    I agree, the Fusion is still a bit of an overlooked mouse. The funny thing is that it quickly became my absolute favourite, and I have eventually got rid of every other trackball mouse (at the moment). Is the Orbit Fusion perfect? No, it isn't! But, in my honest opinion, it may be the best TB we have so far. Obviously, it is all subjective, and the fact that I can take it always with me due to its small size plays a major role. Thanks so much for passing by ;)

    @@AleSuggests Thanks for the extra thoughts! I ended up going with the Expert, and the wireless version based on your comments in the videos; and it is really an awesome device! But being able to carry the trackball around like a mouse is definitely very interesting, but wasn't among my requirements for the time being. However, I shall absolutely consider the Orbit for my next trackball acquisition! Thanks as well for the reply, have a great day :D

    I've been an ergo mouse collector for quite some time now, and I can assure you that once you get used to it, you'd be surprised on how comfortable they truly are (it relieved my carpal tunnel issue). The Fusion is quite a dream come true to us ergo mouse users that is hoping to have a trackball in mind, and this might be the promised product that we are looking for :)

    My personal experience is that trackballs in general can relieve carpal tunnel (even the cheapo kensington orbit elite). The fusion is currently my main driver from some time now due to its size, but I must admit... if I was going to make a choice only considering comfort and pain ease nothing would beat the kensington expert! This is a fantastic review of these trackballs. Just what I needed to see. I tried a Logitech TrackMan marble. I like the trackball way of working, but was frustrated by the lack of a scroll wheel. I may go with the Fusion, because it’s more compact, and the button layout looks like it will suit me better.

    @@AleSuggests the Logitech TrackMan Marble has a couple of things going for it. I like the size of the trackball (40mm). The main left and right click buttons are large and well placed. It has two more secondary buttons (mapped by default to browser forward and back). It’s also half the price of the Fusion and about 25% cheaper than the Orbit with a scroll wheel. After using it for a while, I discovered that I wanted a scroll wheel more than the two extra buttons. Also, I use other conventional mice with adjustable DPI settings (Logitech G203 and Razer Turret). The higher DPI settings make a huge difference in moving around a 2560x1440 desktop. The trouble with entry level trackballs is that almost all of them were designed in an era when most desktops were smaller than 1080P...so higher DPI and adjustable DPI were not important then as they are now.

    @@OuijTube It looks like the Fusion hits many right points for you then ;) I must try those Logitechs soon as many people keep telling me that they're good. Btw if I was you I would not bother too much about the DPI settings as the Kensington' software has great features that handle large desktop situations pretty well already. I am talking about a feature called "acceleration" that changes how fast and far your mouse pointer goes according to how fast you move the ball. It works marvelously after you set it up properly and allows you to be precise or fast any time you like. Also another feature called "inertia scrolling" is amazing (basically same concept of acceleration but for the scroll wheel). Even an Orbit has those features, and that mouse is a very good place to start IMHO. Please mind though, the Fusion and the Expert are superior mice in terms of: ergonomics and button's quality (Orbit clicks may let you down at some point). To improve the ergonomics of the Orbit (for cheap) you can try this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eZmJzKmpY7e9m8o.html You can also check a video on my channel where I compare Orbit, Expert, Slimblade and Perixx trackballs all together if you haven't already ;) kzread.info/dash/bejne/iqiWxs9ykbizlJM.html Let us know how it goes in the end :)

    Thank you :) For your question... You can do a little test by yourself. Use a normal mouse, point it to the knob you are referring to and start using the scrolling wheel. If the parameter changes with any mouse wheel, then it will also change with any Kensington trackball that has a scrolling ring. This means that everything that you can change with a normal scrolling wheel it will feel so much better with a Kensington mouse, due to its rotary ergonomics, smoothness, and infinite scrolling settings in the Kensington application. I hope that make sense. Thanks very much for passing by, I will soon release music production content too, so maybe stay in touch? :) Take care

    Very thorough analysis, thanks! First time Kensington user here (I just got my Expert Wireless Trackball this week). So I'm not the only one tripping on the ball while trying to scorll lol! After watching your comparison I think I'm leaning more toward the Orbit Fusion, but it's a bit too late for that :P You mentioned you have 5 Kensington mice/trackballs already. How do you rationalize to yourself having so many mice? Do you use them all or do you just stick with one for a very long period? (And how come you haven't tried out yet the PERIMICE-720 from Perixx? haha! No, I get it, you prefer the trackball on the top rather than on the thumb. It's just that I hesitated between that Perixx and the Kensington.) I'm in the same boat as you I think, but with mechanical keyboards (4 IBM, 1 Unicomp, 2 Filco) and I'm thinking of getting the Durgod Fusion Steam to match the Kensington Expert :P PS: Your Spotify link doesn't work.

    Hey thank you so much for passing by :) I think you may have done the best choice with the Expert! It's hard to dislike, but it may take you some time to get used to it. If you spend a lot of time working at the computer, it will be like a blessing for your hand and wrist! Enjoy it! I currently own "only" 3 kensington mice actually: the Expert, the Fusion and the Orbit. I have lend the Orbit Elite to a friend, otherwise they're 4. I usually use just one, the other is a backup, the other one is, instead, the backup of the backup; and the forth one is just in case a friend is in need. And that's how I rationalise it lol I am still trying to figure out which mouse is the best between the Expert and the Fusion... so hopefully at some point I will get rid of one of the two. I am currently using the Fusion, but I feel like I haven't made a choice yet... in fact sometimes I miss the Expert. I had my keyboard period too... and even a folding keyboard period... I'm fine now :) That Durgod qwerty it's really unique btw! I don't think I have ever tried a thumb trackball mouse yet... I have a feeling that it would not be as fast as a center balled mouce... but as many people asked me to try it, I may have to try one out at some point. Thanks so much for the kind words and for spotting the broken links, they should work now ;) All the best Ale

    Trackballs take some getting used to. I clean my daily driver regularly... even every week if I notice some strange cursor behaviour. I usually remove the ball and use a dry cotton bud to remove any dust from the sensors/supports. Dust usually means mouse skipping for me. In cases in which the dirt build up is more than it should, I would use a cotton bud wet with rubbing alcohol, and I also wipe the ball with a cloth wet with rubbing alcohol, too. I have never tried an Elecom trackball, yet. I am fairly happy with Kensingtons, they have been around for ages now and their software really helps fine tuning the mouse acceleration and DPI (particularly the Fusion Orbit). They are not perfect mice by any means, though... the rubber grip underneath my Fusion is currently coming undone and there is no way to glue it back.... it's insanity! So maybe try to inspect your mouse first. Consider washing your hands more regularly and dust your desk if you notice a lot of build up... then if you are still unhappy, join the Kensington family ;) I hope this helps. Thanks so much for passing by ;)

I noticed the Orbit also gets stuck on some movements, but it is so much less noticeable and more usable. Thank you so much for the recommendation. I am sold to the Expert because of the solid and clicky stepped scroll ring. I can't stand those uber smooth infinity scroll "freewheels". Add in the odd tilt some mice trigger when scrolling fast. Kensington themselves made a trackball bastard called Slimblade Media which used a tiny trackball in place of the scrollwheel on top of a traditional mouse and it was terrible. Unfortunately these aren't good when in your lap or the couch. I had been using a Lenovo N5901 for ages instead but looking for a replacement.

  • @AleSuggests

    @AleSuggests

    3 жыл бұрын

    Unfortunately, I'm afraid that the Lenovo N5901 may be your only decent trackball choice for couch use. I personally use a air mouse when watching movies... which is ok... probably a lot faster than a trackball but less precise. It's pretty damn cheap too: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MTZQ6GW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_GM2W7DYKFY41XPNDQYGW I recommend the above with reserve, because it really depends from the user's usage. For movies I'd say it's perfect. The Expert is a great mouse, but the scroll ring won't be it's best feature I'm af afraid. Both the Expert and the Fusion suffer when it comes to their scroll ring. They're both "endless" scrolls... Just the Expert has a bit of a strange "clicky" friction. Thank you so much for passing by and I hope this helps ;)

    @@d97586058 Well, on PC it depends on the context: If you want to zoom in/out within the browser, you can press and hold "Control" and use the scroll wheel to zoom. The same goes for the PC Explorer Windows. Most software like Photoshop, Premiere, Cubase, etc have a similar approach, although sometimes you may need to press and hold "Alt" instead of "Control". When in Chrome's Google Map, acting on the wheel ring alone simply zooms in and out. If, instead, you would like to achieve something to the like of Apple's zoom (such as zooming in/out anywhere you are even on the desktop), that's a different story, and you may need some third party quirks for that (whatever I tried was somehow buggy). You know what? I had the Micosoft Explorer and I never liked it, but I wonder if I should buy it again as it has been some time since I tried it. I can see why the Fusion may resemble the Explorer, though. The Kensington Orbit Fusion is currently my main driver, but I'm not 100% satisfied with it... I guess is good enough? You could also take a look at the "Ploppy Classic", which has an almost identical Microsoft Explorer shape, but it's a bit pricey. I hope this helps, and thanks for passing by ;)

    @@AleSuggests I arrived at the Mic Ex years back and could never find anything that offered the comfort of hand position and the fine control positioning of the track ball. For me it was ergonomically perfect. I completely refurbished mine a few years back and sold it (they sell in good condition for crazy money) as I moved and built a new mastering studio. And the studio is setup where I am nowhere near my PC. So I absolutely have to use wireless (unfortunately this means the Ploopy is no good for me). I'm using the Logitech M570, and it's good..... for a thumb trackball... But thumb trackballs, for me, lack the speed and accuracy of being able to use your index and middle finger for the ball. And I feel thumb balls just move RSI over to your thumb as you tension your thumb in a strange way with them. I'm hoping the fusion is the solution. The expert has a great ball, but it's just a flat interface I don't find it stable enough for speed and accuracy along with button clicks.

    The Kensington is the worst track ball I've ever used. Very stiff.. and very poorly place buttons. Terrible for gaming.

    I don't game... But when it comes to studio applications (graphic design, music production, video editing) Kensingtons are pretty much the standard (even though I hate the "standard" word). Thank you so much for passing by ;)
