    Rotate the handlebar down until the hoods are horizontal when you tilt the bike to bleed the rear caliper.

    On comment I saw about the Hope calipers is that the pistons are a bit more brittle than Shimano pistons. Not big deal when riding, but people who use a screw driver to push their Shimano pistons back when getting new pads are said to have cracked their pistons when trying the same thing with the Hope caliper. Don't know how Sram pistons compare here.

    There is less pad clearance on the RX4 compared to Shimano and SRAM, I had difficulty setting them up, getting equal piston travel, centering and still have a slight running contact on the front disc (in context setting up a twin caliper, twin hose double banjo brake on a motorbike was about the same level of difficulty). Four pistons may be useful for gravel riders but really a two piston would have enough performance for road bikes - Hope already do the X2 for MTB with 22mm pistons (Shimano use 22mm on many of theirs) so I'd like to see them transfer this arrangement to a flat mount road option. I'd guess it would garner a lot of interest as it's similar to existing road calipers and likely easier to set up - road riders have zero allowance for pad rub and like things that are easy to set up - seems like a no-brainer to me. For my winter/general use bike if I'd known I was going to have so many issues with the RX4 I'd have fitted post mount adapters and a pair of X2 calipers instead; these would have worked fine as the piston ratios would be the same as the leaking Shimano calipers I had to replace. Update - having posted I actually then found Hope do make a flat mount X2 - I'm an idiot!

    Ronald thanks for the update. I never knew something like this existed. I went ahead with the purchase for a Shimano Ultegra di2 system and it turned out quite well. The issue with Shimano is that disc brakes are a bit more temperature sensible and that is mostly because of the mineral oil that they are using (after a wet ride there is a possibility that water enters the system and that remains at the lowest point ie. close to the brake pad) SRAM does a better job with the DOT5.1 liquid. I agree is no point in upgrading a SRAM system unless you really break more than necessary. My experience so far with Shimano is: 1) compared to a Shimano system they run a lot cooler 2) coupled with the Galfer brake pads you have a range of situations covered (wet, competition - no need to run in, gravel - muddy) 3) the rubbing after a long descent is shorter almost unnoticeable - mostly due to the lower temperature and better piston design Really happy with my purchase and have to say they look way cooler than a Shimano system.

    At the start of the video, I got my Hope up, no pun intend when you said greater clearance. My front sram force axs from the outset has been rubbing a little. While the pads have worn out and reduced that rub, it would have been nice to see these rx4 do that trick..... Back to the drawing board

    Did you have to fit any adapters/mounts with the RX4+? I'm looking to fit some to my gravel bike and even Hope admitted their fitment chart can be confusing. In the rear I have two options, RX4+ flat mount with a mounting bracket or the RX4+ +20 that you used without a mount. Another good video, although I won't be looking forward to bleeding rear brake!

    Hey, I'm about to install rx4 calipers on 11 speed etap group. What hose did you use? The etap hrd uses a specific banjo to connect to the calipers. To install the hope caliper you would have to cut off the banjo from the end of the sram hose. But the sram hoses are expensive and I'd rather keep the banjo on so I can re-use them on another bike. Did you just buy another set of etap hrd hoses and cut the banjo off? or use a length of 'standard' hose?

    I actually swapped my bikes to the hope rotors and calipers a while before they had the road dedicated ones. What I found was they had way more bite, and more modulation, but since they're floating rotors they do rub a bit more when getting out of the saddle. Might be interesting to try standard rotors with their calipers.

    I have 2 bikes with Shimano groupsets, R9170 and R8070, and the one thing I never complained about is the brakes; mineral oil, easy to bleed, pad clearance is more than enough and the rotors are good. The only reason why Shimano isn't perfect these days is that it's not wireless like Sram's Etap. As for these 4 pistons calipers, I hope this client of yours will have plenty of braking power.

  • @TheAntoine191

    @TheAntoine191

    4 жыл бұрын

    I'm not sure that wireless thing is a true upgrade. Di2 routing is easy because cables can take tight bend and fit in small holes. It takes a bit more time to build but then you forget it whereas on a wireless system you have the multiple batteries to maintain/change. On top of that sram really messed up by insisting with those dumb 10 tooths cogs. Great for MTB not so much for road where efficiency in a big gear matters. Think about it wireless makes sense when distance are varying randomly, on a fixed setup like a car plane bike whatever where a cable is set and forget what is the upside of wireless ?

    @@TheAntoine191 agreed - wired is more reliable communication, but wireless could potentially save weight (not really true atm) and simplify things a lot. If you had a dedicated frameset for wireless, you could skip the holes and channels for cable routing. Personally I'b biased towards Di2 as well.
