jeeps have a staple transportation for decades with some backyard shops coming up with Wrangler bodies.They have hot rodded and raced. I've seen some low riders and resto jeeps .

also based of experience slightly lower than average families and old people have these jeeps my gran father used to own one and now every time i see one owened by an old dude i see it a some what a status symbol that there old but still i want one as a drift can in the soon future.

That's a one hot ride man. I used to drive one when i was in college back in the Philippines. And by the way its not the actual jeep that turns head, its the way you drive that sick ride. The jeep is just an addition to it. Either you will look like an idiot driving it or you will look bad ass in it. Small filipino dude worked hard on it forreals!! The jeep that i used to drive back in college was originally owned by my grand father and handed to my father and was given to me. And now to my nephew. Sick ride you got there buddy. Your lucky to have one in the US. Planning on having again.

"Owner" which a handmade jeep is called, has a distinct look depending from what part of the Philippine its from. I would guess this is a jeep from Laguna, PI due to the square headlights and the flare designs at the hood and trimmings. N yes, i am blown away with the metal craftsmanship they do in which they can take a sheet of metal and make it look like any molding they want.

That masterpiece is from our craftsmanship and culture. Most Owner-Type Jeeps in the Philippines uses the Toyota 3K engine from the corolla. From the way i see, that one is more high-tech and detailed.

we have tons of those still running here in the Philippines, we have dozens of variants and trim, say the Tikya Rebel of Nueva Ecija, Tamiya low riders from cavite and batangas, and those all- stainless steel bodied and chassis jeeps from Malabon. For the typical build it has leafspring suspensions front and rear and with the Tamiya variant it has front independent coilspring suspension. Typically, Toyota engines propels this mean machines, from the tiny K-series, to the performance side with a typical toyota Hemi T-series to the top end model having a 20 valve twin cam 4A-GE engines

I just completed a build of a CJ5 that has a lot of stainless. I'll start with the frame, the frame is 304 2x4 stainless tubing. The body is fiberglass, but next summer it will be painted with 316 stainless polyurethane paint. Still looking for a rag top.

It’s actually the other way around. It’s not for the rich. It’s actually the opposite. You definitely won’t see Imelda Marcos riding that. Definitely not to transport her shoes. It’s cool though. It’s a fun vehicle. Cheap to buy, cheap to drive, cheap to keep.

Listen up guys. Do not under estimate that owner type of jeep. It is built for long drive and it will serve for a very long time. And as you know it has been seldomly involved in any car crash or car accident. Why? You get the full view of your surrounding. Its nice to drive it around in the country side because you will be able to feel the wind blowing through.

Used willys jeep (Mcarthur/eisenhower types) became the early transport after the US GI's left. The jeep (we call it owner or oner here) was taken in by Filipinos like duck to water..The same design was continued and built by small individual shops and sold as cheap transport. It became very popular in the 80's till the early 2000's but gradually, the shops folded because the novelty wore off. Now, we seldom see any oner jeeps running now. What is left are the jeepneys (the elongated ones of the same design) that carry more people and used as the main mass transport all over the country. They put in used imported smoke belching Japanese diesel engines and sometimes pimped out complete with booming speakers.

If you think that jeep is weird, I have seen a stainless steel Toyota Land Cruiser . The thing that gives it away as hand built was the louvers on the hood. It was not stamped but hand formed. And please stop referring to the artisans that hand formed this jeep as poor bastards.

Casually, we call this thing a "Jeepy" in the Philippines. While the public transportation version is called a Jeep or jeepney. But yea jeepy for this thing. It was very popular in the 80s and 90s. If it rains you can put the covering at the back.

i envy your jeep man. it is never a replica of some sort, it stands out by itself. it is called the OWNER TYPE JEEP, a symbol of the Filipino ingenuity and craftsmanship. Install side mirrors for safe driving.

Yeah that’s the Filipino version of hotrod called Owner type Jeep...Owner because it was replicated from the iconic Jeep w/c Filipinos love and wowed for among vehicles...of course military...the a lot of manufacturers in the Philippines with that the very well known is Sarao, Morales, Lagunia, etc.

It’s an owner-type Suzuki. (Suzuki engine is made in Japan; the common thing, the Jeep engine is made by Chrysler Corporation in the USA.)

These Pure Stainless Willys Jeeps are basically a Philippine Sports Car. I own one myself. Maybe 10,000 🤔 on the road. Jeep CJ3A.

its called an OTJ here in the Philippines, otherwise known as Owner type jeep. its the chevy of the Philippines. made by and for Filipinos and they are cheap to maintain here and put up with the abuse these islands dish out to us, ex. typhoons, floods, heavy rain. it's made to also be the vehicle for the blue collar filipinos to deliver rice, fish, etc... believe me, if you were to actually live here in the Philippines, this jeep makes sense. you can park it and not worry about it getting stolen or vandalized. also cops and traffic enforcers think you're poor so they usually dont ticket you.

Leonardo Sarao repurposed the Willy's Jeep into the Jeepney or Dyipni after WWII for public transportation in Manila then it evolved into the Owner Dyip for personal transportation para japorms back in the day.

that thing now sells 500-1k usd in the Philippines, a lot cheaper than a brand new mountain bike.

Not made for the Marcos. They would caught dead if seen riding one in the Philippines. Its a model that came from the old WWII Willy's where the americans left behind in the Philippines after the war. It is the Common Filipino vehicles, a Poor Man's vehicle you might say...... we used it for drag racing in midnight in the free way back in the 90's. AND WE LOVE IT!!!!
