SSBM MLG Anaheim 2006 Ken (Marth) vs PC Chris (Falco)

Ойындар

One of the most important sets in Melee's history. Love this set to death.

17:15 “Really not sure what Ken was thinking. FD is traditionally a very strong Falco stage.” Oh how times have changed.

But from the other commentator: "He can still win this if he gets a good chain grab in"

Great commentators. *Marth counterpicks FD "IDK why he would go here. Not a good Marth stage"

At the time they dont kwow how to use aventage in FD at the time the stage considered to be the best for marth was actually yoshi story the Ken stage like they said sometimes

@@pistonsfan696 Exactly. Chain grab potential hadn't been realized yet. The meta in this game is still evolving 20 years later, it makes that so much had not been discovered when this was made.

@@darklord2626 Even with chain grabs the general consensus is that Fox and Falco win neutral on FD and still have really strong punishes

Even though the game was much closer you can really see how smart in neutral both players were.

its so crazy to really think like if you took some random slippi kid and put him in this tournament and probably the next 3 years worth of tournaments, he'd be unstoppable. Ledgedash, shield dropping, 2022 combo tree against/with marth and falco just murders everything in this video haha. have the commentators eat their words questioning why marth took falco to fd with a 4 stock

It's kinda wild thinking about how far Melee has gone since this moment, but I don't think a Random Slippi Kid would be super dominant in this era still. They probably would give Ken/PC Chris/Azen a good run for their money. But keep in mind that even 7 years after this moment, Ken was considered a Top 100 player even in more modern eras. Though that still doesn't diminish the fact that modern Melee is scary af.

Keep in mind too that this is pre-ucf, so a Slippi kid might get stuck in their movement, feel a little slow and unresponsive, definitely miss a ledgedash, get in their head about it, and players like Ken would capitalize. It would be closer than you think. Especially on the old stages.

@@wonnie You're underestimating the development and progression of Melee in 16-17 years. A random slippi kid who is at least masters, hell even diamond would be able to easily dispatch Ken, PC Chris, KoreanDJ just off of today's basic flow chart. I'd probably favorite a platinum player too assuming they aren't completely brain dead. The "modern" eras you speak of 2015-2016/2017ish were completely unrecognizable by 2018/2019 in terms of gameplay. And the jump from 2019 to 2023 in skill is bigger than that. The only player around this era who could probably take sets is 2007 Mew2King against a spacie who lets himself get thrown off the edge 4 times a game

@@cottonmather8146 Dude playing online and in-person is another level of competitive playing. Their chance go up if they had prior experience at locals or some major experience but they're a lot of outside factors that could mess a persons game up. Not saying that they can't win but saying they would win base on mechanics and technical skill doesn't always mean a for sure win, that's just the problem with comparing eras. But I do 100% agree that MLG 2006 melee is nothing compared to Modern Day Melee!

with combo strings yes. in neutral game no. the average slippi player is mindless in neutral while pc chris is really good at putting on the pressure and choosing his spots for instance.
