@ E J Darly ~ The 'thud' you hear on the video is the side mounted camera as it brushes against part of the parachute harness on landing. With my weight off the suspension lines at touch down the harness moves up pretty fast. As far as running out a landing - that all depends on the type of parachute wing being utilized. Different parachutes have differing flight characteristics. For that type demonstration jump, with the relatively tight landing area surrounded by spectators...it's prudent in the interest of safety to select a canopy designed specifically for accuracy - that's how they land. I'm at 39 years of experience in the sport of Skydiving - over 35 of those years, I've been performing professional parachute demonstrations worldwide. I think that was my 12th or 13th time through the St. Louis Arch - legs are intact, in fact I've never been injured Skydiving. Like most anything - proper attention to training and and the conservative approach toward execution of a thought out plan results in success. Hope you enjoyed the video & thanks for the comment!

God I wanna jump again so bad. I miss it more than ever. When I watch you guys pull out the flare, left and right turn, and just the first thing, jumping into the breeze knowing there's a small chance thing might not work out as planned. Last time I jumped was a Combat FTX Mass Attack with the 82nd in 1994. You just haven't lived unless you've done any kind of parachuting. It's not as hard to do as most think, and it's not as easy we think either. It's all fun and games until the medevac is called in for ya. Great work guys, fantastic choreography and teamwork. I know how hard it is to hit the T on the ground. Perfect maneuvering. Great pilot as well.

@@Aron-ru5zk Yes, I know the pilot that was flying the airplane he jumped out of. There were two other jumpers, I think. The guy that landed on the Arch, couldn't release his chute fast enough, and the wind took him toward the south leg of the Arch, where he slid the 630 feet to his death, with a streamer. (a collapsed parachute) Unfortunately, his wife was on the ground videotaping it, and didn't get the whole thing on camera, for obvious reasons, once "things went south". The pilot lost his license for a year.
