SRA Etelä-Häme Hätilä 2022: Mike, Jari and Les's first 4 stages

Mike and Les (Polaris Worldwide Logistics) joined Jari (Varusteleka) in Finland in July to shoot the awesome SRA Etelä-Häme Hätila 2022 2-gun match. All three were using KE Arms / Brownells WWSD 2020 rifles in .223 Rem / 5.56, and various pistols (Staccato, Glock 17). How did they get on?

Did Mike and Les have to fill "foreigner on a military area" paperwork to participate in the match?

You should have dragged a washing machine across the road (Russians seem to stop to collect them ) !😁 Just thought that they could also pull a target at tree top height to simulate shooting at drones .seems popular at the moment....

We have previously set up "stuck paratroopers" (silhouettes with clay pigeons) in trees and shot them with shotguns (due to range rules about bullets going over berms). Could do a similar thing with "drones", just need to figure out a faster way to reset them.

@@aqualung.the you could dangle a clay pigeon on a string below an actual drone.

The 'rocket' prop was cool! I'm with Les; milk the stages for training value. Has the idea of issuing shooters 'standard' rifles and pistols to simulate wartime loadouts ever been considered?

There isn't an armory from which to issue "standard" guns from. FDF is courteous enough to let us use their range, but guns would be a stretch too far. Also, we wouldn't want such an arrangement anyway, since SRA (and other action shooting disciplines) are the best justification to get permits to buy semiautos with unlimited magazines in this country. If we could borrow military guns, some politician would soon start thinking about limiting private gun ownership. The intended effect of your suggestion is closest emulated by running in TST (combat loadout) + 7.62 class (everybody needs an AK!) + Standard (irons sights), while still using your own guns you've trained with.

@@aqualung. Good points! I figured that actual military stocks would not be available, but it would be an interesting 'reality' aspect for shooters to work with the same 'stock' firearms, at least occasionally. Customizing guns for optimum performance is a problem with all the shooting sports, as 'The Game' starts to overshadow 'The Training'. Still, as you point out so well, it's all shooting, which is the ultimate purpose!

@@petesheppard1709 We've got the "train with issue guns" part covered with reservists refresher training, where we train for and practice our actual wartime roles 😀 There's also National Defence Training Association, which hosts courses where reservists get to train current tasks, expand their skill base or in some cases even retrain to an entirely different branch (an artilleryman can train to become a reservist sniper, for example). Their courses can use FDF guns and equipment, but some have participants bring their own guns and gear. Even with these bases covered, I agree that excessive "gamering" is detrimental to shooting sports. Fortunaly there's less of that in SRA, with the rules ruling out some field-impractical gear like race holsters, and good stage designs prioritize fundamental marksmanship over overly optimized race guns.

Very cool love that range. I would like a few details on that rocket simulation. I know is silly but I did wince at the RO directly behind the bazooka stage 4🙃

1600$ as Import? The last I remember via Brownell's EU was 2500€, now probably more. Does Les import them himself on request? Jari is extra hard on himself.

Yeah. A full rifle in US is $1500 lower is $700 its a bit ridiculous people complain about firearms prices but won't do anything about the taxes that make them more expensive...
