SRAM "Transmission" | Explained & Reviewed

Спорт

SRAM's Eagle AXS drivetrains debuted wireless shifting in 2019. And for 2023, the new SRAM Eagle AXS Transmissions take things two steps further by removing the derailleur hanger and adjustment screws! Plus, it's designed to shift better the harder you pedal, which is just plain crazy.
In this video, Mike and Tor explain tons of new tech with SRAM's new T-Type components, show you a quick install guide, compare them to original Eagle AXS drivetrains, and then review them.

    The transmission will turn into a smartphone in the future, it will constantly annoy with its updates, now it is not, but in the future it will be exactly like that. The mechanics are excellent, electro poop.

    with the shifting being dictated by software to match the chain with the narrow wide teeth on the cassette will there ever be a cable version? I like the new mechanical innovation but I don't think I'll ever put a battery needing component on my bike. I don't want to have an afternoon free to ride and find that I can't go because I forgot to charge my shifter battery. I want the reliability of cables.

    According to several product listings X0 should have the Magic Wheel as well. It's nice of course, but rarely a stick or something else gets caught inside that wheel and Magic Wheel imo has no effect on a stick getting caught between chain and wheel.

    Wondering, whether you expect that 3rd parties will be producing compatible chainrings in oval shape. Because if they would, then do you think those newly compatible could possibly be compatible with older X01/XX1 cranks ?

    I really hope they do! When we talk about the "cons" in the review section of this video, I mention that I really want an oval option. I'd say let's wait about 60 days until expecting any 3rd party chainrings compatible with T-Type chains and various forms of crank mount interfaces. -Mike

    Wolftooth has them now. Just ordered one for my x01 eagle carbon cranks. Going gx transmission, xo cassette, wolf tooth chainring, and gx T-type chain. I’ll upgrade the chain to shave weight once more colors come out.

    Does this mean that the whole force will go into the carbon frame? Because earlier, you had hanger due to not to bend, destroy rear mech and/or frame - what about now? Will it just pass the force directly to the frame, I guess?

  • @SEZ66

    @SEZ66

    Looking at how it is designed, it looks like the force will be shared between the frame, hub, and axle which is exactly what happens when you get an impact to your wheel.

    Yeah in this video they claim the reason for hangers was to protect the derailleur but really it was to make sure your bike wasn't a write off every time you crashed. To me hangers are even more important on fragile carbon frames that love to crack. I suspect sram figures anyone who can afford this drivetrain can afford a new frame whenever it breaks. I would be worried about this becoming the standard in the future

    Is it possible bike companies will start releasing chain stays with udh mounts for current model bikes that are not udh?

  • @Magic_crew

    @Magic_crew

    I see this as very unlikely since most company’s would like to sell you a bike. Re tooling a old frame mold or jig would be expensive and most likely not profitable for them

    The T-Type stuff will NOT work on any frame that is not UDH, because the frame itself MUST be the exact spec and tolerances as the UDH design for the derailleur to mount on it. -Mike

    Ebike groupsets need to be re-engineered for longevity over weight IMO. I can destroy a 12 speed SRAM cassette and chain with about 30% of the distance covered on a standard bike. I've actually swapped to the Shimano SLX 10-45 cassette as it's always the 50T that snaps teeth. Hoping smaller 45T won't have as much chain stress with the smaller diameter.

    The system seems impressive, for the price it should be, although the weakest point in the system will always break first. Before the weakest point was the derailleur hanger that cost change to replace. Now to me it seems like the weakest point of the system would be the pulleys cage, I wonder if the cost of the cage is lower/same/higher than the trusty hanger... Probably higher...it's the how to pull money from a product that's already been sold...time will tell✌
