Welcome to the Letterman KZread Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. The language may strike you as quaint & flowery, the clothing comically lacey & ornate - but that’s how things were back in this colorful and now bygone era.

Same here, especially with the straight faces and kind of uncommitted delivery. And Kenny's cigarette gets me every time.

The Letterman Show was always on my late night viewing list. His show was unlike many other late shows in that you never knew what they were going to do next. Always funny , entertaining and provocative. Dave was a master at making conversation, he could talk to a fly on the wall for 30 minutes and everyone would watch. Back in the late 1970's I worked as one of the breakfast cooks at a place near you guys. I was told that staff members came in all the time from the Letterman Show. However, it was so extremely busy there. Thanks Jay and the rest of the staff, this was one of the best late night shows on television always fresh content that kept us glued to our seats except for the commercials of course. Thanks for this trip down memory lane...

I love how this is at least the second time John Goodman's condition that night has come up in a Staff Favorite Moments segment. I also had heard the story that Dave hadn't liked the hat he was wearing in the first version of the arrival shot in the day-of-the-life segment, but I never knew the hat in question was that Patagonia one, which I always liked when it showed up in pictures. That segment was one of my favorite Dave segments of all time, with the grapes and the box grater being highlights; I used to watch it all the time when it was uploaded on the old version of this channel, before it was taken down (I assume because of the music rights).

For some reason that grapes-throwing etc. video has been very helpful to watch for me too. It's very calming or something, besides being funny. I thought Dave's hat looked cool.

The bunnies going into the IRS office was hilarious. I remembered many of these skits. Paul McCartney was one of my favorite shows. They don't do talk shows like they used to.

Ha Ha Ha! The bad still frame AOL thing of Taco Bell works for me. Seeing that lady lose her sh** at Dave in freeze frame only is somehow more hilarious. Plus A Day in the Life of Dave was kind of life-affirming and zen.

I wonder where the “She’s gone already, Chief!” lady is today. Also - was that the origin of “Stop Calling Me Chief”? Or was everyone in NYC just calling each other ‘Chief’ in those days?

I Remember when he used to dash across the back of the stage before he actually walked out do his monologue, and I always thought that that actually was a stunt person or somebody else and not actually Dave sprinting across. I thought it was a gag, after all he would give Paul a hard time because he would have a tendency to run to his musical perch whenever Paul did some guest musical appearance on another show.

@@dongiller Hi Don, do you know how long the bit was where Dave was yelling out the window at the today show? And is it anywhere in your collection? Also curious about the laundromat remote. I'm sure you know why Dave ran across the stage before he did his monologue. I think I heard it at one time and have since forgotten.

I laughed so hard when they would dress people in costumes and send them into stores. The joke was to see how many before they got kicked out. Other times they would try to hail a taxi in costumes, I'd be on the floor laughing. I miss you Dave❤

The AOL site had chat groups and I met some cool people including the great donz5. I remember on the website you would have Top Ten lists that users could submit entries to. One was "Top Ten Worst Award Ceremonies" and I submitted Kennedy Compound Honors, which I thought was hilarious, but it didn't get picked.
