The Adam monitors are surely the technicaly superior speaker amp combo, but this combo, while thinner, far less bassy, and much less hard focused, is the more pleasant listen to me overall. My Micca RB42s have less treble crispness and extension, but have deeper and more impactful bass, and a more lifesize and purer midrange to me. I feel the more solid cabinet of the Micca's account for some of it, and where I have the impression Emotiva may have cut too many corners. Still, it's a fairly musical speaker.

Great-sounding small speakers that sound much larger than their size. Accurate hitting bass, neutral mid-range and clear and distinct treble.

I own these and use them with a Cambridge CXA81 and an ELAC 10" powered sub. I think that amp helps the midrange of these speakers sound a bit more natural. Before I had the Sub, I was using JBL Stage 170 towers. I liked them as well, but have since moved the JBLs to the bedroom with an SMSL A300/D300 combo. I like both systems very much.

I prefer these to the Adams. More mids (not quite right though) and more open. Need a sub but good for $299.

These sound a lot better than they have in the past to me. I guess I'm starting to now understand why so many find them a good deal at $299, although I'm still not blown away by them. I'm rather ambivalent towards them, as I neither like nor dislike them much

Yeah I wouldn't say they sound bad here. $300 is a great deal for a decent set of speakers in my opinion. Not a bad speaker to pick up for "cheap"..and get a taste of a ribbon tweeter as well

@@NosEL34 It's actually an AMT, which isn't the same as a true ribbon. I just feel that there are better speakers for $300 that I like more than these

@@DougMen1 I see..at first glance I thought it was ribbon. I'm not familiar with the competition around this price point but will say it's pretty cool one can find decent gear for a manageable price these days.
