What a wonderful sermon. Thank you Father. St John the Baptist is a common presence in my spiritual life. I often come accross him, even without specifically looking for him. Amusingly, even in fiction!

“Women reverence your husbands”..how rarely we hear a priest utter this desperately unspoken truth. In a world that is so focused on women’s issues, wants, needs etc etc it is increasingly necessary that we hear what women must do if they want to keep their families happy, stable and intact. Honorimg, reverencing, your husband as the head of the house would fix a lot of the problems being faced in families.

"Husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church." How rarely we hear a priest utter this desperately unspoken truth. In a world this is so focused on men's issues, wants, needs etc etc it is increasingly necessary that we hear what men must do if they want to keep their families happy, stable and intact. Loving, caring for and providing for their wives as the "weaker vessel" would fix a lot of the problems being faced in families.

Yes, you could legitimately argue that more priests could also be speaking about “loving your wives”but in reality this is not major issue in society, nor the biggest threat. The bigger issue/threat is the fact that men and their unique role as husbands/leaders/head of the household has been facing the most unrelenting attacks by the secularist-feminist mainstream media for decades now. As Father points out in the sermon it is men, not women, that are the major object of attack and scorn and mockery in the media. The list of sitcoms, movies, advertisements where men are derided and belittled is endless, and the reason for this is that the devil calls the shots in the mainstream media and he knows he needs to tear men down before he can destroy the family altogether. That is why as a society and as Catholics in particular we must know that although there are challenges and attacks coming to all of us from it is nevertheless mistaken to think that women need as much attention, or defence, as men do at this critical moment. The devil has come for men with a vengeance that is on a whole other level to anything we have seen before.

foxx441: If you think that husbands not loving their wives as Christ loved the church is not a serious problem in today's society...then you are living under a rock. And if you think that the failures of the leader is less problematic than the failures of the follower...you do not understand anything.

Perhaps you didn't hear Father's suggestion to "fake it until you make it"? We cannot change our men by badgering them and complaining...so maybe change how we respond to them and take our sorrow and hurts to Jesus and Mary.

Kono Koo: Perhaps you did not notice that Father never suggested that men should "love their wives as Christ loved the church." Father placed all the responsibility for married couples getting along upon the wives' shoulders. That is not the Gospel. Preaching at women while ignoring and winking at the faults of men is accessory to their sins...which in modern parlance is called enabling.

Our fellow Christian brothers definitely would not agree to the Catholic Deposit of Faith that St.John the Baptist was JUSTIFIED before he was born "In the Womb"...basing from the Virgin Mary Visit to Elizabeth (2nd Joyful Mystery) & Church Fathers Teaching...it would mean another creature was SINLESS before birth & SINLESS during his life....another one teaching is St. Joseph Dignity as Foster Father...If our Church Father dignified the role of St. John the baptist.. Much more is St. Joseph whose role is to become foster Father whom Jesus as fully man must honor, respect & obey.. But in the Litany of the Saints hierarchy St. John the Baptist is first something to ponder.. Biblically St. John d baptist was mentioned first but St. Joseph consecration was prime being older although reveal later.. Something to reflect.. Godbless!
