There are clearly features of respiratory distress.

This baby isn't getting enough oxygen in their tiny lungs, you can tell by the dark lips, I have one right now and her lips are not dark grey like this babies is, I'm so sorry you lost this baby........

We took it to someone who rehabs injured animals, particularly squirrels. Sadly though, it died only 15 minutes after we arrived.

Squirrels are prone to metabolic bone disease/disorder. Especially at such a young age. They need calcium for strong healthy growing bones and at least an hour a day in sunlight to help process the calcium and phosphorus they intake. You have to be careful. They'll eat anything you give them but most of it isn't good for them. Seizures and paralysis are the first major stages.

We took it to a local animal rehab, but sadly it didn't make it. I can't afford a vet bill for every animal I come across. We did what we could though.

Spinal damage. Can’t be released back into the wild, but you can probably keep it as a pet. If any government official or any dedicated asshole finds out about it you’ll have to kill it though, sadly, as I’m fairly certain you need a permit to own them. Additionally, if you think a life half-paralyzed isn’t a life worth living, or you’re unfit to give it a decent life, you can put it out of its misery now, preferably via crushing it’s head. It’s unpleasant, it’s messy, and it’s sad, but if it’s the best thing you think you can do for it, you won’t have to live the rest of your life knowing you’re morally bankrupt and a bad person, and the squirrel would thank you for your mercy of sparing it said bad life, and prematurely ending its suffering, if it could. Alternatively, you could follow the advice of the person above me and take it to someone, but there’s no guarantee they’d be willing to take in a squirrel that can’t be rehabilitated into the wild. That, and if you try to take it back after that and care for it yourself, they’ll likely inform authorities, which is why I don’t consider it a viable option. I don’t say any of this lightly. I love squirrels- They’re cute, intelligent, and very rarely problematic, and from what I’ve seen they’re quite gentle and even playful. I’m glad they exist, and it hurts my soul to see one dead, but the idea of one actively suffering might make me feel even worse. I think the best thing to do is just take my advice and do whatever you think is right, not for you, of course, but for the squirrel. Alternatively, it’s possible the squirrel might have sustained damage that will soon kill it regardless of what you do. If that happens, please don’t feel bad. You did your best, and the fact that you saved it from the violent end of being ripped apart by a dog probably speaks wonders about what a good kind of person you are. In conclusion, I wish both you and this little lucky/unlucky fuzzball the best!

Unless it’s already dead, I mean. It’s already been three and a half days, which should be enough time for it to die if its injuries were fatal. Due to the gradual opening and closing of its mouth I can’t help but wonder if has lung damage and/or can’t take in enough oxygen, or is struggling to do so.

@@carnage0685 I sure appreciate it. I grew up on a small farm and have always hunted, strictly for food, but I understand the circle of life. That said though, I hate to see any animal or person suffer like that.

Shame it wasn't able to make it, but you did what you could given the situation at hand. Pretty sure not everyone has an encyclopedia of every animal rescue in their area as well as the phone number burned into their minds. Don't let the people being rough on you about it get you down. You did your best, and sometimes animals just don't make it.

She died shortly after this video. I was hoping a local animal rehab could help, but unfortunately not. I grew up on a small farm and am an avid hunter, but always hate to see an animal like this.

I took this squirrel to a person that rehabilitates injured animals. As I was recoding this my wife was inside trying to find someone local that could help. Thankfully most folks here have been really helpful and kind. People like you, however, are kind of buttholes. Be kinder and don’t jump to conclusions.

You should have taken the animal to a wildlife center and or a veterinarian this is a very bad sign out of the squirrel like that you have to get medical treatment for this little animal otherwise it'll die obviously you don't know anything about reading animals like I do when it comes to being in pain because that's a big warning right there is what she was trying to tell you that she needed to get looked at by a professional and you are not one of those professionals‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
