St. Vincent - Full Performance - Live on KCRW, 2010

Музыка

St. Vincent’s 2009 album “Actor” feels like the point when Annie Clark found her unique lane with her musical project. Lush arrangements, ripping guitar work, big choruses and thoughtful songwriting - things we’ve come to love and associate with the mega indie-pop star. Her appearance on KCRW in 2010 is a confident and bold performance that features highlights from the early part of her career.

8:21 Just the Same but Brand New
14:28 Actor Out of Work

This takes me back to the time I snuck into a sold out St. Vincent concert in Toronto, just after this album came out. She was playing Marry me as I waded through the crowd to the front and I was mesmerized until the very end. The instrumentation on this album has been my favourite by far, along with Marry Me, though I have enjoyed her more psych-freak-future era of music, but this was always the one I fell in love with. It's cool to see Daddy's Home bringing back the 70's vibes, but her shows will never be as good as when Actor came out and blew everyone away! Thanks for posting this, it's still awesome so many years later!

aftrimg I felt somewhat similarly the first few times I listened to Actor. In hindsight I realize how heartbreaking lyrics like “The letters stopped unceremoniously in June, So I changed my I’s and A’s to yours” I think with the added live orchestration and guitar ad libs in the breakdown it fills out the song nicely and fits it to the palette of the rest of the record more cohesively

She doesn't do that riff in the chorus of Save Me From What I Want on the album and I've been trying to find good footage of it for so long, from 7.10 where she layers the vocals along to that riff is just SO good, it's ALL so fucking good. I'll always cherish her 1st 2 albums the most.

I read an interview with Annie Clark about the time Actor was released and wanted to hear more. Thanks to KZread and KCRW, this was the first one I got to listen to. Still listening today. She was wearing no obvious makeup and a shredded sweater and the music was all that mattered. Have to agree with the person who posted that they miss this era. Just not as big a fan of the music made with Jack Antonoff.
