Technically Light broke the Shine curse first because Ult Top 8 was before Melee Top 8

A Fox main winning the last Shine while in the distance of everyone cheering him on, you hear a faint "Mission, Complete!" On the CRT... Absolutely poetic. (If I remember correctly, Light the Ultimate Fox main won that tournament too!)

Most of us are mango fans but it definitely doesn't take him winning for it to be hype. I loved 2023 melee

2023 was dramatic and cinematic. This game and it's best players just keep getting better, it's been amazing to be a part of what this game has become.

Leffen Cody was the set of the year. It's so ironic that, to me, he is the guy showing how weird and creative fox can be, just because his style is preserved in amber.

Leffen and Plup making cameo appearances and wrecking more active top players was pretty cool IMO. "Godslayers" still applies even when most of the 'Gods' have changed. Awesome.

2023 was my real start in the community. Even if I started watching and playing in 2022, I started going to locals in 2023 and I met so many new friends, very close friends through the game. I got to go to GOML, Shine and The Big House and those were life-changing events for me. Melee kept me sane during the worst year of my life and it was part of the best moments of my year despite all the shit that was going on in my personal life. To Anne, SarcasticPanda, Zedulo and Lala, Lunar Dusk, Squid, Cody, Salt, Zamu, Axe, lCaribou25, Dougie, Aleesper, Maher, Atheen, Jink, rend, Wibby, the entirety of Montréal Melee and to everyone else who made my year just a little more tolerable but who I can't remember off the top of my head, because there are surely many: Thank you. From the bottom of my heart.

I can't really articulate why I haven't been interested in watching this year, but just throwing my hat in the ring.

I mean it was pretty much worse than the last few years we’ve had, I barely watched this year. Hbox slumping so not a ton of good Puff, Wizzrobe and the other Falcons either slumping or not playing much. Then we lost SluG as our icies rep, and also it feels like the top Peaches are gone too. There’s only so much Fox / Marth / Sheik I can stand in a year tbh.

imo it was boring some good moments but compared to last year it isn't even close

I love how at 3:41 you can see Zain in an EERILY similar situation to G10 Summit 11 GF vs Mango. Up throw, DI to top plat, if he up airs it almost surely gets shielded->shield drop aerial. This time he quickly wavelanded and grabbed. Sure there's counter play their too, but just another rum up the ladder, and him showing how quickly he internalizes lessons learned. I know the tippy top are so good at knowing when to and when not to go in, but this was just a really poetic clip in that sense

We went from a 3 way #1 race in 2022 to a showdown for #1 in 2023. I'm glad #1 hasnt been clear cut since 2021.

@@lazarbro Heck Yeah! Even as I never had a GameCube growing up (PS2 kid myself), playing Melee the few times my friends would have it and all the content i’d watch of it online it seemed super fun. It feels like most games nowadays with online play and internet drama get so intense, people lose sight as to why they even started playing in the first place, kinda why i’ve been checked out of most modern games for a while. Truly is a breath of fresh air to have a “New” game I can enjoy the way it was meant to be. And i’d say my purchase paid off, friends who got me back into playing Smash were mostly better than me at Ult, they can’t even touch me in Melee 😎

being an oldie since the times of early mango/m2k etc, when you see Plup and Wizzy still competing them being top 5 to me is no surprise cause their fundamentals are just insane. i dont watch them stream so this could be total bullshit but to me it looks like they've let loose of the gass a little ( and understandibly) but if they could flip that little switch in their head again like in the old days; for a year to grind and train and attend as many tourneys as when they needed to face the 'GODS' we wouldv gotten the new 5 gods (zain-cody-mango-plup-wiz) and then came the 2 'Leffens' (amsa-jmook) -who could toppl the 5 gods. if this continues this era of melee could become better than the last 'golden era' naah mate F nintendo let me dream >.

I love these updates, but is it really fair to say every time a top 10, or a "god" of the game, loses to someone who isn't a "god" that they are just off their game? Isn't it more likely that the lower player who beat the top ten player might just be really good?

Walt has the most generic North American accent possible. What about his accent makes you think of New Hampshire? Only 1.3 million people even live in that state, which is like 0.4% of the US population, so that's pretty specific.

Personally i think Cody not being signed for as long as he has been without a sponsor shows how little faith people have in him as a person or personality. He can play the game , yeah, but people on the outside looking in dont really get behind him and most people on the inside have a hard time interacting with him
