I found this video that could be helpful: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hap_j9t7YZyrcZM.html It looks like the Dell Inspiron 15 3521 was usually shipped with an HDD, but that it will accept a Sata 2.5" SSD should you want to upgrade. I hope this helps, and thanks for passing by ;)

Will the adapters slow down the read/write speeds?

For storage use, yes the adapter you choose will affect your speed, depending on which one you buy. Therefore, if you intend using an NVMe drive as an external drive, a thunderbolt 3 enclosure should be your fastest choice... this will be more expensive than the other solutions, and you will need a thunderbolt 3 port on your computer in order to be able to benefit from the increased speed. For simply cloning your OS, just grub any decent adapter that has at least USB 3.1 and you should be good to go. I hope this helps, and thanks for passing by ;)

@@qseftgi instead of sata to sata? yeah the usb will slow it down
