I just noticed birds and animals all over the place, and comming up to me ( Frances was in particular the saint of animals, as you know) And in the church where Frances of Assisi was burried, I had a vision of footprints. But then again I am just a desperate person clinging to some hope for meaning, and humanity. So what do I know.

17:14 There is no ABC on how to do self inquiry. It's like learning how to ride a bike. Each time you go a little bit further. In self inquiry there are good and not so good days. Ultimately you focus on who is aware of thoughts and emotions. Hold on to that. Watch it and see where it takes you.

I have enormous respect for David Godman and much gratitude for his explication of Bhagavan's teachings. His breadth of knowledge and scholarship in all matters having to do with Bhagavan are virtually unparalleled and he is a treasure trove of stories about Bhagavan, as well as a clear expositor of the teachings themselves. Someone with that amount of erudition could easily become self-inflated and arrogant, but my experience of David is quite the opposite--he is humble and unpretentious. Thank you again, David, for your insight, wisdom and encouragement.

Thankyou David Godman. I found the I subsided and I just woke up one morning as the Self. The I was the self not the person anymore. Sfter a couple of weeks this samadhi continuous left because i followed a vasana. But now I know how it came about. It worked for myself without really doing self enquiry or perhaps there was a little of self enquiry mixed in . BUT the crucial point repeatedly hearing I am the Brahman Self , I am that Shiva on a youtube video meditation was enough really. It killed the outward tendencies and as you said /bhagwan says the self pulled me in. Thankyou , thankyou it all makes sense now... I got confused listening to M James but you are more clear. My mistake was seeking validation from someone whom is not a guru. Now I know i don't need it. I am and everybody is that self. Bhagwans teacjings alone are enough. thankyou for this video henri...

The deluded ego thinks it is the doer. What Sir Godman is saying is that the Gunas can be sattva one day and mind calm and tamas next day and feels like day 1. Only way is to observe both and not get attached to any mood - however blissful or distasteful it is.

IMO Ramana was giving the supreme dharma for Tamil Brahmins who have spent many lifetimes in meditation, and who comprised 90% of his followers when he was alive. It is a path which is akin to a PhD for those sincere seekers who already have a Master's Degree in Self Enquiry, and have only to cover that final spur to Nirvilkalpa Samadhi. The problem is that most of us, including the gentle folk in this film, are like Kindergaarten sadhakas, trying to scale a vertical cliff without a secure guide rope; the guide rope being a system of techniques such a given in Raja or Kriya Yoga, which will more quickly get us to the point of asking that question to which the answer can only be AHAM BRAHMASMI.

It's ironic that a movie about discovery of the pure “I”, starts with the director's self-introduction “I am” this, “I am” that, the very false sense of “I" with its sense of individual identity that the movie focused on. Inquiry to I, is it not, but to "I AM" , translated is "BEING" also you must explaine it to your mind, so it can release the stucked energy and dualistic answer seeking, the mind is not an enemy. It wise to not go in discussion with thoughts but to agree with the thoughts it than stops. The name of God in the Bible is, I am, that, I am, and that of Jesus is I am liberation. All is being, seen and unseen outof one source, the happiness is to clearly understand that and the mind will become one with it or peace of mind. The mind seeks his master not in mind but in being, I AM - THAT--I AM or Being-Being and always is, where fear completely is gone.

When the bell was no more heard, the Buddha asked again: ‘Do you still hear it?’ They all replied that they did not. The Buddha then asked ânanda: ‘What do you mean by hearing and not hearing?’ ânanda and the others replied: ‘If the bell is rung, we call it hearing and when the sound and its echo stop, we call it not hearing.’ The Buddha again ordered Ràhula to ring the bell and asked ânanda: ‘Is there any sound?’ ânanda and the others replied that there was a sound of the bell. A little later when it could no longer be heard, the Buddha asked again: ‘Is there any sound?’ They all replied that there was none. Then Ràhula rang the bell again and the Buddha asked: ‘Is there any sound?’ They all replied in the affirmative. The Buddha then asked ânanda: ‘What do you mean by sound and no sound?’ ânanda and the others replied that if the bell was rung, there was sound and when both the sound and its echo stopped, this was called no sound. The Buddha said: ‘Why did you talk so wildly?’ ânanda and the others asked: ‘Why do you say that we talked wildly?’ The Buddha said: ‘When I asked you about hearing, you spoke of hearing and when I asked you about the sound, you spoke of it. So merely about hearing and sound, your answers were ambiguous; how could they not be called wild? Why Buddha called Ananda answer wild?

If you "Do" self-inquiry, you will do until your death. In doing there is a doer, that is, MOTIVE. Do you SEE how thought has tricked you all? I have heard David Godman say in one of the videos that once a man asked Bagawan,"I have done self-inquiry for last 25 years and I have not attained anything, and Bagawan seemed to have replied, in that case, do it for another 25 years". The only fact Bagawan is trying to help you SEE is the fact that "I" is just a thought, it is NOT independent of THOUGHT. When thought is not there, is there a thinker? Thinker and Thought are one and the same. For example, a computer that you use or a mobile phone exists whether you think about it or not, but the "I" is there when there is no thought? "I" exists as long as thought exists. The final answer is "I" is just a THOUGHT. It's not a reality. Just grasp this TRUTH and be extremely alert. The day will come automatically but you may not know when and where. Alertness! Alertness! Alertness! That's all you can do.

I don't know sir whether I'm doing it right or wrong. When I focus on the observer (the self), the breath is disturbing to me. Because when I inhale or exhale my attention is just going towards my breath, meaning that I'm observing the breath. I don't know how to stop observing the breath and put full attention on self. Anybody please help me with the process.

Self inquiry by the ancient wise men. You are not the body and mind, you are Eternal Spirit trapped in the body and mind, you were Eternal Spirit, you are now Eternal Spirit and always will be you have forgotten over many incarnations, you have become identified with the physical body and mind, the Fallen Angel and Original Sin or Original mistake metaphors. Meditation - Observation- Separation is the ancient practice of putting the body and mind to sleep but staying AWAKE and ALERT inside and separate from the body and mind until you remember and EXPERIENCE yourself as Eternal Spirit. If you remain in your original and natural State after Meditation it is known as Self Realization by Yogananda,The Tao Cosmic Consciousness,Leaving the body ( going inside) but not dying by Socrates Ramana Maharishi and Krishnamurti, Nirvana, Heaven within Luke 17 21, Awake as Eternal Spirit again-Buddha, Moksha, Obtaining the Golden Fleece in Greek mythology, Virtue by Socrates and the Stoic Saints, Garden of Eden, Prodigal Son, Etc all the same .this is the Self Inquiry as by Ramana Maharishi and others throughout the history and Evolution of the world..... There was never a time when I did not exist nor you, nor will there be any future when we shall see to be . Sri Krishna ,The Bhagavad Gita ❤️

I am intrinsically happy as I am so why should I bother with this? If all is Brahman then so is the mind, so is maya, so is the ego. If a truth is not self evident I become suspicious, it sounds to me like self hypnosis. Incidentally I can halt all thought without any effort, absolute silence but I don't get anything out of doing it, it makes me fall asleep.

@@GeertMeertens Of course. I can't see how one can explore consciousness with the mind (the only tool at our disposal) when it is said that the mind can't know consciousness. All that one can say of it is that 'consciousness is'. How can one be enlightened when the true self is consciousness already? The body mind complex appears in consciousness so is of consciousness itself, the 'awake dream' in which we find ourselves is our reality, you can't expect an illusion to know it isn't real except by a leap of faith which puts it in the realm of religions. I have listened (with admiration) to Swami Sarvapriyananda's teachings on the logic of the Rishi's, of meditation practices, etc. but it is all done with 'mind'. He himself used the conclusion of an ancient famous yogi that there is no enlightened person because you are Brahman and Brahman can't be enlightened or not enlightened, Brahman is existence. In my opinion there is nothing to understand, I exist, I am, it is that simple.
